Thanks for the nice note. It all works easily because the object, the mold and the copy are all made from paper clay, which has a bit of flex to it. So it has just enough give that it lets go so long as you use a powder to keep them from sticking. Fun stuff.
how would I make a mold FROM a paper mache, detailed sun sculpture. I am not sure if I can? I made a realistic sun for my son that is the size of a basketball. Can I seal it with epoxy fully and then use a silicone mold making kit? I haven't done paper mache since I was a kid, LOL. TY!!!
I have not ever made molds with silicone so can't say what I'd do with it. But making a mold with paper clay does not require that you coat it with epoxy. You can use some medium if you want to protect the surface of your sun, but it would only get powder on it...so you could brush it off with a paint brush. And paper clay only works with flat designs...so if it is round like a baseball, it wouldn't work. Just be sure to put powder on your clay and press the design into it to make the mold. Not the other way around. It shrinks about 10% in size when dry. Good luck!

Yes you can use corn starch...but if you save the rest of your clay...and it has corn starch in it, the cornstarch will mold. So be sure to either refrigerate or use the rest of the clay soon after you get corn starch in it. And talc not actually listed as carcinogenic.

This is great, but make sure you are using a talc-free body powder. Talc has been linked to certain types of cancer.

Tamin, I do not make my own clay. I use Creative Paperclay which is available in the US at art supply stores and craft stores and also at Walmart.

Those molds were not the same one. You are missing a thumbnail on the final one.
haha! I added the thumbnail with my tool. The mold was the same.
