- So this years Ultimate Adventure did not go as planned, with arriving late due to a speed sensor issue with the 4L60E transmission, to having the transmission pump seize on the start of day 4.
But in the end it was fixed and back for the last day of wheeling.

I'm so stoked to see that you're keeping the crawlerado around. I've been building and wheeling my 2008 Canyon and it brings me an unreasonable amount of joy to see you join the #355nation with possibly the most badass 355 in existence. We passed by each other at Hot Springs last month but you were in the bomber. Hopefully one day I'll see ya with the crawlerado on the trails!

Man I’m so excited for this years UA footage to drop! It’s all southeastern parks.
What I liked most of the footage from the UA ride was that all the trucks that I say were older homemade rigs and not a brand new Jeep with a lift kit tires and a winch or a brand new Ford Bronco with the same package done to it oh and I almost forgot new bumpers and maybe some rock sliders and some skid plates and lights everywhere all the rigs I saw were all different from the next and they were all probably built in someone's home garage or their backyard under the shade tree
Really wish there was more build on this. The couple short videos over on motor trend and the extras for your channel left me wanting more. I could see building a rig like this to go out into the Mountains here in western Montana to do some prospecting.

Im just jealous all these Colorados ending up on UA and my truck was one of the original axle swapped trucks lol 😂 maybe one of these years I’ll be able to get in now that I got my old Colorado back lol

That is a very nice looking rig. Even more impressive that it is close to the holy grail of tough off-roader and stable on the highway. It really looks like a great base for offroad camping all the way around...did I say it is nice looking 🙂

You can weld short pieces of square tube to the four corners on the cab and then slide a smaller square tube into each corner pocket and lift on them, see Matt’s off-road recovery big wrecker…

If you ever decide to “flip it” I would love a shot at it. I have a year of planing and part purchases to build Colorado like that style.

Sounds like the the front pump or t/conv.
So what was the real culprit of the engine/transmission locking up? Torque converter, something binding, starter area since you heard noice round starter area?

Ian, just curious to know what broke inside the transmission and how it happen, is it up-gradable? If you decide to do a trans. tare-down it would good to do a follow up.
Living in TN (I also do) do you ever go to windrock? I’ve went once in a rented sxs but I’d rather have a trail rig, so I’m asking what is your idea of a budget rig that works well there? It would also be a bonus if it could seat 4 or 5 people. Thanks
My Question is instead of fenders , have you thought of moving the tool boxes out more? Give tire coverage and more working space between.
I have but I want them to stay tight with the cab....worst thing that could happen on the trail is getting it jammed into a tree when off camber
I shared your method of welding the axles to the frame to set up your suspension in a FB M-715 group.
Never set up a suspension before and am swapping in a 07' SD D60 with a WFO radius kit into my M-715, haven't figured out my ...alot but it's tacked in..kinda.

Ian, i've been watching as most people have since xtreme 4x4, Just re-watched your CNC video and I love your Fastcut table but it's way for my 24 x 30 garage, for a guy just self-learning to build, what small table would you recommend? I was thinking of a 4x4 table.. Keep up the wheelin' and look forward to your videos all the time.
QUESTION: What is your general list of spare parts that you tale on Ultimate Adventure? I'm curious what kind of parts are typical... hubs, drive shafts, etc. Someday hopefully get my FJ40 picked! Thanks

Just curious Ian, what was the total cost with the parts and labor for this project build, being the cab was $150? It was awesome with everything that you have on it. What was the area in the transmission that actually broke, was it in the throttle body, being the engine wasn’t seized up? Awesome job with the suspension, not quite plain but simple!
Total for this truck was just over 20K all in...I thinknit was the pump, I have not torn it down yet

Sucks that it broke on you but at least you were able to make it ack for the last day. What actually let go in the transmission???
Will you tell us what went wrong with the tranny before you drove down there and how you fixed it. Wish you had more vids, I want to watch on for every day you actually work on it.

@@Skagitrover Nope...just a part failure.....this engine and trans were in a truck together when I bought them....I knew I should of rebuilt it myself....but figured since it was "known good" it would be fine....but nope

The "Colorado"... translation: the fully custom built rig.
Converter might have taken out the thrust bearing in the engine. Need to measure crankshaft play.
Engine is fine that is an issue that used to happen with the 400THM behind early versions of the LS
You going to do quick disconnects on heater and ac aswell?
Right now there is no heat or AC, but when I add it...yes I will have to
I'm really curious how the trans failed. Being an automatic, the pump had to have locked up. That's the only thing I can think that would "lock up" the engine solid.
Exactly...yeah from what I can tell without tearing it down....the pump vanes chewed into the housing locking it up

So...in hindsight, is there anything you would do differently drivetrain-wise(engine/trans) if you were to go back and build the truck again?

No it is an aftermarket add on that uses the 4xe port for on board air

I bet your oil pump took a junk you lost oil pressure
Based on the converter locking up...I believe it is the oil pump siezed

Yeah I swapped in an LS because of the custom chassis
@@BigTireGarage Excellent, mine is a standard cab, and the 5 cyl. feels plenty powerful especially here on Maui, BUT that LS would be a kick.
