I like watching movies. I thought it would be a great idea to understand how critics analyse movies. After watching this I get a new perspective. Thank you.
I like movies too, I actually love them and I feel like it’s a hobby of mine. But I felt guilty about just watching them as a hobby. Of course I appreciate them but I feel like I should be able to write about them or something like that to truly appreciate them. Is that true?
Great lesson coming from someone who is just getting into film and cinema. Wishing to learn to get a better understanding of what I'm looking at when watching a movie. Thank you for this!!
I suggest watching Abbie Emmons video "the one writing trick that will instantly make your story more emotional." It's a writing video, but she compares the same scene of two different Little Women movies. I felt it really helped my understanding of analyzing movies while trying to learn how to write better scenes.
Thank you for this insightful and informative video. However, I agree with some of the other comments about a crucial aspect of film analysis you missed: the writing. One of the most underappreciated and yet most important parts of a film. The invisible foundation on which everything else is built.
In my RUclips search bar, I entered "how to appreciate movies" 3 rd video from the top with the least views among them was This. I had no reason to watch this particular video. I clicked this unporpusefully to randomly provide a chance to intrigue me, and I can confidently say I dont regret spending 15 mins of my life watching this and will remember this video here after
Wow mr hunter you used to to teach me and were always one of my favourite teachers, I was in your class when you first started this channel and now you have over 100,000 subs , good on you Simon ;)
This video has honestly been so helpful in just understanding media in general. Media literacy is a really underrated skill to have because it lets you enjoy what you consume so much more
The movie Belfast ends up coming off stylized to me in a way by exactly trying so hard to be natural. It just feels a little contrived, like a dollhouse. I would say it's overly choreographed, I way prefer Greengrass's approach.
can semiotics and its terminology only be applied to analysing literal symbols and signs or can it also be applied to analysing objects and costumes too?
Great question! First time without any distraction, notes etc. second time perhaps with a note pad, then if it’s a deep dive, with specific focus such as cinematography
The concept of cinematic silence, and silent movies are two different things. Will watch it. Thanks. Please make a video on Cinematic Silence in movies.
Does that apply to all french terms borrowed by the english? And visa versa? English words and phrases borrowed by the french? Déjà vu Faux pas Coup d'état Avant-garde Double entendre
EMPTY TALK. WHY THE AMERICAN MOVIES GET FROM BAD TO WORSE ? THIS IS THE REAL QUESTION. THE OLD HOLYWOOD SCHOOL WAS BETTER BUT TIMES HAVE CHANGED. TODAY , THE VERY SPIRIT WHO CREATED THIS FORM OF ART IS DEAD TODAY. AS THE AMERICAN CULTURE HAVE TAKEN THE WORLD BY SUPPRESSION, HEAVY DECLINE OF MORAL VALUES IS IN PLACE WHERE THE MOST FEROCIOUS HUNGER FOR MONEY IS IN REIGN. I AM SURE WILL COME IN DAY WHEN AMERICAN SUPREMACY WILL BE LONG GONE AND BETTER TIMES WILL GIVE BETTER VALUES TO OUR SPIRITUAL NEEDS. UNFORTUNATELY AT THAT TIME MOST OF US WILL BE GONE…….

i appreciate seeing hiqh quality source material in the footage. makes it not look blocky and blurry. Loved the video.
Thank you!
I believe the first element of film study should be writing, as it is the core element of a film.
Love your work here and in general. This looks like a great film too.
Thanks buddy - wish I was able to upload more often!
I’m still confused. I never studied films, but I love watching movies. I wish I could understand them more. Like breaking down like you’re doing.

Can I translate their content into Turkish and publish it? That way, it increases your publicity at no cost.

I have major problem with Belfast.
What is it?
Fascinating stuff. And despite all of this Belfast is still a shit film.
