    Will these modules retain their last-programmed settings onboard, or do they need programming at every power up?

      I don't think there is any on-board memory, and the AD module does what it's told. So you'll need to reprogram the frequency on power-up. However, the Arduino has flash memory (obviously), so it can reprogram the AD after a power cycle.

      Also i have bought a AD9851 from amazon and its output frequency is showing to be 59 MHz not changing according to my code.
