    For anyone discovering this video now in 2022, Jeremy’s trick for step length at 11:20 in the vid is for the tape track, but it’s also sustain for notes and chords on the synth channels. If you want sustained chords, you can hold the step and hit your chord real quick to enter it and then hold the step and hit the next step you want the sustain to release on. These vids are life savers! Just got my OP-Z today.

    it's the best time to be a OPZ owner! I got the gist of the device by myself but these videos really help me go granular on this little thing. the invisible steps when setting a higher bar count and the fact that the p-locks are still on their own 1 bar grid completely escaped me.

    This video is as good as any to post this...
    The RUclips algorithm decided I needed to know about your OP-1 videos and in the space of less than a week from that discovery I now have an OP-1 and OP-Z in my hands and 2x POs (33 & 35) on the way.
    RIP my wallet but thanks for inspiring me to finally make the transition from instrumentalist to EDM producer.
    Your videos are amazingly helpful and your OP-1 albums are an inspiration.

    my favorite part is that I was gonna make a stupid comment asking what's on that cheeky coaster in the bottom right, but I decided to watch the whole video first, and was rewarded with an uncropped view of the desk in the end card

    Amazing video as usual. The sequencer and the step components are what making the OP-Z so powerful. I’ve been using it a sequencer to trigger Ableton resulting in some crazy odd metered tracks. I have to start using the automation more. Thanks.

    Just got an OP-Z about a week ago and love it. I have watched almost every RUclips video available on this device and I gotta say I haven’t seen anyone who can make this thing sing like you can, that techno set was amazing... excellent work. Love these videos dude keep em coming. Also thank you for making videos using the iPad. I don’t understand why more people don’t use a screen.... especially for tutorials. I find the tutorials with out use of a screen make learning difficult so thanks again for being one of the few guys out there doing it!

    Regarding increasing the step length (6.00), another limitation is that track polyphony is defined as polyphony PER STEP. So the chord track only allows 4 note polyphony PER STEP. So if you increase step length, you may run into issues where polyphony gets cut off.

    If only they made a sequencer like this in a Beatstep Pro style unit. I'd be all over it! I can't get into the teeny tiny buttons but the features are awesome.

    I just looked up to try to remember the drum machine you used during your "Flailing" videos. and here I see you've uploaded a new video just 15 minutes prior. Guess I'm kicking back for 13 minutes.

    Nice vid with great overview. Just missed: Sequencing/editing Velocity with trig+Pitch Bend, Nudging microsteps with trig+(-/+), Length with trig+endpoint, Nudging sequence with trig+(-/+) and all the copyimg of seq, settings, tracks with p+shift.

    Hi Jeremy - love the vids as always. If i may make a quick helpful suggestion (apologies if you already did this) - do your viewers know that the knobs aren’t standard - it looks like you either ordered them separately or 3d printed them. thanks for all the great content :)

    but then how do you make longer songs and patterns when you don't have control of the trigs as you increase the step length? like a 4 bar chord progression with a melody on top. do you work around this? as in making several patterns to switch between or do you know of a more ergonomic method?

    I would love a final video where you discuss what you think the op-z is good for from your point of view (your music). Could you do the same tracks you do with the op-1 alone ? to what extent ?
    I watched so many op-1 and op-z youtube videos that i think i could use right away even if I have never had any. I noticed that most songs op-1 songs sound low-fi or lower quality in general comparend to the very clean sound of the op-z. Is this a thing or am I wrong ?
    I think i prefer the op-1 more, because i like the keys, and i like the playful workflow of overdubbing / sampling / resampling instead of just “cold” sequencing. I wanted to buy it as soon as it became available again, but i just noticed the 40% price increase today :(

    Oh boy, this is really cool! I’ve had one for three months now and I’m still trying to come to terms with the sequencer. I must have done something with one track after lengthening the step length, because now even after clearing the pattern, I still have ghost notes left over. I hold down the track key and see steps with green lights on them, but I can’t seem to make them go away. It’s a mystery to me. I’m hitting up a user forum for answers, because I am baffled. If anyone knows a good one, please reply.

    Does parameter locking interpolate in between steps ?
    great series though!

    how do you sequence say 64 steps when the rate reduces as you do so? i mean how do you control the 16th notes of a hihat as you increase the step length? anyone know this?

    Powerful sequencer that has 16 steps only..hm...yes, you can make the pattern longer but you'll loose the resolution...looks Volcaish. The only a thing that makes this device still considerable for me is that it can store 160 patterns.

    I thought the tracks were only 2-note polyphony...? Excepting the Chord track, which is 4.

    • @Lukas-wn5cx

      Funny enough you can fully live play while the sequence is running, gives you double the polyphony!

    • @ThatCrookedMind
      @ThatCrookedMind 5 лет назад

      Melody track has 3 note polyphony, chord has 4, everything else is 2

    • @blazrodic
      @blazrodic 3 года назад

      You can change the chord track polyphony to 6 by changing the settings file entry to "generous" (and risk note stealing).

  • @poppybrosjunior

    So once you go beyond 16 steps you lose individual step access in terms of parameter locking, etc? Do people find that to be a drawback?

    Not first \o/ The OP-Z seems like a tough synth to learn without an Ipad. Circuit took me a while to learn but this seems even harder !

    • @tsuriranpu
      @tsuriranpu 5 лет назад +1

      But circuit is not that hard tho? I think this will be a LOT harder..

    • @Yattix
      @Yattix 5 лет назад +1

      It really isn't. I thought that before getting one, and I was making patterns just through guessing within the first couple of minutes. The only "tough" part is learning what the different colour LEDs mean on different pages of parameters, but there's not that many. I certainly wouldn't let the perceived learning curve put you off getting one if you like the way it sounds and think it would fit in your workflow.

    Features looks very cool but personnaly I think this OPZ is ugly as hell and buttons looks like the cheapest I have seen. The idea to use an Ipad for screen is dope, more hardware should do the same.
