    Awesome Video, If you could kindly reply, 1. when creating a new doc set, can I create a children doc list to inherit properties of the doc set instead of a word doc as demonstrated? 2. What is the best way to auto-updating a file for a doc to use lookup on?

    Is there a way to open a linked Excel file directly in Excel and not save it first in Chrome?

      @@SharePointMaven Okay thank you. Because in IE it works. But in Edge and Chrome unfortunately not. Had hope that it would work in Chrome and Edge then.

      Don't know what you mean by DispForm. When you click on the link, it does display the document itself

    Can you link to documents within the same library? Also, what happens to the link when the linked file moves?

      Yes, you can kink docs and if they move - you will need to update the URL manually

    Based on your example of the PDF file, is it possible that people who don't access to that file can request access directly over SharePoint? Something like "Request access to owner"?

      No, not possible. You can only request access to a site, not a file.

    If you update the document that you've created a link for it - do you have to re-establish the link, or will it automatically update?

      No, not possible. The team will always use a library from the associated team site

    Is there a way to synch libraries ? I.e a new policy appears oln policy site and maybe sales people wont realize but if the libraries are synched they will know... thanks !

    Is it also possible to link editable files like word or excel? So it is possible to make a change in one file in one of the two libraries and it automitically updates the file in the other library?

      Correct, this is exactly what this does and exactly what I demonstrated in the video. The link is just pointing to the other file, so as soon as it updates, the link just points to the revised file

      @@MrLihogames It is a one way edit. There are no 2 files here at all. You have 1 file in 1 library and the link to that file from another library. It is just the one file.

    Hello. let's say I have two Word documents, "DocA" and "DocB". I am looking for a way of referencing "DocB" (and also specific sections of it) from within "DocA". I know this is possible in the desktop version of Microsoft Word, but can I achieve it while using Sharepoint? Thanks.

      Yes, you can. You can insert link in both desktop version of Word and Word Online

    When a document library is added as a web part to a page, then some/ most of the links do not open. But still on All Items Page in the list itself they open. Is it a known problem? Thank you

    If we use share the link option on the linked item and open that Link the it opens in a Preview if we have a word document as the url. Can that be changed or is it a bug?

      It is not a bug. It is by design - links always open in the browser and not a native app

    Hi! I have been working on creating these linked files in my Sharepoint site and the links work great until I go to share the linked file. When I share it opens up a small static version of the file. Any advise on what could be causing this issue? Thank you in advance!!

    Hi, very useful, thank you. Is there a way to sync/link a local drive folder to SharePoint site? I tried to sync local to onedrive and then add as url, it did work. Yet would like to know is there any direct way to sync local>Sharepoint (bypass onedrive) or any better way.

    Is there any way I can create the link as show, but when a user opens the link to the file, they get an editable word or xls document?

      It is editable already. Depends on the permissions they have

      @@SharePointMaven I got it sorted. If I link to the template.docx instead of the master word.doc The user will open up a new, editable, document (word.doc) which will not impact the original. The new document has no file name or path and can be saved to a specific location of their choice.

    Hello, thank you for your video.
    My problem is when a send an email with power automate, I want to return the name of parent folder which contains the file...For exemple I have folder /F inside of this folder a have files with pdf format A, B, C.... and when I send the mail I add "path" and he return me F/A.pdf , but I want he return me juste the link to open the folder F and not the path to the file

    How do you easy related document to each other. E.g. Assembly drawing and 1,2,3.... detail drawings or Drawing and its related Comment Sheet

      @@SharePointMaven i am working on large project where we only use metadata, no folders and previous we use the document set , but that ended up with so much confusion and so much clicking up and down in folders and binders. I had one suggestion with a metadata field (text field) could be called related items or keywords, where you then could write what ever code, word or number to cluster documents

    Thanks, but as soon as the original document is moved, like when you create a subfolder and put it in there, the link would stop working, right? Is there any way to actually have a singe document saved in several sharepoint folders? Like a document that several teams should be able to access, read and edit but which I do not want to create a separate sharepoint site for?

      If you are moving a document within the same library - the link will still work.

I would like the document to be saved in both folders A and B but still be one document, editable from both folders.

    Can you link just one "tab" within a excel spreadsheet to another excel sheet inside of sharepoint. I need to pull only information for individual reps. I do not want them to see everyone else information... only there own.. can this be done?

      Not aware of a way to do this. I know you can embed a specific tab into a SP Page, but not aware of how to link to a specific tab in Excel. Doubt it is possible

I didn't want to post a "main" sheet (PI reasons), thought there should be a way to pull data by tab for each rep. sharepoint... really isn't good at "sharing" lol lol.... I can do this in a normal excel, it just will not transfer to sharepoint

      Copy is the new feature within the modern SharePoint doc library. "Send To" had different purpose in classic library, so I would not call it a replacement
