Hi! Just wanna ask how to separate mirrored object for july 2023 updates nomad, because the one you showed us is completely different from mine.,, thank you!
I use Blender for my 3D sculpting workflow, and was recently thinking to try it on my ipad with Nomad Sculpt. This was a great intro to Nomad Sculpt - thank you Dave!
thank you so much for this! I was SO frustrated with trying to learn Blender and gave up but eventually came across Nomad. And this video REALLY helped make it all clear and understandable. Gonna give 3D sculpting another chance thanks to this ;)
Dave we really need a course for people who aren't familiar with all the 3d modeling terminology and you seem like the most capable of making that for Nomad Sculpt. I would pay for it, that's for sure.
You can try this one out, I had the same exact idea! She does cover a few of the tools at certain points, but should be able to follow along! ruclips.net/video/5LKgyfwIlFs/видео.html
I was never able to get the draw radius nearly as big as you do at 6:08 in the video. For anybody having similar problems, go to Stroke (Move) settings (in the top row of toolbar buttons, it's in the right hand group in his video; second from the left). Uncheck "World-space radius." Tapping info gives no indication it'll limit the size of the brush so much. But it seems to limit the brush size considerably.
It's tricky because multiple options can effect the tools, I get lost with that sometimes! I think I keep those two options off all of the time, I use move and drag quite often!

Great video Dave and for a first time i didn't mind the advertisement at the end after watching this long video because i felt less pushed and kinda stimulates people to take it a step further!
@@drugfreedave Thanks for the response, Dave. Yes, I find this application amazing value for money. I use an iPad Pro 2020. I’m in the UK, and Nomad only cost me £9.99. I’ve played around a lot on it, but yet to come out with any great creations. Loved the Gameboy videos by the way. Perhaps some other gadget you could do in the near future if you have the time and inclination! Many thanks again. Very inspiring.
I'm really grateful to watch this tutorial... Actually other beginner tutorials on youtube is not that easy or enough explained, but this one is perfect. Even tho english is not my first language, I can understand everything what you said cause you explained it so well. Thanks! I hope you keep uploading tutorials for beginners :) + But I can't find 'seperate' menu behind the scene... did it update or something?
👋😎Hey, Dave!! I've never taken the time to comment on a youtube video but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to thank you for your VERY clear and concise educationals.🔥I'm a packaging designer, and your thoughtfully planned examples are packed with just the right amount of info, avoiding noob overload. 🤔Questions for Dave/ anyone familiar, please: 1a. Do you have experience pairing Nomad with Adobe Substance 3D apps like Stager? 1b. If so, do they play nicely together? I surmise I'd be working primarily with .objs but not positive. 2a. Dave: Do you have any tutorials on specialty packaging? 2b. If not, would you consider making one, or pointing me toward another tutorial of yours, please? I hope this was simple enough! I do have a beginner class on skillshare, but once you play around with the app for awhile trust me it gets easier to get the sculpts you want! :)
@@drugfreedave It is pretty easy to use this app, all I needed to do was play around with the tools and get to know the basics and because this app is similar to 3D Blender in a way, i'll definitely understand how to use Blender a bit better now because of this app, I'm so glad this app exists Xd
this video is super helpful thanks you !! I have a question too, idk why but me my clay/character is less smooth than you like I can't smooth it correctly bc the pixel are showing too much TT do you know what can I do to have a result like you where you can't see the pixel ??

Could i ask what the pre validation stage is for? Is it to generate the overall shape more quickly? Would you bring multiple unvalidated shapes to generate a massing model?
i wish i could learn 2d animating, but i dont think my country has that... 3d dominates here. (or i probably wont even be able to major in it anyway but still a)
Can you please tell me if it is possible to add several of your models to the program at once? Primitives are added, but several STL models, I can not.
I am having trouble duplicating for some reason? I do it the same way as in the video to make the arms, but it just makes a gizmo with no duplicate shapes to move with it. I would appreciate any help you can provide!
Hmm, firstly, try hiding the body. Click on the eye icon next to the body in the scene menu. When you clone the legs, there should be two of them in the scene menu. the gizmo should only move one of them. You can clone from the scene menu, and it should say "legs 1" ..see if that helps. Also, make sure to click on the item under the red mirror in the scene menu. Otherwise it will just move the gizmo if you're selected only the red "mirror"!
@@drugfreedave I bought the program recently so my nomad looks a little different than the video, but for some reason it would duplicate properly if I used the clone option at the top of the layers tab and not the three dots next to the individual layer. I’m not exactly sure what I did but it works now. 😂 Thank you for your help!
Hi Dave, love the videos. I'm new to Nomad and I had a question I was hoping you could answer. I did a google search but couldn't find anything. On the left had side there is two snap options. I understand the snap to angle but there is a second Snap below it. It has an arrow pointing to the right. What does that Snap do?
Hey Randy! So that snaps in lengths.. so if you wanted to move a mesh 3 clicks right and 1 click down, you could use that. You can adjust the distance 👍🏾
Thank you the tutorial, it’s fun! I’m hoping you can answer my question since google failed me- in a new project I UV mapped all my objects for export to procreate, however, once in procreate I can only paint on the some of the objects. For some reason any object that I mirrored, I can only paint the original and not the mirrored one. Procreate will let me color drop onto the mirrored object still, but not paint on it. I’ve tried messing around in different settings but I really don’t know what I’m doing. Any thoughts? (I am trying to leave the objects separated from the main body for easier painting in procreate)
Thanks!! The woman in the official video goes Way too fast (she seems to forget her knowledge/skill level is far superior to that of an actual beginner) for a tutorial. Hi! you ( I was going to call you like J.D. usually call Turk from Scrubs one of my fav shows... but I don´t know if can be disrespectful. And is the last thing I want to do. But you look like a cute teddy bear! ) ok my question, there are more videos from you on Skillshare that aren´t here on youtube? is to join skillshare or not lol. And thanks for this video! I´m your fan! such a simple character and with a tiny tricks you give so much cute look and more interesting look! thank you
Haha, i think teddy bears are quite cute!! 😁😁 I do have many classes on skillshare, they are much different as skillshare classes have more structure and are a bit polished than the ones I make here. You can always try out the free trial, if you use my link that will support me and my channel : also they’ve been having a sale so it may still be on! It was 40% off 😁😁
Hey man, I'm recreating this but I'm running into some issues. First, I'm using an iphone 8 plus and I'm having a difficult time figuring out how to color meshes since we don't have that color selector widget with a line through it readily available. Second, how are you able to have that lighting reflection prior to adding a light? When I remove environment lighting it makes the shadows horribly dark. TLDR; I'm having issues with coloring meshes on mobile, and with matcap lighting
Hey! So I'm not sure how it looks on mobile, but you can try going to the paint tool, the color sphere should be there as well. Metcaps ignore all lighting, it'll just show whatever surface the Metcap is (like the rainbow one for example) when using pbr (instead of Metcap) you can get reflections from the environment. But only on glossy (roughness all the way down) surfaces. If you're around, try to catch me on live and I can go over anything you have issues with! 👍🏾
You can subdivide or voxel remesh then and smooth them out. The spheres may deform a bit with smooth tool unless they are dense enough, so be careful with that. Maybe low intensity smooth 👍🏾
Lol I watched entire video then realized I saved your class on skillshare to watch later🤣 guess that means I better get off youtube and actually start doing it
You’re on the right track doing both! That’s the way to go, my Skillshare classes are way more structured than RUclips, but you can’t go wrong with both! 💯👍🏾
Hm When I turn on symmetry and "push up" from the bottom, it just makes a small round internal dimple. It doesn't change the entire shape as it does in the video. My settings are the same. I'm lost. I'm in the newest version. Did something change?
Hmm, try move brush sizes, and also in the move tool settings (Stroke (Move) try unchecjinh the top two World-space radius / Share radius. Also move and drag are similar but work differently so check that too!
Hi 🙌 I hope you can help. I came across a problem with “Separate” button. When I mirror the arm and then want to separate it doesn’t allow me to do that and displays this message “could not separate, the object has only one part”. I searched all web and there isn’t an answer for that. Maybe you could help please? Is it a bug or is there another way to separate them🌷🌷🌷 p.s I have the newest version of Nomad.
If i try to separate the arms, it says that there's only one item. So i duplicated it to have two arms, but now i dont know how to seperate them or even cancle the mirroring. Does anybody have an idea?
Never mind, i found the soulution. Under scene, you see all the objects. Those ones under "mirror" are mirrored and need to be dragged into another section. I dragged them unter my "body" section and IT worked
Glad you got it worked out! It can be a bit tricky, usually the answer is so close, but so far 😅😂 - I’m gonna do a new version like this for the update! 👍🏾
Hi i have a quick question how do you turn on horizon line ? I didn’t have it on when i first got it (which was like few mins ago LOl) I tried searching on google but I can’t find answer sob
I’ve tried to follow this guide step by step. And I’ve really struggled with the “separate” function. Every time I try to do it, it tells me “could not separate:the object only has one part”. It looks like I’m running a different version too. I’m running 1.68
Unfortunately the layers act differently in the newer version. Someone else mentioned this, I’ll have to go back through this tutorial and create an update. Is that just for the arm going up? If they are cloned then they are separate. I’ll check the video tomorrow to see which part I’m saying to separate 👍🏾
@@drugfreedave yeah, when I clone the arms and legs I can’t seem to find an option that will allow me to just move one at a time. Thank you for the quick response! Love your video, because it’s the first one I’ve been able to grasp as a newcomer
If you make a sphere (any shape) you can then tap the shape, and add a mirror (the same way you’d add a sphere but instead tap the red mirror lower in the repeater section). Or you can simply clone the spheres and place them on each side (or make 4 spheres. I’m working on a class at the moment, but I’ll def do a simple one like this with the updated version! 💯🙌🏾
@@drugfreedave I think I’m just gonna have to start taking your classes! Thank you so much for the tip, I’m going to try it out when I get home tonight.
You can try selecting all of the meshes together (the whole model) and tap move origin in the gizmo panel (I think) move origin will move things to world center - let me know if this works! I don't have my iPad with me at the moment
Excuse me, I always notice what you do when you choose a certain spherical object, for example, or a cube, or any other type, whose color is very white, but in my case, even when I raise its color to the maximum white color, it is light gray, or it is not the same degree and intensity as white. What's the secret?
Go to the lights panel, it could be environment (try different images). You can also adjust the exposure. When you add a light, you can adjust the exposure of the light as well. Also, I always sculpt in metcap (instead of litpbr) I do this because of all those things I mentioned , they don’t help while sculpting! I suggest turning environment off when setting up your lights to get a more true idea of the lighting 👍🏾
The separate tool doesnt work for me it just say cannot separate layer has only 1 item. But its the mirroed item that has two legs. So how can it be one item this is so fustrating no one else is showing how
To make the legs, you can create the spheres as normal mirrored, you don’t have to separate them (I can’t remember why I did in the video) I’ll need it make a new version of this for version 1.68!
Bro this is literally tutorial. U explain it very detail not just showing the process from begining to the end but literally explaining why this why that

Thank you so much for this tutorial, u helped me a lot, im starting from scratch +1 sub :)
This is the first video I’m watching and looks amazing. I have a question about do you rig the characters you made?
Thanks 🙏 👍👍
You bet! Thanks for swinging by the channel!! :)
Sharing the same reference image would have been nice :)
Great tutorial! Bought the app today. But I'm wondering why my selected colours aren't visible. Everything's white.
Can do a 3d print with Nomad?
How does one change the background colour of the sculpting space? Mine’s dark brown and I’d like it a bit lighter.
It’s in the icon left of the camera icon. You can change the color or add a background image!
Thank you.
Glad to help !
thanks for this! in mine the eyes look pixelated for some reason, why is that?
Is it a bug or is there another way to separate them🌷🌷🌷 p.s I have the newest version of Nomad.
where is the separate button, i don even have one
Yess thank you 🙌
Sure thing! It's so hard to keep it simple, but I hope I do a decent job - such a fun app! 🤗
То, что доктор прописал. Супер, сохранил.
How do i make that cube appear? The one that changes the view from front, back, etc? It disappeared for me and i cant seem to being it back
It's called a snap cube, it should be in the settings on the top right!
How to remove the two dot while blending?I want just I dot to blend
Perhaps turning off the symmetry 👍🏾
question... would you voxel merge if you were wanting to later rig/ animate it?
I suppose you wouldn’t, i have no plans to rig or animate at this point. I just model to make 3D art 👍🏾
@@drugfreedave just curious because at some point. I do.
@@Writterssoul to rig im pretty sure you’d want everything separate. The update had hierarchy so that should be a bit easier!
Hi! I am using iPad and I don't see the separate and simple merge option in my settings, can anyone help me
You may have the updated version - simple merge is join. To separate tap the three dots in the layer and it’s in the submenu 👍🏾
can i use nomad scupt for commercial uses..?
I don't see why not, it's just an app to create the work.. After that get your money if you can!! 🤗
Hi i have a quick question how do you turn on horizon line ?
I didn’t have it on when i first got it (which was like few mins ago LOl)
I tried searching on google but I can’t find answer sob
You turn on the grid, the horizon line is red now!
@@drugfreedave thank you so much
your video helped me a lot and I was even able to create my first 3d modeling character!!!!
@@drugfreedave you’re an absolute saint! That was it! Thank you so much for the help. I’ll be looking into you classes now
Hey after I made this it isn’t flat on plane. So when I take to cura as a stl it’s not flat. How do I get it flat ? It’s tilted.

I didn't understand what you meant because I saw that the black and white image that I chose had amazing exposure on the objects
program na drop down nu wNice tutorialch lists all the different app softs. For so reason it makes the default "Agressive TE" make sure
Hmm 🤔
So incredibly frustrating that the UI changes so much and my buttons don't match with the video.
The separate tool doesnt work for me it just say cannot separate layer has only 1 item. But its the mirroed item that has two legs. So how can it be one item this is so fustrating no one else is showing how
This was made on a previous version of Nomad, so the tools may look and react a bit differently! Are you using the updated version?
To make the legs, you can create the spheres as normal mirrored, you don’t have to separate them (I can’t remember why I did in the video) I’ll need it make a new version of this for version 1.68!
i cloned it but it wont let me seperate them?
If you clone you don’t have to separate, cloning just creates a separate exact shape 👍🏾
Bro this is literally tutorial. U explain it very detail not just showing the process from begining to the end but literally explaining why this why that
Is tNice tutorials the free version?
This is free on youtube 👍🏾
I made it.
awesome! Hope you enjoyed the video! :)
I want to ask, why the color of my screen is so dark?....It's not about the brightness of my screen....but the colour of the object is dark
Could be your environment exposure is low? Hard to tell if I’m not seeing your settings!
Check the tab with lights in the bottom, you can change environments/ raise lower exposure.
@@drugfreedave I guess that's the problem....thanks Mr.dave. I just download nomad yesterday, and I already make "power puff". It's so fun to learn nomad, and I can't wait to see your other tutorials! Next, I wanna make a room with lights
I'm the 1k like 😂😂😂 your likes on this video was 999 likes .. lol .. thank u for the tutorial .. it was so useful
I appreciate your like!! 😁🤙🏾💯
ok I’ll try that lol
Great!!
👍👍👍
Thanks for swinging by!!
Oof I followed this and it looked awful I must have missed some steps
Try it again, you'll, get it! 😊 👍🏾
😊😊🙂
