      I hope so. it is tough to think about strength....But that frame was designed for the weight like you put in my mind. and putting something below it would not be necessary. Adding metal to the top will help though to make it better. I am going to put the axle flip kits on there and take a look at the results before I continue with the build. Ordered them right now.

    Vw buses are pretty light. I actually want something similiar. I got a camaro and a ranchero and thats a bit heavier. I live under oroville dam in yuba city the thought of flood makes me want drive them out. Have fun, just my two cents make it for you bucket truck only or any othe single bus. Shorten it, just my opinion haul one at time.

    Nice,something different,looks kinda light weight for your purposes to me.needs to be beefed up quite a bit.my opinion.just do a lot of homework on your building for your needs.be safe.just keep doing your thing 😎😎😎👍👍👍

    Here’s a crazy thought: what about using hydraulics ? Kinda like low riders, you raise it up over the tires and lower it for running down the road.

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  7 дней назад +1

      the lift frame is right over the tires. when you lower it. it will be sitting on the tires.

    You mentioned the center of gravity issue and that is a legit concern. It seems like it might be worth considering wider axels and not having to build up so much.

    I 'think' I have a better understanding of the dilemma ... The physics associated with such a long trailer, is such that loading with maximum of two buses and the risks of fish tailing increases ,,.. Loading the buses forward ,onto the towbar, so as to alleviate the risk, means ? ...Just how much weight and the specification of the towbar has to be considered ... Braking with an SUV ? Resurrecting an old tow truck, with hydraulic platform with provision for the second vehicle to be towed, may be more expensive solution, but more practical/safer and have resale value Kind regards Alex

    My main question has to do with return on time invested. Your expertise is in VW’s. Would it be cheaper to spend the time this would take (including learning curve on car carrier building) yield more money if used in VW-related work and flipping? Then you take that money and buy a used carrier. I don’t know the answer. Just asking…
    Thanks for the great content BTW!

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  7 дней назад +3

      vw flipping is not profitable unless I just dont do any work or buy parts. building cars is a loss. or break even.

  • @bajaroy1
    @bajaroy1 7 дней назад +2

    You could make it a tilt trailer. That would cure your dove tail issue

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  7 дней назад +1

      yea thought about that too. really heavy frame. would need heavy duty axles. with short tires. $$$$$$

  • @danamcintyre3565
    @danamcintyre3565 7 дней назад +4

    And the tire width is about the same as the frame on your trailer, I think what ever you build on it has to be able to flex or the frame will break from your ramps ? The higher you make the trailer the longer your ramps will need to be and you don't want it to be top heavy.

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  7 дней назад

      yea I am thinking 3 to 6 inch fenders. and a long dovetail. or beaver tail. 5 feet. and ramps that are pretty long too. with lots of support on them.

  • @earlsnotch

    Shorter wheels and tires. Shorter deckover. Put a winch on it and make the trailer tilt.

  • @IAm1InTheIAm

    Not even close to what you need. Its a vintage 50's camper frame. I got one. I got rid of the old box and made it into a boat trailer- a 20' aluminum skiff- not a 7500lb truck. It'll bend in half. Car haulers are purpose built for a reason, by structural engineers who understand materials, weight capabilities, design, etc. Youd be adding a crapload of steel to something which wasnt designed to serve that purpose. Plus, you live in Kalifornicate, and licensing that Frankenstein will be a nightmare just to make it legal to be on the road. Scary, dude. -But, hey, wtf do i know?

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  7 дней назад

      truck weighs 4000lbs.

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  7 дней назад

      will be legal. total weight carried will not exceed 7500lbs. ever. truck is not as heavy as it looks. It is heavy but not more than a Toyota crown or small SUV.

  • @ginoperretta373
