I found it easyer to line up the spider on the coil by putting the coil in the motor then put your shims in and pull up the coil till its at the proper hight that you need then slide the spider on flat on all sides its works grate for me I just wanted to throw that out there but grate work man!

When you solder the leads and the voice coil is it just like soldering any other wire? And then trim the extra or is there. Special way to solder those two together!

when doing the ca glue under the cone you don't have to use the "drip" method. i use a bic pen (without the insides) taped to my bottle to extend the reach and put the glue where i need it with almost pinpoint accuracy. another tip i learned from Ric

Nope, not Sundown. They are originals except the cone is a more shallow version, same surround. Some of the spiders I have are actually from the 2005 woofers. The guy I got them from had dozens of spare parts to rebuild them as needed. There are soft spiders I am using though as they were used on the stock woofers. When rebuilding for SPL, he was using stiff spiders and thats what the old recone I showed uses. But they are too stiff so I went back to stock spiders.

I don't understand from watching if the tinsel lead wiring originates from the spider or was it just packaged that way and removed to be fed through the speaker cone. my speaker that i'm working on has theleads from the terminals to the back of the cone and then to the voice coil.

doing the math on my custom build it looks as if i might have to put the coil outside the motor a bit more ...lol
my coil is 71mm long or 2.8" of winding .
my top plate thickness is 10mm
the coil over the gap should be around 30mm.
leaving me 40 mm of xmax
i have a tripple stack magnet
gap depth on the motor is 70mm
i just hope it wont bottom out
i should have 30mm of coil inside the motor and 30mm outside the motor
so i will have im guessing 40mm inward movement until it bottoms out ?

If the opportunity ever arises, I might. But, the process is the same. The dust cap is just larger to cover the entire cone. So the only thing to do different is when you glue down the dust cap, you just have a larger dust cap.

    • @JasonWW2000

Not really. You'd need to change the entire magnet/motor assembly. That's the main part. Better to use a different subwoofer that already has a bigger coil/former.

Anyone help me with this with what i'm doing wrong? I'm reconing my 2013 Kicker L7 dual 4ohm overhung voice coil with a new coil.Figures are 22mm gap height, coil height is 40mm (11-20=9) which gives me 9mm coil over gap.Xmax=31mm (40-9=31).But the kicker manual specs says Xmax=14.1mm.What am i doing wrong to get 9mm instead of 14.1mm?

Actual overhung is not recommended as the coil can come out of the gap and it can be less efficient. The method I use here is pretty straight forward. This is what is called "Even hung" but some people do call it overhung since half the coil is above the gap. I am pretty much lining up the center of the coil windings to the center of the gap. You can play around with your own settings to see if you have better performance but you would essential measure with the same methods.

You need to learn your terminology before you make videos. The "gap" is the distance between the Center pole and the magnet where the voice coil is placed. You are talking about the voice coil depth. The frame is actually called " basket". STOP touching the dam voice coil with your bare hands, the oil from your grubby hands!!! Stay in school Poindexter!!!
