I had very low water pressure when I purchased my over 30 year old home. I replaced the main water line from the meter to my house and the pressure went from pouring a 3 foot stream from the exterior faucet to a 20’ foot jet of water. No lie. The old 2” water supply line had so much calcium build up that it was restricted to under 1/2”. Hope this intel helps someone.

Do not use a trash or dewatering pump- unless it clearly says for Potable water
We had low water pressure when we moved to our current house. Turns out the ball valve on the main coming in is messed up and to get full pressure it has to be set to halfway. We had it fully open but that was really halfway. Works great now.
OMG that is a story dreams are made of. You hit the lottery with that one, very rare for it to ever be that easy
80 psi here. A few years ago I think they bumped it as my shower started pouring out water like it was a circus elephant shower. I had to buy a reducer at the head. (And no, it wasn't that the head's flow preventer blew off, that was the first thing I looked at.)
An expansion tank should really be used as a buffer
One inportant tuong to consider:
If you measure the pressure with the output close, it will just show the “passive” pressure without flow. It can be really high, but if you open the tap and the water runs, the “active” pressure will drop a lot.
So I would say, what matters is the active pressure.
Here in Europe my mums water lines and mine both can do 6bars passive, but when I open the taps, hers drop to 2 bars when flowing, but mine stays around 4 bars.
The pressure drop depends on the flow of water. It will be greater on low flow restriction like faucet and smaller on high restriction like shower head
exactly. His method of measuring pressure is incorrect or rather inconsistent. In most cases preasure drop arises from old piping which has gunked up. Hence you need to measure the active preasure with maximum flow engaged.
You can also increase your water pressure using the Pressure Relief Valve and do not need to buy a booster pump. Just turn screw opposite way. I agree you should use a pressure gauge. However, I'm not a plumber and only stayed a couple nights at the Holiday Inn Express.
As a plumber I know water from the city comes in at 100-110psi and you should have a pressure regulating value. If your pressures to above 80 or below 60 it's bad and needs to get replaced
You are right and so is the Person that reply but the city line should be check to make sure first pressure my very so I would make sure before I do any of those things my city line is 55 and no reducer I also work for a pump company. 👍👌✌️💯💦🌊
@@terrancelloyd5729 I called my city and they said the pressure at the fire hydrant is 45psi and I'm just out of luck due to being at the very top of one of their pressure zones.

Here in San Antonio we have to regulate the pressure down. Not by ordinance, but we don't want to bust things.

Is there a formula of how much the pressure decreases for each sprinkler head? I assume each head just popping up decreases the available pressure of the system. Does using a specific sprinkler head reduce water pressure more than other? (ie rotors, rotary nozzles, spray nozzles, impact sprinkler heads…).
Does too many sprinkler heads reduce the pressure just mostly at the end or even the first sprinkler head?
And what type of sprinkler head still works ok at very low PSI? (I bought a house with a full system set up over 1/2 acre. At the bottom of the hill I tried to test the PSI and I think it’s like 10. There are 14 Rain-bird rotating R Vans and even a drip line to this section.
Oh, and does having all the sprinklers in a row off the same line effect pressure any differently than having the main line branch 2 separate directions with the heads off 2 different branches? Thanks.
I've gone through three regulators in about 5 years tell me how to fix that other than moving. Pressure somewhere around 160 plus
Wow, that is crazy high. Definitely get ones with a union so you can change them easier. I like Watts stuff a lot but Caleffi makes some top quality stuff that may be that much better.
How do you install the in house device and where about does it go into to supply the entire home automatically?
Yes, you just cut into the line after your meter, goes in and out and the pump does the rest on its own. Old ones needed all kinds of crazy stuff, these ones are amazining. They sense you using water and turn on, they are also super silent, the one in the the video is a utility pump and loud.

Actually here in Texas it is required by TCEQ minimum 35psi at your street meter. Building code is 40psi. Anything less than 35psi and 1.5gpm is a violation and health hazard because contaminants and sediments can’t be flushed. Home warranty companies are denying claims in a home due to low water pressure. If you have low water pressure go to the right source “not your water dept” and file a complaint.
40psi is at the the bottom 1.5gpm is crazy low. average us flow rates are 5-12gpm and at 40psi, if you have a second floor that could be very bad. Im sure most homes are higher there that but getting 40 and 1.5gpm isn't going to be a great experience

how does the low volume on the inlet of the pump keep up to the higher outlet if it's sending out more water using that very small buffer area? I would think that pump would cavitate a lot since it would constantly be emptying. I guess I've missed something between PSI and flow rates.
Those little pumps usually have a 6 or 8 meter head height, so they must suck. I suspect the extra water pressure is at the expense of slightly lowering the neighbour's water pressure. Works for me, but I might put the pump in an out of the way position LOL.
@@Nedman59 It does indeed "suck". Not really going under atmospheric pressure, but it lower the pressure on the intake side under what it usually is, so there’s naturally more flow coming from the city. This kind of pump are in fact REALLY common in any building that’s too high (because the pressure will lower the higher you go in the building). If you live in a 3-4+ floor building, there’s probably a booster pump in it.

They are definitely related and sometimes boosting pressure some will also increase delivery and volume. Now you can't overcome the size of your main but if you are low on PSI anyway starting with a booster might solve both issues but if not at least it will get you 1/2 way there.

Just call your local pump company a VFD and booster would be the best thing you wouldn't need a timer hope it helps

Sounds like you need a "Pump Pressure Tank" fitted into your system. They come in many sizes and keep a reserve of water under pressure with a bladder. That way the pump is only turned on when the pressure tank is empty.
@@Nedman59 thanks for your reply. I do have a pressure tank but the pump still cycles quite often considering there may be 4-6 irigation heads running at once. I heard you can play with the pressure ranges so it cycles less often but I didn't want to mess with it myself.
@@Milehi6h you can call you local pump company but it sounds like the tank is bad if it's heavy it's bad push on the valve steam if water sprays out it's bad if it good you my need more tanks the more you have the longer it will take for the come on hope this helps I do this for alive for 18+ for a pump company 💦🌊👍👌✌️💯🥂

@@SilverCymbal I use a similar pump from harbor freight to gain sprinkler distance. I believe my problem is water flow in the house. I can only run 1 sprinkler on the pump and when I do no water comes out of any other faucet at the same time. I have to constantly shut off the sprinkler to shower or do dishes.
At least the pressure regulator you showed had the “ANSI/NSF -61” No Lead tag….. something to point out. Lowe’s, Menards, Home Depot, etc. all carry both lead and lead-free. Do yourself or your family the favor and always use NSF-61 tagged parts/fittings.

I think you missed part of the problem with some water supply lines, If the water supply is very low like 2 to 3 gallons per minute increasing the water pressure will not make things better for the home owner.
I had a well that was 2 gallons per minute and more pressure was not going to help anything for the home.
I think this is my problem. I have city water but it’s only 35psi. I tried to raise the pressure but it’s not enough flow. I can run 1 sprinkler with a water pump to make it spray and no other faucets will work at all in my house at the same time.

That is the first thing I would establish.
Mark the time it takes to fill a 5 gallon pail.
Or an ice cream pail.
All the replays back are right 2 gallon a min mines the well is no good you are going to need a new well very soon you can't even get a house permit to build if you don't have 3 or way more gallon permit I no this because I work for a pump company for 18+ now and have done test on wells for home to be built 👍👌✌️💯💦🌊

You can the best thing would to get a hold of your local pump company the will no exactly what you need but they probably will have to look at the system to figure it out they going to use a VFD it the best way to do this hope it helps iv work for a pump company and we have done this but I don't know what your complete system looks like 💦🌊👍👌✌️💯🥂
Really, put a pressure gauge on your hose outside Faucet, if you have a well, 40 to 60 is normal, if you have city water, make sure you have Pressure Reducer Valve, say at 50 PSI, if it goes bad your water heater T&P valve will Leak, 50 PsI on city water is great, really there is No problem putting a PRV on your well tank output if you have a well even...

As a distributor salesperson, I have sold these McDonald units offering many features, with no issues and, if needed, good application support from the rep/manufacturer successfully to plumbing contractors. On the high end price wise, but designed and built for permanent and long term installation in residential homes. McDonald definitely knows how to build boosters right as they make much larger units for commercial and industrial applications as well.
They are not called pressure pumps, they are called Booster pumps, example if you live up a hill with city water service

No, there would be no change for them. Water main lines are huge and have much capacity, our homes limiting factor is always the pipe from the street to our house.The pump only affects the line you are on to your home.

Too high pressure is begging for problems. Bursting pipes, etc. 40 psi is what’s considered safe.
You can go to 80 but I wouldn't go any higher Every thing is supposed to be rated at 150psi but as stuff gets older it lessons that why it's not 150 and of course if the person that installed Did it right. 💦🌊👍👌✌️💯🥂

@@Desertjoe789 there not illegal in California I work for a pump company for over 18 years and install over 1000 pumps all most everyone that doesn't live in city limits has one and in Santa Barbara they are really popular because most people live on a hill and as you go up the pressure is less so they boost it back up at there house. This is a miss leading video on the low pressure because you need other things to make the system work right depending on your application if he was going to make this simplistic video he should of told everyone that a VFD will solve the problem the one for a home plumbs in line with your incoming main line then to the house on the out side a 3ab2 controller tells the pump when to come on and you can change the set point a transducer goes in line at tells the controller everything there also a small pressure tank that mount on a manifold with the booster pump. You will have a bunch of problems if you try to do what he is saying in the video because there no other control or switch that will be able to put in a set point and would be extremely hard to do because of the incoming pressure and you have to have at least 5 gpm recommended I could explain a lot more but it would be over a page long the best thing to do is call a local pump company and not a plumber there for the inside of your house. I might no a thing or two I have installed and rebuilt plus work for a pump company for over 19 years and seen a lot of half ass set ups and had to fix them and can say it's easier to just do it then to fix some one else set up they thought was right and it will cost you less in the long run then try to do this your self in less a pump company shows you every thing and you are capable in following exact detections hope this helps 💦🌊👍👌✌️💯🥂
