It wasn't that Sir Gallahad didn't understand what was going on with all those women in the castle Anthrax, it was that he is "Sir Gallahad the Pure" or "Sir Gallahad the Chaste". Giving into the woman's temptation would've contradict his oath of chastity.

Galahad's entire thing was that he was the only one of the Knights of the Round Table to ever achieve finding the Holy Grail-the cup used by Jesus during the Last Supper and that supposedly was used to catch his blood during the crucifixion-because Galahad was the only one who was pure and virtuous enough to do so (the mission God charged King Arthur and his knights to do). If memory serves, Galahad finally locates it then dies shortly after, a virgin, because he's *that* pure. Pretty much his entire life was dedicated to just serving that purpose.
The movie's a satire of Arthurian legend, that the knight whose entire thing is his purity is the one faced with an entire castl full of nubile teens, some not legal, but who're all horny, and that he wasn't pure enough to resist temptation.

Originally the knight characters were going to ride real horses, but after it became clear that the film’s small budget precluded real horses, the Pythons decided that their characters would mime horse-riding while their porters trotted behind them banging coconut shells together.......The film’s initial budget of approximately $319,000 was raised by convincing 10 separate investors to pitch in.
It was funded by a coalition of rock stars and record labels such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Jethro Tull, Island Records, Chrysalis Records and Michael White.

Devin, these movies confused you because you lacked context. Monty Python isn't a person, it's a comedy troupe from Britain. Most people who saw this movie before the new millennium had already seen their show (Monty Python's Flying Circus) and knew what to expect. Look that up, and you'll understand way more about the MP movies.
Also, British comedy is an acquired taste for Americans. I grew up on it, so I nearly pissed myself the first time I saw this movie. If it's not your thing, that's fine... but at least give more of it a try, just to say you put effort into finding out for sure.

In the time this was supposed to have occurred, there had not been much interaction between the English and the French, and "Retreat" is a French word that would not have been know at the time. Over time many French words morphed into usage within the English language.

Those monks chanting and smacking themselves with a board in the face are a reference to the various kinds of christian religious orders of the time such as "Flagellants" who would whip or scourge themselves to purge sin from their bodies. The chant in the film is a real latin monastic chant which reads "Pie Jesu Dominae-" (Merciful Lord Jesus) "Dona Aes Requiem" (Grant Us Rest) and can be translated directly as "Oh Jesus please give us a break!"

I tend to be more partial to Young Frankenstein, but I think a lot of folks prefer Blazing Saddles. It’s similar to Monty Python in its silliness, but Mel Brooks movies have less (less, I didn’t say none) physical humor and more word play. So, there are definitely some style differences. But o think a lot of folks kind of group them together because of their silly, spoofy nature.

Movies up until the late 70s had the credits at the start of the movie but you really should have paid more attention to them as they are part of the comedy. The "Swedish" sub-titles, the mooses in the credits, the llamas in the replacement credits etc etc.
One of the things in this movie is that they screw with the audience and their expectations so for instance you have an intermission almost at the end of the movie rather than in the middle so when this was shown in cinemas a lot of the audience would get up to buy an ice cream or pop to the toilet only to have to rush back to their seats when the intermission turned out to be so short and of course you had the music and black screen at the end leaving people in the cinema waiting to see whether that was really the end or whether there was more. (Of course the in movie reason for the lack of credits at the end was also because the credits were at the beginning and those responsible for providing the credits had been sacked so couldn't provide anything at all at the end).
