I was on antidepressants for about a year, and I 100% thought I would be on them for the rest of my life because I had struggled with anxiety and depression for so long, but being over the hump of recovery has done more for my mental health than any pill I was on. Pills can be so so helpful, but it can also be part of the “treat the symptom not the disease” society we live in.
Patience :) you will have more followers soon. You are making so much sense and are a good source of knowledge and inspiration for people with disordered eating. Thank you 💗
Did you relaose at all during your "all in" recovery? Do you think this has an effect on overshoot, metabolic regulation and appetite regulation? I feel like everytime I relapse, which has been pretty often, I gain eveb more weight and go through extreme hunger over again. I have gotten my period back though even with the frequent relapses.
I personally did not but please keep in mind that it was 11 years of trying to recover before I finally went all in so I had had my fair share of relapses. Keep in mind that there is more to recovery than your period being back! You gotta still work on neural re-wiring and nutritionally rehabilitating. Have you thought about working with someone? That can help prevent these reoccurring relapses.
Hi Chlo. I have a question for you please. I have long history of ED and several episodes of HA. I got my period back after about 3 yrs amenorrhoea last May. All I did was eat more (NOT ALL IN), gain a LOT of weight and only walking. I was very surprised to get it back as I’m now 48yrs. I’ve had regular periods since then. But 2 weeks ago I decided to try to loose my overshoot weight and did a 14 day stretch of 65 min cardio ( quite intense). I did eat more as I was more hungry but now my period is 1 week late. Yes it could be peri menopausal but it seems more than a coincidence. I’ve stopped the exercise except walking now as I now value my health more but I’m concerned that I’ve messed up with the exercise and set myself back. I’m hoping that as I stopped the exercise quite quickly my period will come back again. In my research I’ve learnt that the hormones released during intense exercise can suppress the hypothalamus in the absence of restriction and some people are more genetically predisposed to this which , from my history of several episodes of HA, I think I am. Do you think my period will come back shortly. I really hope so as I do have slightly low bone density for my age. Thank you in advance
I experienced this too. I tried to lose my overshoot a few times and I do lose 15-20 lbs but lose my cycle and go through extreme hunger and recovery exhaustion again end up gaining some of the weight back and then menstruating again. I want to lose my overshoot so bad but my body reacts so poorly.
@@victoriaevans2442 Maybe it’s not overshoot weight. I’m beginning to think that the weight I gained is not overshoot weight but my new set point as it just will not change. I think what this has done is made me realise that if I want to be healthy i may have to accept this weight
@@sarahbartlett9870 I think it may be overshoot because I'm still retaining a lot of water and experiencing edema. My body also looks very "odd" still, like the weight hasn't settled. But, the odd thing is the majority of my clothes still fit even with 50+ lbs on I am stilling fitting into xs clothes. It's so confusing. But, if it's not overshoot I don't think I could accept myself at an overweight size. I know I would have to lose some to feel comfortable in my life unfortunately.
It sounds like you are very aware of everything and are doing the right thing to get your period back. Cardio is one of the worst offenders to hormones, unfortunately. I would give your body plenty of rest to get your hormones back on track. And yes, accepting that your body wants to be a certain weight is so important. Having a healthy metabolism is way more important than looking a certain way.
I am a Cello student, have done it professionally, and practice 4h or more a day. For this reason I must exercise because of my spine. I have a history of very bad muscle and spine ilnesses in my closest family, which is said by doctor if exercised regulary I can avoid. I got HA through my ED which did not include overexercising. I am already eating a lot and can say I am very much mentally healed from anorexia as well. Does anyone think if I start eating even more even if I have to force fed myself I can still get my period back with this exercise. It is very important to me since because of my instrument practicing I get very tight shoulders and it also affects my playing. Exercise keeps those off :(
So I'm sure there are ways for you to strengthen your back without having to do an hour long intense workout. Do some strengthening but I would be mindful of going overboard.
Even if you are in the 'overweight' category on the BS BMI scale, you aren't giving your body what it needs. If your body is starved of proper care, recovery is the way to go! You can be classed as "overweight" by a doctor and still be undernourished, fatigued, weakened, obsessive and ILL. You are valid. You deserve to recover. 🌈🧁💜
Hi chio..do you help guys? Also I was prescribed 50 000 of vitamin d by my doctor because it was low at 19 but when I try and supplement with it I run into side affects. Why is this?
While the high fat intake is great for hormones without the carbs present it will be very difficult to find hormonal balance. The body needs each macronutrient, not good to restrict yourself of any.
Men can 100% suffer from a damaged metabolism. It is actually quite common, especially in the athletic world because there is a lot of overtraining happening. I have worked with a couple men but I really have focused on helping women.
@@flowwithchlo thank you so much... do you know of any resources for men/ have suggestions on how they can approach it? I have been finding you super helpful for my personal journey so thank you for that as well xo

Did you take any supplements in recovery i.e. digestive enzymes,HCL,probiotics.
nope. I am not a supplement fan. Just good old food for me :)

I'm scared of recovery bc i am already overweight.

You are valid.
You deserve to recover. 🌈🧁💜
No matter what size your body, you need good food. Restoring your metabolism is critical and you can't do that while underrating.

Do you think the keto diet may help getting your period back by eating lots of fat?
While the high fat intake is great for hormones without the carbs present it will be very difficult to find hormonal balance. The body needs each macronutrient, not good to restrict yourself of any.
Have you ever worked with men with damaged metabolisms/ can men experience this like women? Maybe a silly question
