This has to be the greatest generations of American players of all time, in that World Cup they also give us an amazing match against Germany.
this team and the current USA (though with crap manager) are some of the most talented players they ever have.

That was a very strong Portugal side. McBride was a phenom in the air. Good quality across the board for US.

I can still remember the commentator's quote right after USA's third goal ..
I remember my impression about 1st half of this game. I was really surprised because of USA's speed. I never thought America can play like here. Goal#3 perfect. Future of football I thought. 2nd half brought me back to Earth. I dont understand the reason but when someone asks me about the best game I saw, my answer 1st half of USA Portugal 2002.

I believe that is Jack Edwards who did the commentary here. But good luck having him doing World Cup games again as he's the dedicated commentator for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League.

That’s Bruins legendary announcer Jack Edwards who recently retired due to his speech impairment that lowered the quality of his calls- he’s got quite the reputation around the NHL as being biased because of how passionate he is for the Bruins- but it’s that emotion that always made him a great broadcaster. Its really cool to see him calling soccer games too because he will be sorely missed next year

This was supposed to be the greatest Portuguese team of all time. And they crashed out against the US and South Korea at the group stage. Talk about underperforming.

A wonderful team with great players but losing matches in a disappointing manner ..
Two years later they failed to win the euro 2004 losing not once but twice against Greece ..
They would have been better in 1998 when Figo and Rui Costa were at their physical prime, somehow they managed to mess up qualification losing to an average German side.
the South Korea game was robbed. everybody knows it.
@@ronniep9272 It was a very old German side that did horribly at the World Cup and then would completely collapse right after.
@@ThrE3-GeS South Korea didn't start benefitting from wrong and controversial calls until after the group stage. Portugal lost the opening game to the US and then even lost to South Korea.
Really hope you do more of USA in the 02 World Cup

4K didn’t exist at that point, I think this was the first major event filmed in 1080i, and I think the HD feeds were only available in Korea and Japan (this is of course the Korean feed with American commentary over it)

Pauleta was great lol, this match portugal were just all over the place, even the goalkeeper which is considered the best Portuguese keeper ever had one of the worst matches of his career here

Pauleta was amazing. Portugal didn't have "that killer edge" because they never won anything. You'll find most teams who never won anything on the international level never have "the killer edge". It's a process to be confident on the international stage, and that's it.
