Also the idea that there is beauty to be found in the progression of imperfection -- hence the highlighting of the mended break with golden/silver lacquer. "Kin" refers to the precious metal used to color the lacquer, but "tsugi" carries the meaning of succession or grafting onto, if anyone was curious.
The irony that the lyrics of the song are "I spent 10 years in a bit of chemical haze, and I miss the way that I felt. Nothing... " and I'm sat here crying, feeling everything. This band have been with me for 20 years. I've been through so much with them.
IOH was my jam in high school decades ago. This band grew up with me. I loved their entire discography and the growth and evolutions they've gone though. FOB is my band.
16 to 33 for me, this album came out when I was pregnant, I listened to it on repeat in the car and now this song soothes and helps my baby fall asleep ❤
Kintsugi is a Japanese art of repairing vases with gold to put it together. Basically, Pete is saying that he's broken yet perfect (even with being an addict), as what the art form suggests.
I've followed these dudes since I was a little snot nose 6th grader in 2005, can't believe how far these dudes have pushed the envelope. Some people won't like it, but these guys are the face of Rock and Roll in the modern Era.
Depression fucking sucks, it takes away one's ability to meet their social needs. But then, normal people who get to experience pain, are their situation any better? This song really nails a person's realization on recovery.
Oh man I was worried when I knew a new album was coming out because it might break my streak of liking every fall out boy song, but like... bro. Obviously that was never gonna happen
Glad I'm not the only one that likes every one of their songs! Now I have a whole new set to memorize all the lyrics of so this might keep me busy for a week or two 😅
i thought that with MANIA, initially, at least for a couple tracks. but since it released, every track has grown on me. I really appreciate that album more with retrospect. Despite its flaws (I wish the balancing/mixing was better, my common critique with their 2010s output), and even if its their weakest album, it's still damn good. and for people whose vibe wasn't their 2010's stuff, well FOB is back in full swing, with an album that synthesizes all their past sounds into one, while still bringing so much new to the table. love it. :))

I been a fan of FOB since I was 12 and I’m 30 now. They were my favorite band up to Folie a Deux. Despite all the things we’ve been through together my dear Fall Out Boy, you’re the only ones whose music can invoke such a deep yearning feeling of nostalgia inside of me. This song is doing that. This album is in general, but right now this song is the strongest in that regard. I feel moved, somehow in a way that only FOB can move me.
Just banger after banger, this is perfect, the "Nothing" line reminds me little bit of the Greatest Showman in the song "Never Enough". Absolutely love the theatrical sound its just brilliant.
Im a hip hop and hardcore punk dude but damn this song is just pure fire...i had it on repeat for days..happy upbeat tempo but them lyrics are so deep, sad and heartfelt❤ A real masterpiece😢
my favorite off the album. great album overall. went to see yall at Wrigley. as an adult finally had time off and could afford it. bucket list item for sure.
to be honest, there wasn't much that i was really able to attach to or glean from the past 3 full length albums. but this song especially, and this album really have hit me right where i needed.
something about the howling at the end is really sad. there's just something so empty about it, but there's that underlying desperation that comes through. it's such a small sound crying out to be noticed and it really breaks my heart. idk what but something about it sounding so desperate reminds me of certain phrases in their earlier work that are meant to have this pathetic air to them. but it ties into the band seeing themselves that way. like such an intense modesty that it turns into self depreciation. but the howling is that part of the words that have no bad intentions. whatever it is, it's making me more emotionally attached to their music 😭
It is actually one of Pete's kid howling. He said in a interview that the kid was going through a phase of howling and they ended up deciding to put it on the record.
MY 2ND FAV TRACK AFTER SO MUCH FOR STARDUST ITS SIMPLY SO GOOD … I SPENT 10 YEARS 10 YEARSSSS IN A CHEMICAL HAZE AND I, MISS THE WAYYY i felt, NOTHING, NOTHING else nanansnana
Dear Fallout boy, thankyou for all your fantastic art. Forever the soundtracks for my life over the last 2 decades. Feel forever indebted for all the music therapy, your musicality is off the charts, and always seem to completely parallel my current climate. Thankyou for all the hard work and being so honest and inspirational. Keep kicking ass gentlemen!
they're humble and genuinely care about the music creation process, so they put their hearts and souls into everything they make. Not every artist does that. They don't make anything they don't want to make.
oh my gooood this song makes me feel like going back to the time when i first heard of them back when i was in the 5th grade, still making sense of america's suitehearts, and tell that kid you will love this band, they will be a big part of your life, and you will see them when you're 27 y/o TT__TT
I see the howls as Pete telling his kids to embrace their wildness, that it’s okay to be feral and feel. I also see this song being about bipolar disorder. My mom has bipolar disorder and she spent a lot of her life terrified her kids would have it. In the most heartbreakingly beautiful way, the howls are, to me, the papa werewolf teaching the baby werewolf to embrace every part of themselves. This is just my interpretation, from a very personal lens. I love this song. So does my mom ❤️
When you happen to scroll along to favorite old memories, new ones are to be created once again! Fall out boy your my favorite childhood band! Thank you for every great memory created with your music! I can cherish them forever.
Tenía bastante de no disfrutar tanto un álbum completo, me cuesta decidir cual es mi favorita pero esta parece serlo al menos por ahora, algo identificado con la letra.
There’s nothing nothing better than this song for a chill drive or hang out. Why I haven’t heard it on my work’s radio but I have to listen to terrible music like country songs, Miley Cyrus’s flowers and every Taylor swift song on repeat is just baffling they would have less cranky employees if they would play this song and the rest of the songs on this album not like there’s swearing in it 😂 I certainly would have less headaches too
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold - a metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections. ❤️

The Kintsugi Kid (Ten Years) [Lyrics]:
I'm pretty sure as far as humans go
I am a hard, hard pill to swallow
And I know I'm not your intended dose
We're going low, low, low, low
So roll the highlights
The "got to high" life
Mix the
Low, low, low lights with the
Low, low, lowlifes
On the bright side
Got the wrong insides
Mix the
Low, low, low lights with the
Low, lowlifes
I spent
Ten years
Ten years in a bit of chemical haze
And I miss the way that I felt
Nothing
Nothing
Na, na-na-na, na-na-na-na
Nothing
Nothing
Na, na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
Passed my old street
The house I grew up in
It breaks your heart
But four of the Ramones are dead
I felt you at the beginning
But needed you at the end
We're going low, low, low, low
So roll the highlights
The "got to high" life
Mix the
Low, low, low lights with the
Low, low, lowlifes
On the bright side
Got the wrong insides
Mix the
Low, low, low lights with the

And I miss the way that I felt
Nothing
Nothing
Na, na-na-na, na-na-na-na
Nothing
Nothing
Na, na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
Stop me if you have heard this all before
Too many times after too much alcohol
Oh, but you don't know me anymore
We're going low, low, low, low
I spent
Ten years
Ten years in a bit of chemical haze
And I miss the way that I felt
Ten years
Ten years in a bit of chemical haze
And I miss the way that I felt
Nothing

I'm at a loss for words since this is such an amazing song
There's so much feeling behind the way he sings 'ten years'. I can feel it down to my soul.
first time listening to this song i was like “oh this is such a fun so- oh i want to cry”
I spent 15 years yearning for a Fall Out Boy album that sounded like IOH or FAD. I finally got my wish.
Man, me too. Me too.
This one’s gotta be my favorite one of the new record, running this on repeat
my favorite off the album. great album overall. went to see yall at Wrigley. as an adult finally had time off and could afford it. bucket list item for sure.
I seriously love this one. One of the faves. This and fake out ❤
Dude! Those are my favorites also! I have been listening to "4" and "11" on repeat
They both sound like end credits song to some movie
This song makes me emotional in the best way possible
One of my favorite songs
From "we're going down downn" to: "we're going low low low low", ladies and gentleman.... Fall Out Boy!!!
I love this more than I can say
Patrick you never disappoint, your voice is so powerful and perfect… this song makes me want to drive away into the sunset I love it 🥰
Save Rock and Roll just got dethroned by So Much for Stardust for best post-2008 Fall Out Boy album!

I kinda feel the same way, especially with the dog from the cover art being a moving ghost
It is actually one of Pete's kid howling. He said in a interview that the kid was going through a phase of howling and they ended up deciding to put it on the record.
Personally, felt it like a puppy learning to howl, like it was the spark of hope for the next/new gens.
Guess everyone interprets it differently.
The vibe is nostalgia for times that weren't actually all that great. I think we all feel a little of that now and then.
This is so true
I love how crisp and sweet Patrick’s voice is in this song
This entire album is bitter sweet and sad.... makes me worry and wonder what is going on....

I’m very glad this made in on the album! More to love!
Anyone here in December? Still can't get enough
Strong Folie aesthetic here, as if it was a calmer and reassuring continuation of "Disloyal order of water buffaloes"

Why does FOB make perfect songs, can someone explain it to me?
'cause they're too good to ordinary people like us understand
It's like they're observing my life and decide to drop an album about it
they're humble and genuinely care about the music creation process, so they put their hearts and souls into everything they make. Not every artist does that. They don't make anything they don't want to make.
This brings me back to the take over the breaks over era. You guys made my teenage years the best ever when i was 15. Now going 30. Keep rocking! 🤘🏻

Pete’s daughter howling at the end in her goofy little phase honestly completes the emotion in this song in such an unexplainable way.
