Michael K is 1000% correct and looking at the bigger picture OBJECTIVELY, which many Knicks fans don't have the mental/emotional capacity to acknowledge/comprehend or do, or just don't care.....This deal was not about who they can bring in going forward, this was a pre-negotiated deal in the making to sacrifice all of your assets to get his buddy who is only a role-player, which is not how you build a Championship Team in the History of sports, to ensure he, meaning mikal gets resigned and none of his Villanova brothers get traded....It's not about who they are bringing in, but to ensure who doesn't go out.....
(Cap space, which is only limited, does not bring you Super Stars, trading for them does and without picks, it will cost developing players, who's contracts will not be enough to bring in a "needle mover"....Michael is right....)..

The one thing I want to push back on Kay on is, he kept saying what if JB suffers a catastrophic injury then he wouldn’t recoup any of the money he’s leaving on the table, but what if god forbid he suffers the injury this upcoming season and did not sign the contract this summer, what then?
I understand the sentiment that it shouldn’t be up to a player thats already done so much for the team to make them financially stable but the front office has been on the right track (for the first time in a long time) and Jalen truly wants to do everything in his power to keep that momentum going and i have trust the front office wont let his sacrifice go in vain. Its all about trust at this point and i hope it pays off

People tend to forget that, not too long ago, the Knicks gave this man $100 million when the rest of the league thought they were insane! The organization believed in him and he over delivered. Now, he is simply returning the favor and providing them the flexibility. Plus, don’t forget the bro code. Hart did it to get DiVincenzo and now Brunson does it to get Bridges.
This should be celebrated and not criticized.

If this was Juan Soto or any "star" player for the Yankees and signed for a discount with the Yankees, Michael would be praising that player for being "selfless" and giving the Yankees flexibility to do more or for wanting to win in NY. He wouldn't have this much outrage if this was a player signing for the Yankees.

Knicks are not at the cap hit. That's why this deal was so important. All the moves they made from drafting back, also adjusting the 1st rounder draft pick etc. This keeps them under the 1st apron. This is moves other teams need to do. When you reach the second apron your basically hamstrung from making moves. I wish folks wouldn't comment on things they have no clue about. Brunson wasn't forced to take it. He took it becuase he's not your typical me me me person. He wants to win plain and simple. Even in Dallas he wanted to win and was wiling to take less. Smh get real

Genuinely a horrendous take on every level. Leon Rose is his f*cking godfather, he’s not “taking advantage” of Brunson in any way shape or form. This was his choice and after everything the org has done for him, he feels it best to give it back, and it makes him a far better person for doing so. Also they are 1000% in the same tier as Boston, Denver, Philly, OKC, or Minnesota. Kay doesn’t know basketball whatsoever

It's funny Michael Kay always says all these things about the Knicks, but would never say even a peep of a bad word about my struggling Yankees. Now that being said, he's pulled out the ESPN book of controversy. He doesn't really believe what he's saying because you can tell he's forcing his "displeasure", he's trying to keep people interested in acting that way for views and listen.

He’s gonna make the same money for the rest of the decade regardless of which extension option he took. The option he chose gives the Knicks more savings/flexibility in 25-27. The other option would’ve given the team more savings in 28-30.
What if told the front office if you get my nova teammates here I'll take a pay cut .. or maybe he just understands if I take a cut the team might be able to build better. He will still get his money on the back end .

Where is this 300 plus million he is talking about I thought the max next year was 269. What if he had a serious injury next year you think they give him the max the following year?
This contract keeps them out the second apron do you have any idea how hard it is for Minnesota and Denver and eventually Boston to do any move? Boston is not this all-time team they're stuck now can't make any moves and it's always hard to repeat.

My man Usually has pretty good takes on things. But on this one he is way off. Brunson knows with this style there playing they are going to need depth. He's going all in on winning now.

The fact he STILL thinks this is beyond dumb. The Knicks are 100% in the same tier and yet Kay wants that monkey’s paw of a player in KD or worse KAT. They’re a finals caliber team right now in the way they’re built and now with Brunson’s discount, both Randle and Bridges can be re-signed very easily while not going into the second apron of the new CBA.

Brunson’s contract is not a complete financial concession. He will double his money in two years.
The only way this you can disagree with deal from Brunsons standpoint is if you don’t think he will continue to play at this level and/or if the you don’t believe the Knicks have the ability to compete for a championship in the next two seasons.

And if Brunson gets hurt?
Brunson is gonna make the same total money over the rest of the decade regardless of which option he chose. The option he chose helps the Knicks have extra money to spend until 2028. If he had chose the other option it would’ve given the Knicks extra money to spend in 28-30. Basically he’s doing what he can to help the Knicks win in the next 3 years.
