There's meant to be a discount for crafting parts if your a master mechanic, it's bugged or intentionally not enabled yet though. Crafting furniture should have something similar maybe

I think people need to remember the reason they want everyone do have their own niche is rp reasons. Like not everyone should know how to repair a car, or build a table, or do something in a field they don’t do the work in. The Rp is more realistic if everyone is not a jack of all trades and pays the people that work in that field for their expertise they earned by working the job. Also for example the lumber union ihas multiple people that rp heavy into being a lumber jack blue collar worker and spend all day working the job so it makes sense they have the expertise and experience to dominate the lumber trade and they selling wood at a price 15 which so far is barely even enough to make a profit after you account for all the rentals and gas and business expenses running a group if so many people is. They are trying to rp a business and when people that have never done lumber before and come in and chop lumber just cause they need it to build something is a bit lame especially since they rarely rp why they know how to do the job and the whole experience of it. Same for mechanics, they work all day on the rp of a mechanic shop and learning how to repair and it sucks when someone who has never touched a car before repairs it and doesn’t even give an rp reason for knowing how. Same with bluepirnts/ crafting it makes sense that you should try you stick to thing that your character has a reason for knowing how to craft. I like the concept cause i think it will add to the longterm stability and realism of the business and whole sever in general, i see how it just looks like gatekeeping but its more like rewarding the people who put in the work and its all in character rp reasons for it versus the ooc whitelist which was problematic for obvious reasons.

I feel like there a lack of nuance in this conversation. From what I understand lumber union has wood jacked up to 15. While it a great message to say "Lets do what we can to make sure business are supported". People at end of the day will gravitate to what makes financial sense. If the union is selling wood at 15 a pop of course they just going to go chop themselves. Same for mechanics, if a car takes 4-5k to fully repair but they only making 1000 a hour of course they will opt to just farming sani to repair themselves. I feel there a disconnect between people going around the system, and people within the system taking advantage of the situation to make a bigger profit. If everyone kept prices reasonable no one would be avoiding mechanic shops, people would be buying wood from the union, and sani union wouldn't be forced into producing only circuit boards. Definitely feels like a "I want my cake and eat it to". Where these businesses want to keep profits up while also forcing people to do business with them. There little awareness to ask the question of why people are choosing to go through the extra hassle to avoid their businesses. There was zero even consideration about how they could run their businesses more responsible and entirely about why everyone else is to blame.
Ultimately what Jack (Peppo) wants is for all of the people who are grinding hours and days worth of their time into creating these business to have their RP rewarded and valued by others, rather than people circumventing them just because they want to min/max profit over actual roleplay.

So there is a rep system you just can't see it. The blueprints you get from lumber or also some basic decoration blueprints like signs.

If being a backyard mechanic is cheaper than being a actual mechanic, what is the point of having an actual mechanic job, hard locking stats behind a job, and go to a actual mechanic? If both the outcome of a mechanic and a backyard mechanic is the same, of course people would go towards the backyard mechanic. If they want to keep the system, they should either increase the cost of entry for backyard mechanics by increasing the parts consumption, inferior parts, or having the backyard mechanic go through the exact same process as a normal mechanic with the locking of progression to a job and stuff.
