thanks to comment how i feel. However, i miss the old colours, no the map, the new one is so much better, but the colours were better. Before was more colorful, with a night and the rift luminated by torches. It was more like fairy tale's color, more magical. The new one is much more colder, and kinda real than the old one, i miss that.

Works fine, dose not affect drake at all.
but you notice that the old map dose not have those "gates" between inhibitor turrets

WinnyJ1 Pathing would still take you through them so that doesn't matter. But I mean, before the dragon spawns you can see which type it is, can you see that on the old map, or is there some sort of texture error because of it?

Old Map looked like a Crash Bandicoot Kind of Map
Looks like you dont recognize where this is from. You can see alot of resembelence to Warcraft 3. The very first aram and 3v3 maps were almost copy pasta textures from WC3

To be honest the old map is more detailed and the newer one is more flat but modern when it comes to visual effects
New one looks prettier, but the old one had more character.
More character aka: random jungle with random animals. Not really.
+Wiccan I mean, there was more colours, and there was more detail like huts around the place, signs in the jungle and in front of the dragon and baron pits, torches around the place, campfires in the actual camps making them look like, well you know, CAMPS. To add on to my colours argument, the new map only uses bright green and gray with small areas of blue. I'm not saying the new one doesn't have character, I'm saying that the old one had more.
I have to disagree with you on that one. The new one has much more detail and colour. Each quadrant of the jungle is stylistically different. The side closer to Baron is purple and scarred from the Void. The blue side has rain. The river splashes, there are bugs and creatures. There's scenery in the far distant. The architecture of the structures is more refined. Also, if you look around the new map you'll find many easter eggs.
Rajon Rondo Uhm, last I checked, the top jungle was bright green without void tainting...

It was more cosy and homely looking before. I miss it! but obviously nothing can stay the same forever.
I feel like the old map had more character. I wish they used the same style as the new map to update the old map to current par. Ah well.
I definitely prefer the crisp, high-contrast color scheme of old Summoner's Rift. The new one is full of gray tones and has a fuzzy/blurry feel to it.
However, the updated 3d models and animations of the new rift are unquestionably better.

If you have a Nvidia graphic card you can have higher contrast if you want to.
New rift really does look like they went for a washed out watercolor color theme. Feels like playing League on a barren rocky plateau in combination with the 3D map design.
Manixxzz it actually was made for exactly that, they didn’t want the map to stand out too much not letting you see incoming spells.
Still missing the old one...
This video is very well done. Does anyone else somewhat associate the new map with toxicity and the lessening of fun in League? I started in Season 2, which I would think of like old times. When I think old times, I think of this map. When I think of recent times, I think of myself playing League less and less, and how much the community has become so hostile.

Maybe, it's not all nostalgia.
The old map does seem more "inviting", while the new has a keen sense of coolness to it.
As if the high detail characters are detached, separate from their environment.
I'm no psychologist, but I see a connection there.

Earlier, when the old rift was there, everyone said "SICK GRAPHICS!" and now its like you gotta vomit.
This video made me realize something. The new map ripped away a big chunk of the lore. The old map had emphasis in the Nexus and Inhibitors of the five people controlling the characters. Players now see themselves AS the characters and not controlling the characters. This is not a problem but perhaps it is just some kind of nostalgia factor. Along the same line, I do miss the Wraiths and double Gollems.
Didn't they remove Summoners/Institute of War from the lore though? So it makes sense, I guess.
They removed the summoners thematic due to the fact that is was absurd to have champions so powerfull lorewise being contained by some magicians to fight in the arena instead of wars (like Xerath, Nasus, a God, the Death themselves, etcetera). The new rift does have a lore (mostly unrevealed) that is focused in the void and the twistedness is causes to the rift. Baron Nashor now is a void monster that came to the rift affecting everything around him.

I wish we'd be able to bring the retro style. It looks better on some way imo.
I never played in the old one, but it seems more "magical" to me, I like it.

@@Sillywaffleface406 old map=more refreshing, more colors. it had a magical feel to it. First time I saw the change, I didn't like it. It's too stony looking and pale. The magical feel was removed. Atmosphere/tone is one of the most important aspects of games. The old map was better in terms of "vibe". Riot should rework the map and give more colors and feel to it. Current map is dead pale stony looking.

You know, I haven't thought much about old rift, but seeing this video made me appreciate it more. I used to think back and see it only as rough and gaudy. The new is yes more polished and lots of great details, but the old style was charming and whimsical.
so its 2020, and im hoping that Rito will make a brand new map soon, a colorful map.

The old sommuners Rift where a way more colorfull :D The new is so dull
and some of the objects look blatantly painted on, most of the trees for example. It's obvious that if you moved the camera even a little, they'd just be cardboard cutouts of trees.
It's supposed to be more matte and cooler looking rather than a game that looks like it has roblox graphics. This purposefully makes abilities and champions have more visibility and clarity to see effects. Also, you actually get relatively better FPS on the new summoners rift because it uses less 3d figures or something like that IIRC.
Edit: I'm not saying I don't agree with you. However, I prefer the new one, and I do miss the old rift :)

pistendee r new map has its advantages, but I would have preferred map update to have qualities of the both. Like, I love how stones, walls and water is done in the new map, but I hate the ground (both the main texture and detail) and how nature (trees or pretty much anything green) looks in the new map. Low detail and overall 2D look really contrasts with everything else.
Edges of the map and the base looks cool because there are a lot of well made walls and small details but jungle in my opinion looks extremely ugly.

In my opinion, the old one was all over the place with it's colors and shapes, and the Dragon and Baron design were super odd in the sense that they were almost impossible to take seriously. The only jg monster that could be taken somewhat seriously based on appearace were the wraiths. Bushes were ugly, too, and they were appropiately fixed in the new rift. Also, the new rift has such a nice clear visual identity! Nothing feels outta place, and it works according to the currect artistic direction League has.
It works in gameplay and it works in the artistic proposal.
PS: I'm terribly sorry if what I'm trying to get across feels all over the place, I'm a little sleepy.
The old one looked like something from fucking 1999. And it's obvious you're purely basing this off of nostalgia than anything actually reasonable.
I have never played League of Legends (I only made an account, but some reasons made me unable to play it), but I prefer the updated one. As an artist, I like how the art and design team considered the basics of art. They cooled down the colors because the bright colors are distracting and sometimes hurts in the eye. They wanted to create a scenery that is not distracting but still pleasing to the eyes. For those who complain how zero work they did to the new design, you don't know how hard it is to make these designs. Things to consider in designing things such as background art for games: visual beauty/aesthetics (of course it's about design, this is one thing to consider), feel (how the background makes the whole game alive), nostalgia (for the old players, changing the design but still trying to make it close to the old design), graphics, fps (frames per second, would the design make the game faster?), focus (what should the players focus on, the game or the design?), etc. So yeah, I only pointed a few, but I know there's more than that. Of course, I would also be saying I like the old map if I have been a player before, but that's just because of nostalgia. But I know that after looking at the map twice or thrice, I would be like "I like the new map better now".
TL;DR The new map is better compared to the old. Redesigning the old is harder than it seems.

No... I'm sure you don't mean the graphic quality but the whimsy and charm. The new has far away details that don't add to the map, but the old had close up extras. New-- 'cool' and muted colors; old-- charming/whimsy old fantasy themed and bright. I can see someone likening that theme/style more.

Trust me, I've been playing for 6 years now, i was so excited when the map got reworked, however the Easter eggs and the little things they removed I slightly miss and do have nostalgia for the map, don't get me wrong. but from a competitive and sear neatness and visibility stand point the new map wins.

The old map reminded a bit of a board game, with the turrets being the pieces and jungle camps being card photos on the board. Idk why honestly that's what it feels like to me.
