This was so well worded, so, easier to understand. I have actually done this. Guarding my health is a priority every day. Doing preventative things to not have to take any meds.
if you are are heavy as them, check your blood pressure and cholesterol and if you have high amounts of that... you should get meds... you can always quit them when you have lost enough weight.... fastest and most efficient way that i found out to loose weight, is to consume much less suger, i was adiccted to coca cola and beer, drinking coca cola instead of water since i was 10 years old now im 26 and i drank huge amounts for beer from 18 to 24 weight went from 200pound to 300 pound during that period, but ive lost almost 90 ponds in a couple of year cutting out sugar from coke and beer and... its as simple as that carbs are worse than fat when in comes to weight gain, carb are basicly suger in different states like white bread contains alot of carbs white rice and ect. diet is more important than exersice... but its a plus if you walk abit every day so you keep your body in motion to not loosing muscle mass... sorry for my english, i speak it fluently but my typing has been inpared because i am so used to use autocorrect on my phone... dont have that on my pc good luck
@@neogeo1670 Thank you for your concern & the good information you took the time to provide. Have you ever heard any medical professionals say that most chronic ailments can be prevented or cured by losing weight? I take that seriously. It's why I'm careful about what I put in my body. Several years ago I went through every place in my home where all processed or high sugar substances were. I threw some of it out, donated some to a food bank. The ones that were still far from their expiration date were given to other people. The reason some of it was given to others is that when I told a group of friends what I was going to do, they specifically asked for it. I felt a bit sluggish with brain fog for a month after the big cleanout. Then, it cleared, my energy level went back up, I started to feel happier, not realizing I had been somewhat melancholy before that. Processed, over sugared, chemical things that people eat are poison to the body. I do what is right for me, never telling others what is better for their body. It's a personal choice that all have to make for themselves. Sometimes people ask me about it, only then will I tell them my view of it. Everything that a person puts in their body will either feed future disease or fight it. It's a choice.

Penn Jillette and the director and actor Kevin Smith lost a lot of weight (100 pounds for Penn) and turned their health around by adopting a plant based diet. They also had the lowest rates of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and multiple types of cancer. Link at my channel under "About" then "Chronic Adventist Study."
I've actually though about that before, can you influence what your children can be born with if you take care/alter yourself throughout your lifetime?
Even being very healthy, some girls and I can't stop the alopecia androgenitic process and the hair loss gets worse and worse. In future, I hope science finds better methods than hormones that can cause cancer as treatment.
Much too cursory for my taste. I would have liked to learn more about how epigenetics is not a mutation and can still be passed on to future generations. That said, it was thought-provoking.
That was explained. With these lifestyle changes you express the information in your genes in one way or another and the magnitude of those expressions (changes) are then passed on along with your genes whenever you reproduce.
It has proper scientific backing from lots of high quality studies. She kinda over-simplifies a lot of things & tries to give an overview while being relatable and engaging. Which is always the downside of popular science infotainment material.
Epigenetics is real. Your cells respond to environmental cues by making changes to the expression of various genes, activating some and deactivating others.
@@fakename9303 “Empower yourself through epigenetics” is not a downside of pop science, it is misleading and could have dangerous consequences for people’s health as well as their later evaluation of scientific material. Epigenetics is legit but overhyping it like this is not.

1. Mind: stress mitigation alters cortisol / insulin hormones level which alters the metabolic state from glycosis to ketosis. The immune system performance is optimized during ketosis..... 2: mouth: = the switch to whole food diets does necessary increase longevity but dropping overall caloric intake via a low cal high fiber vegan or keto diet will OR regularly doing intermittent fasting - both promote ketosis. . 3: Muscle = good muscle tone does not prevent heart attacks or strokes but it makes it easier for the body to recover if the immune system is working ...good muscle tone does not guarantee a working immune system. ...getting enough sleep every day does promote a good immune system. Clarification: Epigenetics is how development is altered by the environment. .WWII dutch famine cohort study found that starvation during pregnancy leads to an metabolic epigenetic change in fetus to lower caloric burn rate for the life time of the fetus. WRT to the epigenetic change to the metabolism... some believe it is caused by the microbiome transfer from the mother to the fetus and that actively altering the fetus microbiome can alter the fetus metabolism ... that is - it is believed the alteration of the microbiome can change which GI microbiome neurotransmitters are sent to the brain to help regulate the metabolism. In addition, child abuse or early social isolation of a baby or other adverse condition of a child from the age 0 to 12 can damage/inhibit the development of the Prefrontal cortex section of the Brain and cause irreversible social and cognitive development problems that will persist for the rest of the life of that child. This type of brain damage is thought to be permanent.
So this is a fancy way of saying “live a healthy lifestyle”. Totally overdramatised on the “epigenetics” side and understated on the importance of diet, sleep, exercise and mental well-being.
It is not "overdramatizing", but rather an explanation of one mechanism by which diet, sleep, exercise and mental health affect changes in the physiological level through altering the expression of certain genes (aka epigenetics).

I feel Peeke was not relevant or qualified to speek on this topic. It seems she has misunderstood the consept and history of epigenetics. She is hyping it up to something it is not, and using it as a vessel to promote general health advice. The connection to the topic was very loose. Carey has a more nuanced understanding and I wish she would have led this video, as it is important to bring correct information out there, especially by BBC.
Please don't listen to people who say law of attraction or meditation/organic food can make your legs longer. That's nonsense. Outside of growing an inch longer overall through yoga or having an osteotomy (bone-cutting/repairing surgery) before age 25 - which btw is a psychologically traumatic procedure, there's no way you can grow your legs. Majority of bone growth stops by the time we reach adulthood. Learn to be happy with your size, there are some people who don't even have legs and would do anything to be in your position.
I understand what is genetic expression and what is epigenetic modulation.Very good information. Its possible to decrease expression of bad genes via external intervention diet exercise meditation etc .They are our ways to silence bad gene expression
Does this mean I can still grow tall eventhough my parents are short and probably inherited that short allele, plus the interference of poor nutrition, now at 20, I'm really short. Is it too late for me to grow tall?
Epigenetics affects the physical, emotional and mental aspects of being 'a mess'. (Choice of words not appreciated.) We're all struggling with something, or someone.

this video is scientifically incorrect. DNA does change with epigenetics and the change is chemical. but its not permenant but so is the genetic code really hence why we have mutations. but mutations are random and hence only serve long term evolution where as chemical epigenetic changes are not random and are actioned by enzymes that detect encironmental systems, so there is a system there and its components are genetically coded for. also bad genes is used selectively as non healthy. i can see the aim of the video maker, which is to relay the message that while genetic code (agtc) for an individual is 99% the same and permenant, its expression is based on environment which we can control. but saying things like epigentic is when genes are the same is misleading and leads readers to have misconceptions about this subject which is self defeating to the aim of the video maker.
I really liked to read more about this. And yes, because I felt that this video oversimplifies too much. Could you give me some resources I can read after this?

I guess west will invest and do all kinds of expensive research where actually it's already known to human kind way back. In Yoga which is Astanga Yoga it is mentioned one Rule called "Paropkarita" which literally means no Ill doing or thinking for others infact making others happy and content is actually good for your health. So sad that humans have literally neglect the old teaching which took millions of years to learn. And no one teaching this to younger population. This is not epigenetic this is common sense.
Sexuality and gender identity both appear to be controlled based on the hormones (which ones and how many) a fetus receives from its mother during critical parts of their brain development. So, not a genetic component as much as hormonal. Once that part of the brain is developed, it's also not reversable.

if you are are heavy as them, check your blood pressure and cholesterol and if you have high amounts of that... you should get meds... you can always quit them when you have lost enough weight.... fastest and most efficient way that i found out to loose weight, is to consume much less suger, i was adiccted to coca cola and beer, drinking coca cola instead of water since i was 10 years old now im 26 and i drank huge amounts for beer from 18 to 24 weight went from 200pound to 300 pound during that period, but ive lost almost 90 ponds in a couple of year cutting out sugar from coke and beer and... its as simple as that carbs are worse than fat when in comes to weight gain, carb are basicly suger in different states like white bread contains alot of carbs white rice and ect. diet is more important than exersice... but its a plus if you walk abit every day so you keep your body in motion to not loosing muscle mass... sorry for my english, i speak it fluently but my typing has been inpared because i am so used to use autocorrect on my phone... dont have that on my pc good luck
@@FreeSpirit47 people are different, so what might work on you might not work me ect, but I find it helpful others giving advice, I can't know everything. But I don't follow any strict diet, only regulating what I eat and when

Where do people keep their genes? Well in their JEANS of course! Barely funny, pardon me please.
I've actually though about that before, can you influence what your children can be born with if you take care/alter yourself throughout your lifetime?
Apparently if you've been lean all your life but become obese before conception, the latter stage (or propensity) can be transmitted to the new born.
So at the end this video has nothing to do with genetics. Just teaches you to have a healthy lifestyle with a ton of Woke stock vids
Even being very healthy, some girls and I can't stop the alopecia androgenitic process and the hair loss gets worse and worse. In future, I hope science finds better methods than hormones that can cause cancer as treatment.
Very informative, thank you! Would be amazing if this were a series of videos on health🍎
The impact of hypercapitalism on wellness will be understood using epigenetic approaches. Hopefully, a toxic workplace will be against HR policy soon.
They hired Cate Blanchett to act as a scientist wow
This is groundbreaking and I saw something about this years ago. I have already influenced my own genes to change.
Could you tell us how?
Pamela Peeke sounds like some inspirational speaker/guru, not a scientist. Makes me question if epigenetics is legit or just a psuedocience..

Would have been good for them to talk about effects of toxic chemicals in foods, and possibly in municipal water.
it all starts with food
Nothing is impossible with new technologies ❤️
So this is a fancy way of saying “live a healthy lifestyle”.
Totally overdramatised on the “epigenetics” side and understated on the importance of diet, sleep, exercise and mental well-being.
It is not "overdramatizing", but rather an explanation of one mechanism by which diet, sleep, exercise and mental health affect changes in the physiological level through altering the expression of certain genes (aka epigenetics).

So genes are more like a tendency?
A predisposition, yes. Epigenetics is the selective activation of some genes through lifestyle.
The visuals used in this video, for meditation, are all yoga poses, but I wonder if the mentioning of yoga is purposefully avoided by Western media.

@@benzpinto Not true, you are stuck with your natural leg length.
That’s not how epigenetics work. You’re gonna have to live with your short legs

These diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, adolescence, older adulthood, and for athletes. Plant-based diets are more environmentally sustainable than diets rich in animal products because they use fewer natural resources and are associated with much less environmental damage.
Vegetarians and vegans are at reduced risk of certain health conditions, including ischemic heart disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, certain types of cancer, and obesity.
Low intake of saturated fat and high intakes of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, soy products, nuts, and seeds (all rich in fiber and phytochemicals) are characteristics of vegetarian and vegan diets that produce lower total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and better serum glucose control. Good Video
this video is scientifically incorrect.
Thank you...
