  • Masking canopies can strike terror in scale modelers, but this tip makes even the most complicated canopies in any scale, not only easy to mask, but you can enjoy a tasty treat while doing it! See how easy it is to remove any residue left from chocolate foil masking: • Chocolate Foil Masking...
    There's many options out there for masking scale model canopies to allow for airbrushing.
    The most common method of masking canopies is to use a kabuki type masking tape. The downside is the tapes thickness. It makes it very difficult to see the canopy frame edges.

      @@TheEmptySprue Yeah, I definitely had some residue. Since I sealed everything with Testors clear flat aftwards, I was able to use a Qtip and alcohol to remove the residue afterward. I'll definitely check out these chocolate wrappers.

    I use Bare Metal Foil to do this - it has an adhesive to adhere to the plastic though you still need to tamp it into place. Great video - thanks.

    • @TheEmptySprue
      @TheEmptySprue  3 года назад +1

      The problem with BMF is it leaves a sticky residue that requires cleaners to remove. The adhesive used on the chocolate foil is a food grade wax, so cleaning the canopy afterwards simply means buffing it with a soft, dry cloth. You can see a video about that right here: ruclips.net/video/q4y37zx_W68/видео.html

      Im going to guess you have been trying the red wrappers? For some reason, some colors just dont work. The red wrapper is one of them. The foil should peel fairly easily and not have any color from the plastic on it. If when you peel the foil, its difficult and color from the plastic is on it, these will not work. The best and easiest to find are the blue wrapper

    • @TheEmptySprue

      No, kitchen foil is much much thicker and does not have the waxy substance on it like the chocolate foil has, so there would be now way for it to stick.

    • @peterkealey5329
      @peterkealey5329 4 года назад

      I've successfully used kitchen foil with good results - just have to apply a coating of adhesive. It's many years since I did it though and I can't remember what adhesive I used. You can probably find videos on the internet.

      Lindt Lindor chocolate truffles. Each color wrapper is a different flavor of chocoloate. A few dont work for some strange reason, but most do. I have the best luck with the blue (milk chocolate?) or the black (dark chocolate) wrappers.

    • @TheEmptySprue
      @TheEmptySprue  Год назад

      This particular chocolate uses what I'm guessing is a food grade wax to adhere the foil to the plastic wrapper (Hershey kisses dont have a plastic wrapper, therefore no wax adhesive)
      This waxy side is the side that sticks to the canopy. To remove the foil easily, hold it up to a warm light for 15 seconds or so.
