When did you first get your GameCube?
I feel so blessed that my childhood happened to be during the gamecube era. Thanks joshy for perfectly articulating why gamecube is my favorite console ever ;-;

Funny thing, the Gamecube controller was considered fairly gimmicky back then.

Had Nintendo had the nutz to release what would later become the Wii in 2001 instead of the GC design and just bite the bullet and charge $350, I believe it would’ve outsold the PS2, had way more 3rd party exclusives, better looking/performing cross platform games and would’ve made Nintendo more of a contender in the online market. All the great games released for the GC and Wii being released from 2001 to 2006 would have blown people’s minds. (I’d also imagine a hybrid GC and classic Wii controller being the defectors option to connect to the wiimote).
The Wii U would’ve sold and fit in a lot better competing with the 360 and PS3 from the start and again, have way stronger 3rd party support. Nintendo would not only be viewed as a home console powerhouse, but they’d still be in the home console business today.

Awesome list! You just reminded me how awesome and really magical the Gamecube is. I would also have to add Star Wars Rebel Assault II and Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess somewhere on the list. Great list and love your enthusiasm for these great games!

I loved Paper Mario TTYD, Tales of Symphonia(my top fave GameCube game ever), Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart Double Dash, Resident Evil 0 and Zelda Twilight Princess. Those are all I can think of off the top of my head.

Gamecube really feels like it was Nintendo at its peak innovation! This list brings back so many memories. Out of every console, the time with Gamecube might have been the most fun I've ever had with any console when taken as a whole. In fact, I think I'm going to play some Gamecube now! (I recently started a new town in Animal Crossing, and I want to play Wind Waker before Tears of the Kingdom is released)

I love Animal Crossing on the GameCube! It's the reason Wario's Woods and Balloon Fight are my favorite NES games.

I could relate Super Mario Sunshine to something in real life unlike the square platforms and square mountains of Super Mario 3D World. The GameCube was so underrated. It had the best games in my opinion.

Am I the only one who really loved Custom Robo? Everytime I see a GC list I NEVER see Custom Robo on it not even as an honorable mention.
Would have had Eternal Darkness, Custom Robo and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance in here but a part from that, this was a great list!

They need to bring back the Piklopedia and Treasure Hoard, I liked it how you could read about each enemy and treasure and even how to cook the enemies
I can't agree with you any more about Assault. I looooved that games multiplayer. Me and my cousins would play that for years on end. It's such a good game!
What if Nintendo made Mario Kart Triple Dash, where two people throw the items and one guy drives.
Then we'd think they'd gone fucking insane.
Resident evil 1 , Mario kart dd , Mario sunshine , Zelda wind waker and Twilight princess , resident evil 4 and code Veronica , NBA street vol 2 , Rogue squadron 2 , smash bros , Fzero gx , James Bond night fire , 1080 avalanche and all the Ssx and all the Tony Hawks too , i love GameCube 👍👍

Josh did you ever 100% Super Monkey Ball on GC? I beat that game in college and it's hard as shit to get some of the later levels. Insane jumps and you have to be a little insane to spend the time playing it over and over and over until you actually can beat it.

This is a really great list, so much that my only suggestion/honorable mention would have been Soul Calibur II. Even if you're not into traditional fighting games, I think it is more than worth it solely for the novelty of seeing Link in action outside of the Zelda and Smash Bros. games, and enjoying plenty of references to the character's history from his moveset to his weapon options. And who knows, you might like this game enough to try out other fighting games, and find a new genre to love like I did :D

my favorite party game is mario party 5, i love the atmoshphere so much and the game boards are so dreamy ^^ its also my first mario party game
That's a great one! I love the game board that is based in a cavern with pirates and treasure. It totally reminds me of The Goonies.

One big thing you forgot to mention about F-Zero GX is that it was Nintendo and Sega's first collaboration on a video game together. Otherwise, my thoughts are exactly the same with yours! Unlocking the AX cup at around 1 in the morning back in middle school was truly something for me to brag about back then!

Im just glad Start Fox Assault and Mario Party made it on the list, I loved Assault it feels how Star Fox should on gamecube to me, and the Mario Party series doesnt get enough love me and my brother have countless hours in the Mario Party series together
Melee has aged incredibly well :O im in shock, granted smash 64 maybe hasn't but melee most certainly has, from it's hardcore mechanics to it party mode its insane.
I started smiling so much when I saw him on the GameCube stage in battle mode on double dash not because of nostalgia just because one of the stages in that game is literally a big fucking gamecube
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is probably my favorite game on the gamecube. And honestly, when I was younger and playing it, it wasn't my favorite (Mario Party fan here lol). But looking back, I replayed the entire game of TTYD at least 10 times. I'm an amateur, I know. I actually sold my copy of TTYD a few years ago because I'm an idiot and needed money for school but man, I'm really considering on getting another copy just to play it again.

I'm in love with Animal Crossing too. The GameCube version I always want to play, but the new one is just as good in different ways.
I've also met some really nice people on New Leaf and now we are really close friends.

It has it's one or two flaws, but I could get passed them.
I loved the sequel too! It may have lost the charm of the Portrait ghosts, but It nailed almost everything else.

I loved your picks Josh, especially Pikmin 2. Even if the Wii version has added music to many of the caverns, you cant beat the innovative masterpiece that is the original sequel.
I know that when the Gamecube was still a current generation console Kirby Air Ride did have an online mode.
I played mario party games until 4, i feel like 4th got too "friendly", what happened with the good ol rage quit after playing grab bag on last turn? (mario party 1) xD. How were mario party games after 4?

skies of arcadia legends hands down personal favorite.
I feel melee has aged well just look at the competitive scene. Its one of, if not the biggest fighting game scenes with them still learning advanced tactics to this day.

Totally agree with this list. a few great games missing, but all i saw are good. It is really hard to make a small "top" list when it comes to any Nintendo console. Pikmin 2 is indeed the greatest Nintendo GameCube game ever. one of the best Nintendo titles period.
