  • Join Aussie JetSetter for a very special flight as he becomes the first ever person to review Australia's newest airline Nexus Airlines specifically on their Broome to Kununurra Dash 8 Q400 service (which continues on to Darwin). This flight which travels from the coastal tourist pearling town of Broome within Western Australia's spectacular Kimberley region to the State's most northerly town is Australia's longest sub regional intrastate flight covering a road distance of over 1050km which takes 1.5 hours in the air!
    In this review on one of Nexus Airline's 5 Dash 8 - Q400 aircraft I put Australia's newest airline which services regional destinations along the coastline from Perth to Darwin to the ultimate test to see how they rate in terms of aircraft, experience, service, food and value for money whilst also showing some spectacular scenery of Australia's east Kimberley region along the way!
    Current Sub count 2073! (please help me grow this by subscribing to my channel and sharing this review with family and friends if you have enjoyed it! :)

    Just a detail correction: Kununurra is not the most northerly town in Western Australia. The nearby Port of Wyndham is farther to the northwest, then even farther northwest is Oombulgurri with Kalumburu much farther to the northwest again. There may be others but those are the ones I spotted on the map, having been to Kununurra and Wyndham myself.

      @AussieJetSetter  2 месяца назад

      Thanks for watching mate and correcting the record. I will have to check exactly what I said but I think I probably meant to say most north-easterly town. That would be more accurate I think.
      Once again sorry for any confusion.
      Cheers
      Stephen

    Is nexus and Rex have a partnership! Just curious also great video

    • @AussieJetSetter
      @AussieJetSetter  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for watching as far as I’m aware there is no partnership between the two airlines from what I understand. I wouldn’t put it out of the realm of possibility though that Nexus may want to start a partnership in the future though to feed passengers on to interstate flights!

      @@AussieJetSetter I see nexus competing in the regional market soon

    • @AussieJetSetter
      @AussieJetSetter  3 месяца назад

      Yeah certainly potential for more opportunity especially in the southern half of WA. Not sure exactly how the RPT contracts work though and whether other airlines can compete on those routes.
      Not sure it’s likely they would start direct flights to the Pilbara or Kimberly from Perth as the Q400 wouldn’t be the most time effective option for the mining community but I think a milk run from Darwin to Adelaide could work!

  • @gregj7916
    @gregj7916 3 месяца назад +3

    Unsure why this mob failed to get the RPT routes from Perth to Esperance & Albany.....Rex still struggling with their very old SAAB 340's....

    • @AussieJetSetter
      @AussieJetSetter  3 месяца назад

      Thanks for watching. Yes it’s interesting I would of thought the demand would be there for the Dash 8 on these routes (I’m sure SkyWest used to fly Fokker 50s on both routes). Maybe the smaller plane means they can offer a higher frequency of services though. I Do hope Nexus really take off soon and take up many more regional WA routes to bring prices down. I do hear they are now doing a few odd flights to Kalgoorlie now under some special arrangement and have a few charter and mining contracts as well. The WA markets deserves a good shake up for sake of regional consumers!

      @@AussieJetSetter I did Skywest Fokker 50 a few times between Esperance and Perth . I also did Albany to Perth on Skywest Fokker 50 and that used to go via Busselton.

      I work at YESP. Nexus has put their name in if REX does end up shutting down. Due to the PCN (The strength of the runway), the Dash 8 will have operate under a pavement concession which details the landing gear PSI and MTOW they can only operate. While I do not know why the WA Gov chose Rex, I think its more of that REX is more known and proven (even thou they had a streak of OTP of 25% in 2023) while Nexus is still new. Esperance is trying to get state and federal funding so they can upgrade the runways (worth about $50 mil to $70 mil). I really do hope Nexus become the new skywest as I do enjoy Rex’s snacks (I do pinch some from our kitchen) and know some of the REXs staff and they’re great people, I wish I can get a full meal as we only have vending machines in the terminal.
      And to the people who are asking “why can’t just operate the route and compete with REX?” Legally they can’t. Some WA routes are “regulated monopoly routes” where only one airline can operate on that route. Some examples are Canarvon, Esperance and Albany. They only can be gained by gov tender every 7 years.
