  • Inspired by this song, I made a fanvideo with some ruler women who I thought this song about empire-building suited.
    Catherine the Great (Ekaterina)
    One of the three Russian rulers who earned the nickname "the Great". She ruled Russia from 1762 until 1796, and under her reign, Russia was revitalised; it grew larger and stronger, and was recognised as one of the great powers of Europe and Asia.
    Isabella I of Castile (Isabel)
    Queen regnant of Castile 1474-1504 and Queen consort of Aragon 1479-1504. Her marriage to Ferdinand of Aragon created the basis of the unification of Spain. She inherited a broke Castile from her brother, and at her death, it was a revitalised, powerful country, soon becoming the Spanish Empire, thanks to Isabella supporting Columbus's discovery of America. She and Ferdinand also completed the Reconquista, conquiering Granada in 1492.
    Saint Jadwiga of Poland (Korona Królow)
    Reigned in Poland at age 11-25 (1384-1399), and become one of the greatest rulers of her country. Her marriage to Jogaila of Lithuania enabled the union of Poland and Lithuania, establishing a large state in East Central Europe. Her cultural and charitable activities were of exceptional value. Her effective leadership was joined by great kindness, mercy and generosity, for which values she was later sainted.
    Tamar the Great of Georgia (King Tamar)
    Ruled Georgia from 1184 to 1213 and oversaw the Georgian Golden Age. With her political and military successes, she created an empire which dominated the Caucasus, and her cultural achievements made Renaissance rule in Gergia 200 years before in the West.
    Maria Theresa of Austria (Maria Theresia)
    After winning the Austrian War of succession to claim her throne, she had a 40-year-long reign (1740-1780) which is considered to be exceptionally successful compared to other Habsburg rulers. Her reforms had transformed the empire into a modern state with a significant international standing, she centralised and modernised the institutions, and her reign was considered as the beginning of the era of "enlightened absolutism" in Austria.
    Wu Zetian (Empress of China)
    The only female ruler of China (690-705), she largely expanded the Chinese empire. She instituted political and economic policies that made the Tang Dynasty powerful during her reign.
    Empress Elizabeth of Russia (Ekaterina)
    During her reign (1741-1762), she continued the modernization work of her father, Peter the Great. She supported arts, education and architecture, and during her reign, the Russian court was one of the most splendid in all Europe. She remains one of the most popular Russian monarchs due to her strong opposition to Prussian policies and her decision not to execute a single person during her reign.
    Pharaoh Hatshepsut (Secrets of Egypt's Lost Queen)
    She is generally regarded as one of the most successful pharaohs and the first great woman in history. She was successful in warfare early in her reign, but generally is considered to be a pharaoh who inaugurated a long peaceful era. She re-established international trading relationships and brought great wealth to Egypt. She initiated building projects that raised the calibre of Ancient Egyptian architecture to a standard, comparable to classical architecture, that would not be rivaled by any other culture for a thousand years.
    Elizabeth I (Elizabeth; Elizabeth: The Golden Age)
    Her reign (1558-1603) became known as the Golden Age. The period is famous for the flourishing of English drama, and for the seafaring prowess of English adventurers, leading to the creation of the British Empire. After the short reigns of her half-siblings, her 44 years on the throne provided welcome stability for the kingdom and helped forge a sense of national identity.
    Queen Victoria (Victoria)
    Ruled for 63 years (1837-1901), her reign is known as the Victorian era, a period of industrial, cultural, political, scientific, and military change within the United Kingdom, and was marked by a great expansion of the British Empire.

    After Wu Zetian died,her grandson became the empror.And he had married to Wu Huifei(her formal name,like the prince of wales,I don't know how to translate),who comes from Wu Zetian's family.Wu Huifei was beloved by the empror that he wanted she to be the empress.But the ministers were so afraid she would become the second Wu Zetian(Wu Zetian first the empress and gradually took the power) that she had to stay at the fei status,while the empror made her live like the empress.I think it shows how deep Wu Zetian's influece is.

      @@Lily1127channel I first became interested in Hatshepsut, when I watched a documentary on History channel. Until then I had no idea that Hatshepsut had been such an important and powerful ruler.I felt intrigued how a women could have managed to be so powerful in ancient Egypt.
      I know there are some novels about her but I haven´t read them yet.
      Unfortunately there isn´t any series or film about her.

    I am surprised at the appearance of Wu Zetian in this video.As a chinese,I am so happy to see her in this video.Wu Zetian is a very tough,determined,smart and brave women.China once had some empress or queen to actuall rule the empire or country,like empress Lv Zhi in Han dynasty and queen mother of Qin,but none of them,before or after, had claimed that they are the legal ruler,only she became the empror and change the name of dynasty from Tang to Zhou.Although she's dynasty was not last too long.She still set up a precedent.I mean,its ancient china,women were not allowed to rule in her own name.She has to be the mother of the empress or the empress,evan you are the princess, you also don't have the heritage right,like Matilda of England,the duchess of Anjou.And Wu Zetian became the first and the only woman empress at such a difficult environment.Think about hard it would be.

    I think it's so cool that they used an awesome Austrian Actress with a fuller figure✊🏻 to portray Maria Theresia von Österreich (1717-1780)♥️. Her costumes kick ass and look stunning on her😍👌🏻.

    • @Lily1127channel

      I was not fan of the actress change, I liked the first actress and her acting was also better imo 😕 It was weird to see another actress with the same actor as a couple, they lost the chemistry, I think. Also, the historical accuracy for the time season 2 portrayed (early 1740s) didn't require a woman with more weight than the first actress. Although Maria Theresia became known as an overweight woman, she was pretty in her youth, and as early as in the 1740s, she still had an average figure, not fuller.
      Moreover, there was literally no time jump between season 1 and 2, so seeing one actress portraying her, and then one day in the story later seeing a completely different looking one, it was really weird. 😞

    • @janehollander1934
      @janehollander1934 Год назад

      Dear @@Lily1127channel , oh I hadn't realised that there wasn't a big time jump, historical, between season 1 & 2. In that case I agree with you 100% there wouldn't have been the need to pick an old and more mature looking actress. And indeed it was weird to change out the queen/empress and not her husband. Because they didn't "age" him at all. If ever they would create a much "later" season 3, this actress would have been a better choice. But I just liked the look of the "older" queen/empress. ✌🏻

    Hmm now I am hunting some new history show and I see here that Poland show I don't know. Is it good? I haven't heard anything about it, but I don't know if I will even find it on The internet. I also need to see new seasons of Ekaterina.
    Surprisings I don't find myself being interested in rulling woman in general. There are too many interesting history figures but mostly for me these are men or woman who even didn't rule (Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth Wodwill, Isabell of Portugal and more).

    • @Lily1127channel
      @Lily1127channel  4 года назад +3

      Korona Królow season 3 is very good with Jadwiga, previous seasons are less good but okay. Ekaterina season 3 surprised me with its greatness and even higher quality than the previous ones. There were many new locations, also outside Russia, pretenders to Catherine's throne, and the whole thing became a kinda game of thrones, I loved it. Now I am watching The Great, a historical comedy about Catherine, and it's hilarious, I love it 😄 It's with Elle Fanning and Sebastian de Souza (Boticelli from Medici).
      Well, for me, it's mostly ruling women who I find inspiring, or at least those who achieved something 😀 I don't know, it's just that as a modern woman with ambitions, I can look up to their achievements, but those who are merely known for their love life and tragedies like Anne Boleyn or Mary Stuart, I don't find them inspiring. By the way, for me Isabella of Portugal is also a ruling woman, because her rule as regent was also important.

    • @nikist1407
      @nikist1407 4 года назад

      Lili1127 Thanks. I also saw The Great few days ago, but I dont find it funny or interesting. I know that it is from same people who did Favourite which was also super boring. But I recognize Souza he was so cute! And The main man Peter played Tolkien very good in movie Tokien.
      I understand your point of view I am also ambitions and feministic woman. But I every time compare rulling woman with man and I have a lot of favourite kings. So to be honest, history especially The old one is about men.

    • @Lily1127channel
      @Lily1127channel  4 года назад

      I usually like historical parodies, so I also love The Great (much more than The Favorite), it is full of historical Easter eggs and hidden references, not only historical but also psychological ones. Every time they bring up the Catherine+horse rumor, I laugh so much 😄 It's a great parody about why hereditary monarchy is imperfect, what were the feudal social system's biggest faults, how men underestimated women and that's why a pretty girl like Catherine could have them eat from her hand, what madness happens when an incapable person gets absolute power (Peter), all the Russian stereotypes are mocked (the bear as a pet). The last time I enjoyed a historical parody so much it was the movie Stalin's Death.
      Yeah of course history has been much more about men than women, and history class mostly teaches about men, but that's why I love to research more about women. I love that I can always find new and unheard ones, like Jadwiga (I knew her a bit before but not as much as now after the series and research), and a holiday in Georgia introduced Tamar the Great to me who has become my personal favorite.

    • @nikist1407
      @nikist1407 4 года назад

      Lili1127 I also dont know Jadwiga, I know very little about Poland history in general and of course I dont know Tamar as well. I Love to discover new people. Now I want to learn more about Lorenzo because my trip to Florence was canceled, and also about Charles V. To be honest I am not a fan of parodies (when it is a movie or Series), because I mostly dont find it funny. But I agree that Peter was hillarious and I liked Grigorij as well, and Sebastián Souza was so sweet. I have him so much connected with history Series, but Boticelli is his best role so far. I Love his interaction with Medici brothers.
      Btw Dont you plan a video about Lorenzo or Any other history figure? Just one person? I am really courious :)
