- The Amtrak Auto Train offers non-stop daily train service for passengers and their vehicles from Sanford, Florida -- which is located about 30 minutes north of Orlando -- to Lorton, Virginia -- which is located about 40 minutes south of Washington, D.C., and vice versa.
In this video, we’ll provide an overview of our Summer 2021 trip, when we took the Amtrak Auto Train from the Orlando, Florida area to the Washington, D.C. area and spent our time reading, watching movies and TV shows, playing video games on our Nintendo Switches, researching future cruises, and -- of course -- sleeping overnight.

Very thorough and helpful. I live 45 minutes from Orlando but telework for a Maryland company. This will help when I travel back for check-ins!
I loved the idea of bring your own pillow. We are going this coming August from Fl. to VA.. Great video!
Hope you enjoy your trip!
Thanks for this info. We live in Orlando but are from Baltimore. We always wanted to try this, but didn't know what to expect. Next time we go, it sure will be better than traveling 95.
So glad you enjoyed the video! And hope you enjoy your trip if/when you give it a try!
Oh god yeah. 95 is an unmitigated disaster.
Wow this is best video so far...
Great info!! Thanks so much.
Any routes from Florida going west towards colorado?
So im going soon to disney on this train, and im planing on bringing my tablet and nintendo- 0:43
thanks for the video. I looked into this in the past (pre-c0vid) but found it not much cheaper than flying and renting a car. Now with rental car fees going out of sight- it may be more affordable.
How long does someone have to wait to get their vehicle at the station?
If you have Priority Offloading, your vehicle will be one of the first 30 vehicles offloaded. For everybody else, it depends on too many factors to be able to give a reasonable estimate. Check-in for the next departure starts at 12:30 pm, so it's reasonable to think that you'll have your vehicle before that time if everything is running smoothly and there are no delays arriving or offloading.
@@TheJellyBeans Okay, thanks for getting back to me with the info. 🙂
It will be our first time going this route from Lorton to near Orlando, so we then can drive from there to the Carnival Port in Miami.
Any tips, tricks we should know? Any help is much appreciated. And how is the food on the train? We will be doing the Coach Option I believe.
Biggest tip is you can bring your own food on the train! :) We grabbed some food before heading to the station and then enjoyed our meal on the train. Jellybean had some snacks on the train and they were fine.
If im moving from state can i take my stuffs inside the car and use this service ?
As long as everything fits in your vehicle and you follow the vehicle check-in requirements, you should be fine: www.amtrak.com/route-content/auto-train-boarding-and-vehicle-requirements.html
love your video! question for ya, i'll be taking the autotrain from lorton to orlando in january and i was wondering if they have wifi on board?? hoping i can watch some netflix on my trip haha
They do have Wi-Fi, but the signal is not great and can be non-existent at times. We recommend downloading some movies/shows to your device just to be on the safe side.
If traveling alone, what is the chances of a stranger sleeping next to you in coach.
Probably about 50/50, but it really depends on how many people are traveling on the train for your particular date/time.
Does it cost extra to take the auto train or is it included with the ticket price
The price is only included after you have selected the type of vehicle you are taking with you. Since they charge different prices for different vehicles, you first select your train ticket, then select your vehicle to see the total price.
@@TheJellyBeans it only
Gives me the option to purchase the ticket do I have to buy that first?
You will need to select Coach or Private Room, then select your seat or room type, then Add to Cart. From there, you will "Continue" and select your vehicle type. You shouldn't have to purchase anything (or enter payment info) until you've selected your vehicle type.
@@qtsqprod.8717 Hmmm.... I wonder if you are not on the auto train booking page. Try this link: www.amtrak.com/auto-train-experience
Great video. Surprised there are no USB outlets. Even if you do not purchase a sleeper room are you still able to purchase a dinner in the dining car?
According to Amtrak, the Traditional Dining experience is reserved for passengers who have a private room: www.amtrak.com/dining-car
On some routes that has changed coach passengers can purchase meals from the dinning car pending availability. It costs $25 for Breakfast, $35 fir Lunch, and $45 for dinner. Coach passengers can also purchase food and drinks for the Amtrak cafe a lot cheaper or they can bring any food and non alcoholic beverage on the train and consume it at your coach seat or observation car (if the train has one).
How much? Can u do this on west coast too???
this train is the only option on Amtrak for towing vehicles
This is great! I live 30 min from Lorton and have a vacation home in Orlando, this service will be immensely helpful!
So is there a fee for the vehicle or is it included in the cost of the ticket?
There is a fee for the vehicle and it depends on the type of vehicle. The vehicle is an additional fee because you could just take the train without bringing a vehicle.
How much did you pay for your car to go on the auto train?
We have an "extended vehicle" (minivan) and it cost an additional $300 to take it on the auto train.
There is no auto train that goes from Washington DC to Orlando
The Amtrak Auto Train goes from Lorton, VA (just outside DC) to Sanford, FL (just outside Orlando). Both Amtrak and we use DC and Orlando as the cities because most people have no idea where Lorton and Sanford are. www.amtrak.com/auto-train
