Well I mean, the enemies didn't make noise AFTER they saw you (like the 'growling' noises in DOOM when they're far away) beyond doors opening. Not to mention, who WOULDN'T have a heart attack after rounding a corner and being greeted with "INTRUDER!"
My grandparents had a computer, as you might imagine they used it as basically a calculator/file folder, but they had some idea that their grandkids (we lived with them + our mom) might have some interest in this "Games" thing, so they used to get the Shareware copies of stuff like this and Wolfenstein. Obviously the latter one is infamous enough that I've always known the name, but this was the type of game where you remember JUST enough vagaries about it to know that it existed, but not enough to identify it. Great upload, great find
Oh my god... I have literally had this in the back of my head, like when you're trying to remember a specific song but can't for the love of anything find it... I played this in the 90's, and I recall it terrified me as a child. Been looking up old games from the 90's and I haven't been able to find it, until now!
9:20 I always loved the Status Screen for this game, so I knew how complete I was with the floor, I've been a completionist since I started computer gaming in the 90's
If you're talking about Prey 2017 then it is an impostor from Bethesda Softworks with complicity of Arkane Studios. It is supposed to be a reboot of the original Prey from 2006 from 3D Realms but it doesn't respect anything from the original. If you want to know what Prey really is, then take a look at the original Prey from 2006.
That has got to be the most brutal first level I've seen in an fps. Is there even any other part of the game where it throws that many commandos at you? I know it's a secret but holy fuck.
Have you ever had the Plasma Discharge Unit just up & stop working? it was super rare but I have had it happen before, it doesn't work again until you find a new 1.
Hahhaa, I can't believe it :), I use to play demo of this in 1998 Looking for this over net and forums, and accidentally finding this video is my diamond in coal mine. THANKS!!!
yo where can i get this n it would work on 10, i havnt played this in like 20 years i played it at school cause we wernt allowed to play doom this was some how allowed but i cant get this game anywhere ive got all the dooms but i spent my years growing up playing this
Just like 1993 all over again ;) But the thing I hated about Bstone, it's aiming/hitboxing really sucked. Case in point: When you were hammering away at that lanky electrical enemy, and it would not go down.. but then your shots hit the friendly labcoat guy who was standing *behind* it. Stupid fucking game! Lol. Those electrical enemies were real douchebags.
i used to swap the swaps for wolf this and a few other games, play around with making tc's would come later. and now i am a scripter for unreal engine, imagine....
+Skriva Kanga On normal that would work, but on harder difficulties you quickly learn that enemy flinch is either non-existent (or at least highly inconsistent). The Plasma Cannon is the only thing that can dispatch enemies fast enough because everyone is so tanky (especially four STAR Troopers among all things).
+Skriva Kanga Iirc, they do not pain flinch in this like they do in Wolf3D, in this when you shoot them, 90% (maybe even 100%) of the time it will trigger their attack state and they hit hard. Their pain chance (on the tougher enemies at least) is next to nothing so interrupting them with the AR is risky or rather suicide especially when ganged. AR is less risky to use at a distance really because of how bad enemy accuracy is.
That Apogee splash screen hit me right in the nostalgia.
I know how you feel. :'-)
I remember some parts of this game scaring me when I was a kid. seems ridiculous now.
you're not the only one:
STOP!!!
*hands fly off keyboard and I die*
Hmmm so I'm not the only one then. Thanks for sharing
The dungeon where the red keycard is

Haha yes but i had it even more so with doom
Ahh the nostalgia. The blue suit guys yelling "medic!" as their heart exploded out of their chests always got me.
I never knew Blake Stone could be so intense. It looks way more fun on higher difficulties.

I had just a vague 25-year-old memory of a first person shooter and the name Black Stone before finding this video. Thanks for uploading!

do you remember Corridor 7?
DOOR! DOOR! INTRUDER! AIIEEEEE!!! DOOR! YOU'RE DEAD!! Gotta love that 90's FPS dialogue.
This brings back lots of memories. I still have a copy of the game lol.
Finally some non-terrible gameplay videos for this game. Hardly anyone seems to know it exists..
took me like 15 years to find this damn game again.
@@shikouji same
Is this a non-terrible gameplay? He showed us the walls mostly.
Wow I had completely forgotten about this game
The protagonist of this game could outrun Sonic
This building levels are very well made, good colors and music
I remember a time when my computer wasn't even good enough to run this game...
Cant wait for the remake. After Doom and Wolfenstien it would be awesome to get a next gen over the top alien shooter
ScopeDog I agree on the reboot. It would be awesome!
such memories, i didnt even know what this game was called back then, i just played it none stop lol
I guess you couldn't read back then 😂😅(sorry😅)
9:20 I always loved the Status Screen for this game, so I knew how complete I was with the floor, I've been a completionist since I started computer gaming in the 90's
OMG!! Thank you so much! My favorite game of all time!!!
Man I remember playing this for hours a day in junior high
Beauty in simplicity. And vending machines!
WEE-ooh
Nostalgic!
Use to play this so much when i was a kid, Love it!
apogee ftw. makes me miss the 90s
Then relive them. ;-)

Loved this game when I was young :)
Back when first person shooters were actually fun to play.
Have you tried Prey, its a homage to System shock and Deux Ex ergo Blake Stone. Its pretty fuckin good

@@pliskinn0089 There is no FPS game released after 2007 that is "fun" to play let alone worth your money
@@Maxime_Martyr I know the original Prey, i played when it came out. I still liked the Rebot.
Bacon
There is. Some Valve titles like Portal and Left for dead. If you want a Classic FPS style of game; Ion Maiden and Dusk are the best so far.
My first fps, so many memories
What makes this so hard is that, unlike Wolf 3D, higher difficulties not only increase the number of enemies, but they also increase their HP...
It's amazing some of the things you forget when you get older... fuck this brought be right back when I was like 10... wow. I miss this game..hahaha!
Thanks for the video. I was looking for it. It reminds me old days. I can't forget the scary electric shocks in the game.
Underrated game. I always liked the space- mutant theme.
That has got to be the most brutal first level I've seen in an fps.
Is there even any other part of the game where it throws that many commandos at you? I know it's a secret but holy fuck.
I remember this game on what I think was a Rise of the Triad shareware disc along with a bunch of other Apogee games like Duke Nukem II.
I remember this game when i was a kid
I died 100 times watching this.
My childhood game
Wolfenstein clone, but it was SOO GOOD ... just like the game it was based off of. It was so futuristic at teh time.
Another awesome 'clone game' was Heretic.

One of the best games ever!!!!
Blake Stone and Doom on my windows 3.1 lol
Somebody should create a remake for Blake Stone. The remake would be as intense as Doom 2016 or the newest Wolfenstein games.
So are you dead? I didn't hear those Genetic Guards the last few times they said it... :P
i should do a remake of this :)

i need blake stone reboot :,(
Another Apogee game?
It's like Wolfenstein 3D but in... space?

"master coder" but you use scripting languages, seems legit
Sci fi wolfenstein
It did use the Wolfenstein 3D engine I believe?
use the machine gun more its just as effective as wolf3Ds one and uses much less ammo.
+Beaver Nator well if your moving around that quickly i have a feeling you dont rely on flinching anyway.
+Skriva Kanga That is also true.

yea but you move so quick in strafing made me think ether using the machine gun or the Mark2 machine gun would work for you so you could save on ammo.
You played very ugly. Nervous haste all over..
Naw, that's cause I was using mouse only.
