Might have missed this…. Why are cruise missiles at 5000ft?!? More like 50ft rl. Which means S400 gets about 20 miles or approx 3 minutes to react.
The ENTIRE PURPOSE of the Tomahawks is to do NOE...Nap Of the Earth terrrain following at the lowest altitude possible.

Good job and great video. It’s a shame though that DCS can’t model actual EW warfare (nor could they since even 30 year old capabilities are still classified). One would never attack a site like this without EW support. With it, it’s quite manageable with a good plan. EW significantly degrades the range at which targets can be Engagaed AND creates even more false contacts. It wouldn’t see 72 TALDS and 20 missles 150 miles out. If would see static or nothing until -at a range much closer than it has in a “clean environment”, it sees hundreds of contacts approaching quickly. Wouldn’t need to launch many TALDS. I’m reality, the TALDS arent designed to be targets to overwhelm. They are designed to “stimulate” the air defense system to turn on and track so it can be located, fixed and either destroyed with JSOW, JASM low observable munitions or suppressed with HARMS.

Well there is no reason why DCS couldn't model EW it would be an estimate as are many thing are already in the game I doubt the coding would be that hard.
I think the TALDs were so bunched up (except for Grump's lovely spread) that a single Growler took out the lot of them. The planning was exceptional, execution was classic GR. Another fun video, well done.
The mission failed, but the banter won the day
Russia has overlapping SAM coverage right now in Ukraine. S400/S300 etc. They haven't provided much protection against cruise missles and other aircraft. There's no way Russian troops would be this capable. Apparently Ukraine targets the radar systems and not the launchers. I like these simulations in terms of showing what Russian crews could do when trained under NATO standard. Secondly, Russian SAMS have shot down their own jets and SAM launchers. Literally shot themselves. Video on here of it.
It's the typical russian overselling of the capabillities. The Moskva's S-300 search radar wasn't able to detect the two incoming missiles at all, as was evident from the tracking radar's antenna still being in the off-position when the power failed. The first thing the crew will have known about being under attack was when the first missile went *Bang!*

I've got a fail-proof strategy for an aircraft to get right up to an s-400 system, but it involves several hundred miles of taxiing, and looking at GR's previous history of that kind of thing, it's probably not a go-er.
Maybe Matrix can get in there, like only an RAF pilot could, only climbing when he has to put his wheels down.

9:45 Not entirely true. Only US Navy have retired their Legacy Hornet fleet. Legacy Hornets are still being used by the USMC. They are gonna upgrade and keep them till around 2030 in Service!

Cap, in regards to the US still using Legacy Hornets anymore; the USN strictly uses all Super Hornets and F-35s, but there are still a handful of USMC squadrons flying Legacy Hornets. However they are being replaced by F-35s as well.

And for the record, there are still Legacy Hornets in the US inventory. Thr Marine Corps has refused to get Super Bugs, instead waiting to eventually switch all their Hornet squadrons for Fz35s.

Modern day WWII style SAS raid.
Make an S400 site with its ground defenses in Arma 3. Fly either a Huey or C-130 (in DCS) as close to the S400 as you can and either land or airdrop a few vehicles. However far you are from the site in DCS is how far your insertion point is in Arma. Make your way there on the ground, demo the site, and then try to extract.

There would be short an medium range systems spread out in the area between the site and the coast.
That isnt really true. Those systems cost a lot, and need to be used to defend specific potential targets.

Maybe try again but with the Tomahawks coming from different directions? Truthfully, we would use low observable munitions like the JASM-ER for this I think. Far less time to engage. But, you use what you got.
Could have used JSOWs if you had f-35s or EW support to get the f-18s close.

As a USAF EW specialist, you are not using USAF, RAF, or NATO tactics. You start with F18 Growlers
and russian EW would have neutralized all your EW

@@AB-ng7go Jamming doesn't neutralize EW. And jamming in itself creates a beacon for missiles to switch to home-on-jam.
An EA-6B was almost shot down at a training range by a F-14 Tomcat because they wanted to test the AIM-54 Phoenix on two drones while being radar jammed. The first Phoenix tracked the drone despite jamming so it worked fine. The second Phoenix detected the source of the jamming and instead of heading for the second target drone, it automatically switched to home-on-jam and started heading towards the EA-6B. They had to shut down the jammer and fly away from the area because even the inert missile would have crashed into the aircraft at supersonic speed and destroyed it.
Cap, I enjoy the videos you guys (and gal, Kortana!...lol) put out and would like to see if ya'll would redo a video from a while back. The video was about the movie, "Red Dawn", which I watched as a kid. I believe that the mission debrief was considered 50/50 because The Wolverines were evacuated but the other parameters of the mission wasn't successful. Could your Team redo that mission and see if we could defeat the Reds and regain our country? Thanks a bunch!
In real life scenario,they can only shoot down slow moving UAVs (like bayraktars). They couldn't defend their ship moskhva,snake island or the recent arms depot at Kherson struck by HIMARS.

They were only just around a week ago for the hornets. Idk if the f-14 had them before this.
@@Darthybuddy F14 has had them but they don't work great (or at least they didn't the last time I used them) only some air defenses actually interact with it and ai aircraft ignore them entirely.

Possible method to defeat S400: 1980s/1990s SLBM targeting all 10 warheads to drop at 45 mile increments in a straight line to the S400s beginning at 400 miles out.
Obviously you could also Minuteman it from the Nevada desert. But did they even make ballistic missiles with conventional payloads? Because if they did those would really be a viable option.
I'm sure there's a flaw in my logic somewhere, but if AWACS can guide missiles to their target, why not arm AWACS with some missiles of its own?

What about the US AGM-158 JASSM against the S 400? It's a super stealthy long range cruise missile and the results would be interesting especially with multiple launched.
I don't think JASSM is in the game. Eagle Dynamics needs to get it in the game because beyond the F-22, F-35, and hypersonics, there isn't much else in the game that stands a chance against it.

If they would have went in at the same time as the Tomahawks and decoys they would've stood a MUCH better chance running in the way they did at the end instead of waiting for everything to be destroyed freeing up the radar's to focus solely on them a radar that can only target so many incoming ordinance/bogies. So yeah it would absolutely have helped to go in low with The Hornet's while the S-400 & or Pantsir IADS are tied up defending themselves from decoys and Tomahawks😆✌
@@Anarchy_420 The point was to decoy away from the Tomahawks, not have them engaged. If they are targeted, the mission is over. Yes, with the real F18's targetable also, there would have been an improved chance. But it wouldnt be much.

Yeah without ECM it is hard to get the simulation to actually work properly, but you could have close by having some F-35 near by with harms to take out the radars when the sites stared getting busy with the decoys. You have already proven they can get nice and close without being fired upon so they would be the ones to take the kill shot.
HARM is not a problem for them tor pantsir will shoot down any kind of anti radar missile
@@MICLakVER as they have proved in other simulations, stealth aircraft are capable of getting close enough to where anti-missile defenses do not work.

What are S400s stats. I seen they can hit ballistic missiles up to Mach 14. When I heard that I knew right away it was propaganda! The 40N6 missile goes Mach 3.6. The other lesser range are 3.5. Range is 350km-400km for the 40N6, which is probably 300km on a fantastic day.
