Some of you guys are missing the point of this. Its meant to be a slim all in one (PS, xbox, ps4 etc) that fits under your monitor. Those that are talking about speakers, amps and whatnot.....how much room do you have on your desks? Will that setup work flawlessly with your pc/xbox/ps4. Will it all fit under your monitor? Its expensive but it fits my needs for sure due to space limitations.
That brushed aluminium finish on the top looks 👌 I actually had a chance to heat it work it at IFA this year, and yes, it's REALLY loud for its form factor!
+Pingurrr S I would recommend NOT purchasing audio products from Logitech. For ~$50 I would recommend headphones, such as the Phillips SHP9500. The Logitech system has a weak and muddy sound, and really isn't worthwhile. If you have your heart set on speakers, I would personally save up ~$100-120 for a pair of Micca PB42X's. These are powered speakers, so they don't need an external amplifier, and their sound quality will be far beyond any Logitech offering. Cheers!
Pingurrr S Well, I've never heard of them before, but from the product page the 2.1 system seems to be similar to some 'meh' Logitech speakers...I would still recommend the Phillips headphones or Micca speakers.
Unless I'm mistaken that's just a 75ohm standard sub cable and, not a proprietary cable. You could even use one of the colours of a component cable and it would be fine.
He makes mistakes like that all the time. Just look for them in his more current videos. I actually find it hard to watch him, because of those. Makes one cringe.
Damn, that price. The Subwoofer connection looks like a standard phono cable so that's a plus at the very least. I suppose anyone with any interest should get monitors or if into cinema, an av receiver and speakers. :))
"The Subwoofer connection looks like a standard phono cable so that's a plus at the very least." It's not, that just makes a shit sub even more shit due to getting an entirely wrong signal. Also, I'm not going to get studio monitors if I'm playing games or listening to music, that's nonsense.
i've had the Katana for couple of years now, still performing strong, and nothing on the market fits in my set up like it and sounds this good at the same time.
a little off topic, but the quality of the review videos from Hardware Canucks are second to none. Without a doubt the best tech reviewers on the net and you guys deserve 10 times the subscribers you have! keep up the great work guys.
I've just bought this because I have no space for normal speakers and I also love the design and hopefully the sound because every viewer has been very positive about the sound quality.
Damn it's an awesome system! I love that it has integrated bluetooth and everything. It's awesome for a gaming setup AND an office. I'll definitely add this item to my wishlist.
Yes, the subwoofer cable terminates to a standard RCA/phono to be plugged into the main unit. Yes the other end is hardwired directly into the subwoofer. Does this make it "proprietary", No. But it does make it much more difficult to replace the cable when it eventually becomes damaged.
I would gladly pay $300 for this, as the quality of the sound makes it feel like it should cost around $400-500, and this would be a great piece of audio kit for any serious gamer.
Zachary Goterch you can get better audio quality and a lot better soundstage for the same or less money if you buy something that doesent have gaming in the name
I changed all my peripherals from Razer/Corsair to Sound BlasterX and bought the Katana for my living room and ran a longer RCA cable for the sub to behind the seating. Creative is dominating the budget audio market. I’ve got the Kratos S5 speakers on my gaming pc and they are phenomenal. The voice morph only works with their headsets though.
96 thousand MegaHertz? Are you sure? Pretty sure it's 96kHz or 96 thousand hertz. Otherwise a great video! I personally prefer my Klipsch rp-150m's and using a more "home theatre" style set-up. If anything I would switch over to JBL or Yamaha for studio monitors. The katana seems great, but I lost faith in Creative over buggy software (my sound card was a pain in the butt) and sub-par performance when compared to other options like monitors/speakers.
I've been eyeing a Yamaha speaker system for black Friday but now seeing this I'm definitely going to look into this. The compact and clean design and the feature set really has me interested.
Any Gamer (or anyone else) who cares for the best Audioquality possible, will buy Hifi-/Studio headphones. Period. Almost EVERYTHING that produces Audio, and has a "Gaming" Label on it, can be considered trash. Some exceptiosn: Qpad QH 85/90 Headsets, and Kingston HyperX Cloud.
@darkseth88 clearly, but someone like who has a triple monitor setup need something for when we don't feel like putting on headphones / someone else will be listening too
Wrong, this is great for web browsing and minor music/gaming/movies while the serious sound would be handled by high quality headphones. BTW, I am still rocking the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 for my main PC and the Logitech Z-680 on my TV.
Holy god that sounds amazing. In my (very small) bedroom I have a 280 watt 10 inch boston sub paired with the two channel 6.5 inch bookshelf speakers from ventunari's that have 1 inch tweeters on them, all of which running off a 5 channel JVC 100 watt amp (which I plan on replacing that, buying more speakers for surround, or both). I may get one of these to either complement that setup, or even replace it. Though I will say that I will always go with 7.1 or at least 5.1 surround for a more immersive experience, but for raw sound quality the Katana may become my go-to.
Got the Edifier R2000DB and man that thing is great. I think this SB Katana with it's 300$ price tag will be blown away by the Edifiers. I was truly impressed with their sound. Even without a Sub they deliver a powerful and punchy bass.
I've always loved Creative and i'm stoked about this product. Definitely going to be purchasing this in the future. Also I gotta say I love the filming style of your videos, top notch! Keep it up!
the software is still technically in beta mode and will eventually work well... just like using an external capture card over usb having FHD audio over usb can cause software to slow down as well as having color options etc
It really pisses me off that they mention "#SetupGoals" on the product page of this item, but nowhere do they specify its measurements... How am I supposed to buy a monitor riser which fits its measurements or know if my current one does...
Dude, your videos are always amazing! No exeption with this one, but... your effects in this video are better. Improvement is visible. Killer intro!!! Light effects are BADASS!!! Keep up the great work! LOVE IT!
what makes it a "gaming" soundbar? Soundbars are the worst type of speaker to have for "gaming" offering very limited sound positional awareness. Im a bit confused about why it says gaming.
RGB yo... On a serious note, I think its a standard audio product that's trying to break into the "gaming" category with different EQ presets. The imaging out of this speaker is fantastic, that gives you a fine sense of large audio source right in front of you.
Anybody saying soundbars are good for.. Well, anything, clearly don't know what they're talking about. And i am not saying one should buy hifi. Just not soundbars, ever.
Good review Eber, I always like to hear the good, and the not so good. That's what I like about you guys @HardwareCanucks . Great graphics, lighting, sound, visual camera focus, it's all there. But that music score intro. . . . W O W !!! :)) Love it. Keep up the good work man. I tell you Eber, you are reallllly making this setup extremely tempting man ;)
A great alternative to the would be the Razer Leviathan, the two are very similar but the Leviathan is missing a few features like USB audio and RGB lighting, but also gains some features like aptX and NFC if those matter to you. I have the Leviathan and it's amazing and damn the Sub sounds good and gets loud for only being 30W. The base price of the Leviathan is $200 but at Razerzone it's $130 right now, it's honestly a steal at that price.

Dude, this thing looks great!!! :) Holy crap you totally hear the difference and it doesn’t sound like a computer speaker. Omgosh, I’m going to be it!!!
This is weird, I'm sure you released another video on the Katana for 2020. Either way i'm buying this. You gave a good review in 2016 and a pretty good one in 2020
I'd be interested to hear how a 5 1/4 bass driver would perform very well? Nice form factor but small satalite speakers, small 8" sub, and small amp should blow this away at probably half the price. Minus rgb lighting of course. Amazing is a strong word for any soundbar.
I have a Recon 3D and a G5 and honestly, you shouldn't expect the Creative software to get any better. You can see Creative forums littered with people having the same issues. Creative never responds and the issues persist months and evens years after products are released. You should expect to fight with their software if you buy any of their products, they just can't seem to make divers that work on anything above Windows 7.
Yo i had the same Edifier speaker 2.1! What a blast. Cant find them anymore. Now with some logitech 2.1 setup and i miss those Edifier! I use most of the time Audio technica mx30.
need to cut down on the depth of field effect. Used way to much and sometimes would look better having everything in focus. Good job and will add to my list for my computer station rebuild.
First: Top firing drivers? Great if you're standing over the box and don't mind reflections off the frigging ceiling! Second: That sub enclosure is far too thin to allow for anything approaching decent low freq performance. A bunch of circuitry and digital smoke and mirrors is being employed to make a substandard system sound "ok". If this thing was under $100: Go for it.
Is that also its own soundcard or does it work alongside a already existing Soundcard ? For me it doesnt seem clear what it is. Wouldnt be surprised if a Soundcard is somehow built in.
DO WANT. Sounds amazing. Personally i dont really care about rgb cause im cheap and dont like paying more for it, but this is out of my budget anyway. If i had the extra cash i would definitely pick it up.
You know, when I heard that it was 300 bucks, I was set back by it. But in reality, that's not that much for something that sounds this good, and has all those extra features.
Did you ever try speakers in the high-end range? If not, try something like Sonus Faber Olympica I and a nice McIntosh integrated amplifier. Can't describe how good something like this is - then your lossless files would really make sense.

Charles Marsh good for you! By etc. I mean it also probably has more powerful bass for you to hear gunshots more quickly, it supports digital surround sound so that you hear things behind you, and things like that. I said "etc" because I thought these were obvious...
Look at the Auvio HBT18600SE. I got that sound bar over a year ago. 60Watt RMS, bluetooth, remote control, etc. Price? $79 on sale at Radioshack. Plus it has a sick looking mesh design and the display is also behind the mesh which looks sick as well.
Some of you guys are missing the point of this. Its meant to be a slim all in one (PS, xbox, ps4 etc) that fits under your monitor. He probably meant that the subwoofer signal going through the cable is "proprietary" so you won't be able to replace the sub with a different one.
He keeps making such mistakes :/
That BlasterX branding on everything is hideous IMO. Would've preferred the cleaner Creative logo instead, but... gaming

It's marketed as a Gaming sound bar but in all honestly..It's just a great desktop speaker :)

Dragonheart I say 'etc' when I run out of examples

Look at the Auvio HBT18600SE. I got that sound bar over a year ago. 60Watt RMS, bluetooth, remote control, etc. Price? $79 on sale at Radioshack.
Plus it has a sick looking mesh design and the display is also behind the mesh which looks sick as well.
my 5 years old sp2500 still rocking :)
