The plate guy's idea was simply to beg the customers to buy his plates so that he could give 10% of their money to feed hungry people. If someone really wanted to feed someone hungry people then could use 100% for it rather than buying his plate.
I get what you're saying but they are here in shark tank to build a business. If he does charity along with it that's just a good cause and i've seen his artwork on plates and with frames on it. It looks beautiful. So it's a good business with a mindset that attracts people.

Why would people buy his plates so that he could use a minimal percent of that money for charity? People would rather donate that 100% money for charity.

It's just for this show. Look at the top left corner there is a logo of SONY. They really don't sign the cheque straightaway. They get the background check and then transfer the money with proper paperwork. The same goes for KBC. Amitabh bachchan signs the cheque/transfer the money digitally only for the show.
