  • Alex Harrison, aged seven, strapping the 72 cwt tenor at Exeter with his dad. As you can see, there are plenty of experienced ringers around to keep an eye on him. Well done Alex!

Upon arriving in the UK later this year (2024) I have TWO tenors to ring, the first is the world's heaviest one 'Emmanuel' some cwt 82 at Liverpool Cathedral, and this one at Exeter! If Alex can do this then certainly I can as well! CAN'T WAIT!

@waltzplayer Since when was bouncing the tenor ever a way to "gauge the weight"?
People do it to get the bell moving - whether you're six or sixty, a heavy bell isn't just going to fall off the balance.

Only recently viewed this video - the chap on the tenor isn't actually "bouncing " the |Tenor off the stay but merely taking the slack rope off the wheel !

WOW he was doing very well considering that bell weighs about 3.6 tones

I wouldn’t have been able to do that at that age I’m 13 and I can ring a 3.8 ton tenor(both handstroke and backstroke)

Why on earth bother "bouncing" the tenor - the seconds before the man actually pulls off he completely stops the motion and pulls smoothy anyway. It's obviously a heavy bell so no need to gauge the weight first, right?

Completely inaccurate assessment of what's happening.

Its not the bells that sound better than Liverpool you need to take into account that the tower is part of the giant musical instrument and so if you swapped bells it would be interestingto hear what Liverpool bells sounded like in exeter
