The enhanced edition is epic. This game is really good and they have cleaned a lot of the stuff that was troublesome up. It is a great RPG and I think a re-review needs to happen.
Just FYI. You do not need to complete a game in order to review it, that is just ridiculous, we have all bought games, played them for 30mins and then come to the conclusion that they suck. I played this game for almost 5 hours so I have an excellent idea of what it's all about and more importantly if it's worth a buy?
Also the price at the time of the review was £39.99 so that is how I reviewed it, yes it may come down on release but at the moment it's £39.99
WOW 4 hours!!! REALLY ::) FYI this is a first impression video not a review. Why? well you actually need to have a FULL GAME first so that you can review it!?.... Maybe?... Also you NEED to finish the game to review IT, not cos this is just your opinion, but also cos OTHER people shell see this and judge if they should buy it or not. Also learn a little bit of a history about how this game came to be(its a big, big deal) so that you can judge its price (ATM).I wish you all the best ::)
demon1kus I am special, I can play a game for even 1 hour then do a full review.
Worth A Buy hey mack could you do a review on planetary annihilation btw you can get steam games really cheap by going on a website called g2a
Mack, play and review Vanish. Sparrowmella played it and shat bricks
you should ignore these dumbasses and just keep doing what you're doing.
'This is the kind of game you play if you're not married' boom, sold.
Honestly, if you consider yourself a fan of old school western RPGs like Fallout 1/2, Arcanum, Planescape etc - you SHOULD have it. It would be a crime not to get it.
Hahaha, read the character's bio at 2:52 xD
Haha, I paused it and had a read once I realised
LOL, haha, 10 out of 10
If you were a fan of old school games like arcanum, fallout 1/2. It is a must buy.
$59.99 US dollars, but from what I'm reading it will be $25 US at release? How does this make sense?
you buy early releases to SUPPORT ... not to play the game. If you want to play the game, you wait till it is completed. simple as that.
Tolga şimşek
No you support the devs by BUYING the game period. This whole charging extra for early access is BS, and I'm calling it for what it is: you paying to do their job for them. I like inXile.. I really do. I think Brian Fargo is a visionary.. but as with Elite Dangerous, paying extra for early access is just wrong.
Their reason is they wanted to respect the Kickstarter backers and only make early access available at the same price Kickstarter people paid for it.
They are not exactly alone in this. Planetary Annihilation, Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous are all charging more for early access.
ProximateTen It's 50 dollars because the beta-level backing amount was 50 dollars. So, in order not to fuck the people who actually funded the game, they decided to put the price at that level.
ProximateTen It costs what it does right now because that was the kickstarter pledge for beta access. It would be a slap in the face to everyone who pledged that much to have it put at a lower price at this point in it's development.
This game is completely fallout tactics with 2014 polish & some extra features added into it... Making a game this complex takes months of coding and work, I'd say 60$ "is too much compared to game market" BUT also may be considered as worthy of effort they have done. Most AAA games don't even get into this much complexity of mechanics... It may not be done by 100+ people but it certainly is a huge effort combination. --- (Once you start studying game development & try doing a decent game, you get to see how hard it actualy is)
Mack, at what price point would you say it's worth a buy?
Mac, are you coming back to re-review this now that the Director's Cut is out running on Unity 5?
I may be totally wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure the early access price is higher than the final release price. Once it's released, the current price will be for the "deluxe" edition(which include Wasteland 1 and Bards Tale), and the normal version will be $35. Not sure about international pricing.
Correct it will be cheaper once its released.
How does the combat compare with Back In Action?
The finished product was awsome, I as a "Fallout Tactics" fan waited for Wasteland 2 like water after a month under the burning sun.
Fallout Tactics was better, but Wasteland 2 - the Director's cut - was Good!
Now that the game IS finished, will you do another review? I'm considering picking it up, I loved the old-style Fallout games.
Great review as always!
Being a huge fallout fan this game was on my buy list. The devs are seemly dedicated to the fans and the game itself (to my knowledge).
What really really puts me off from buying this game is the regional/country lock. It's bad enough they are charging $59.99 for an incomplete game, but a regional lock just spells greedy. I'm not about to buy two of the same copies just because I travel/relocate frequently. And I certainly do not respect devs that impose unnecessary restrictions on games; based on the players location.
You played Bards Tale? Wouldn't mind a worthabuy on that :)
I still wish somebody would help bring back the bbs door game LOD (land of devastation). This looks pretty close (obviously much more modern gfx wise), but I liked how in LOD there were only a certain amount of turns per day, and when you logged out, you better be hidden, or have some defense around you....
I agree with Mack here. It was/is a decent game but not at that silly EarlyAcess price. At least not for most people. I'd say it definately is worth a buy though, post release. It can go pretty cheap these days and while it's not at the cream of the crop for its genre, its still a pretty solid rpg in the mould of the old fallouts and Jagged Alliance 1/2 to a lesser extent.
Mack, dont feel bad about giving it a thumbs down. Fair enough it's a good game but 40 is a bit much just as u said. This is what this channel is about and why we like these reviews. It isn't about score or how good the game is but about if it worth a buy or not.
Mack please do a wab of the director's cut version of this
Been waiting on this to go on sale but its on games pass now for xb if ya got that then give it a play. my issues that the text is too small to read I'm constantly using that zoom in tool n it still is blurry u need a PC monitor to play it proper i think. idk
I actually think these games are worth 40 quid if you're into them. I've played Xenonauts for the past month and I'm enjoying it a lot. A lot better than a 6 hour CoD campaign. What I want to know with this though that I don't think you covered - is the story and characters any good? I like the gameplay but I want to play a game with personality.
Well put together I enjoyed the review and honestly like you, the money was the core factor I decide against it. Maybe if there was a Multiplayer mode in some form, turn by turn up to 3 other friends. already have 4 characters right? Though, that is understandably a fair amount of work to put in a multiplayer. Here's hoping for a sale after release though, loved the fallout series but have you considered a comparison to other similar games such as Xenonauts? (Albeit the core similarity would be the turn based battles)
Just a general question... Why do you have a link to your steam account when its private.... Or am I just missing something?
I'm a kickstarter backer so I got this game for much cheaper then the current Steam price. I only played it for a few hours since I don't like to play rpg's in beta. But from my limited playthrough I feel that it is better then any AAA game that has come out in years and definitely worth the money. I'm not a fan of console ports and mostly just play PC exclusives though, so keep that in mind.
Mack have you ever considered doing a Payday 2 review?
I always wanted to see your thoughts on it
Lucky my Wife is addicted to soap opera's then eh! :)
I dont even play pc games i just find mack hilarious...
Can you please come back to this once its full release and cheaper ?
5hrs is not enough time to know this type of game... You know what your getting with this game, before you buy.. This type of game is not for everyone, obviously.. There are so few of these style games anymore however, and when a good one, like Wasteland 2 comes along, its definitely going to be held in high regard! Ofcourse you could always play the garbage that is Dragon Age Inquisition, and claim its wonderful.....
Well it's been released today for £29.99.
Do you think it's worth a buy now?
in US its gone down to $39.99, I'm not sure whether I should get it, I'm very very on the fence now.
TheUnbeholden , It's a blast! Get it. It's old-school, no question, but it's fun as hell.
Mack the game is priced at 60$ because back in Kick starter that what backers payed to get in the beta so now the developers priced the EA the same so they don't screw backers over, the game will be 25 or 30$ when it launches cant remember, great review as always tho.
This game is amazing. Now that is officially released (already more than half year) It is worth it every penny. It has tons of contend, lots to do and replay ability is top notch. Better buy this games instead of some linear , scripted non sense holly weed-esqe (COD) games. This is game is for hardcore RPG games. Is for Fallout fans and tactical lovers. The game worth it 100% of it's price.
Otherwise very good review.
Sounds like a decent fun game. They said the price is gonna drop when it releases...so, since I have so many games in my backlog I can wait on this one.
Mack ! i'm a huge fan of your reviews, i don't comment though i'm nearly always agreeing with your opinions. BUT this time.... Mack, you missed all the important legacy of the game ! sure you might not be into this type of turn-based rpg, but hell. you probably heard of fallout franchise ? well this is the spiritual godfather of fallout franchise in its new installment - made by original creators team (brian fargo!) over 20 years after the original came out. the lore in the fallout universe will tell you all about random encounters, inside jokes too many to count, famous "war never changes" and all. the steep price level is to support the game - some of the game elements do change as people comment on the dev blog/forum - ive seen UI changes just because someone posted his own version of it and devs thought it was better ! so you really pay for that and it was never intended for anyone to pay so much - but for the fallout universe geeks - sure. i myself waited so many years after playing fallout 1/2 till bethesda won the right to title and fucked it up, changed it into mindless console-like fps. this one is different. this one if the original creator coming back showing us and to AAA devs how to make a good game and how to be a dev who listens to fans even before the game comes out. and i gladly pay for that upfront, even if its a lot compared to other games. sure your impression is its far to dear - but wasteland 2 is not an indie game, its different, believe me. just wait till all the hype starts when it hits stores.well i just thought that this "come back" game, so influential and so important in terms of gaming progression over past 20 years (wasteland1-fallout-fallout2-tactics-f3-fallout new vegas) has to be mentioned in slightly better light. again, this is not typical turn-based crap. its wasteland, its landmark in gaming is waay to big not to be mentioned. anyways, just my 5 cents. keep up the good work - we need your reviews. all the best.
Plaese review some Mount and Blade Games.
Yes!
Yes, that game is so under-rated, people have to open their eyes and see that the game is awsome!
Mack, if you liked this entry however disliked it at that price i'd suggest you give Shadowrun Returns a try. Same sort of combat system along with a very deep story. Set inside the pen and paper RPG world of Shadowrun. £19 at release currently £12 now the new expansion pack has been released.
I agree about the price I'm buying it now for 20. I think that's reasonable.
What is the music in the background? It is really good.
Inward but it's made with smartsound which means you can't actually buy the track, you compose variations of it using the smartsound application.
Worth A Buy
Part of the reason I subscribed in the first place was this music Mack. Something soothing about it. And I like it how you mix it up sometimes, like with Valiant Hearts.
Worth A Buy www.smartsound.com/royalty-free-music/library/Serene+Dream/Inward/
Finally (almost) found it,
***** I own the rights to it but to get the version I use you would need to have the editing software as I did some alterations to the background track you hear on the site.
Darude sandstorm
EA price tags.....will they ever be anything but outrageous?... Probably not.
Like Planetary Annihilation. When I first saw it it was like 100 dollars for Early Access. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
All in all to be... Paying at all...for an unfinished game is outrageous. WHat happened to good ol' demos. Freebies... Try the game out for 25 minutes or longer worth of gameplay. See if its something for you. God... I miss the good ol' demos.
I wonder why all of these cRPG games that had millions of dollars in kickstarter backers, proceed to charge sur-triple A prices ($40+), make a bit of content after release, throw out another expansion they charge 20$ for, do some bug fixes, and then move onto their next cash cow. Really ticks me off.
"free copy of Wasteland 1" to me, that sounds more like forcing the customer to pay extra for a game made back in '88. $59.99 retail on steam is ridiculous as this is nowhere near an AAA game. But I agree that it looks decent enough for fans of the genre, so $30 is more reasonable.
I do like the look of this but £40 for an unfinished product is ridiculous, that's AAA retail pricing, not unfinished indie pricing. If a developer wants me to gamble on a product there needs to be some kind of pay off, that usually comes in the form of a smaller price tag.
What's even crazier, Steam has a Digital Deluxe Edition for $60! It includes the first one and Bard's Tale.
not trying to be rude, but do you understand how early access and crowd funded games work?
This game is worth every penny IMO. The game offers a lot with over hundred hours worth of content, sure the first hour starts quite slow and a bit boring but as soon as you learn how to play the game properly, it will suck you in. Unlike other games out there that runs only for 4 fucking hours and has the audacity to charge $60 full price, this game is a way better option.
Supposedly, when it releases, the price will be going down anyway. This whole £40 business was due to fairness to the Kickstarter backers. It's basically a case of waiting until it releases, unless you're wanting to support the developers during Early Access.
Will this game run on 2.13ghz cpu laptop ?
Hey, Mack! Have you ever played Gemcraft (most current version is called "Chasing Shadows")? It's a great online Tower Defense. Do it.
Cool, playing Divinity: Original Sin at the moment. Very similar looking gameplay just completely different settings and wasteland seems to have far more "stats" for better or worse.
I'll keep my eyes on it regardless, still have Shadowrun to go through. Definitely not paying their current asking price.
$60 bucks for a top down RPG? Idc how deep it is, that's a AAA title and a half at full price. Dragon Age Inquisition with all DLC... Well, most DLCs. And that's for a Kickstarter game w/o a publisher surcharge... C'mon, wtf?! $40 max, 29.99 would be reasonable, but $60 is highway robbery. Not to mention 0 risk taken by the studio because it was kickstarted. Even Star Citizen's Squadron 42 single player campaign full standalone game is less than $60... Elite was 49.99 with the steam discount.... What the hell man!?
ah, the ag center. some finish it in minutes. some take 5 hours... like me... great fun
I love your videos! Maybe review divinity original sin so you will have fun with a game again.
i bought this game and you are right its stupidly over priced its enjoyable but flawed if your a super nerd like me it might be worth it but its not got much replayability so even though you only played it for a few hours compared to my hundreds of hours your review was spot on(As always)
I really dont think €10 should be the difference of "a must buy!" and "i'd rather be kicked in the balls!"(than to support the development of a great game with €10 extra and also get a chance to play/review it before its finished).
It certainly would be a kick in the balls for us who backed this game to see it sell much cheaper than what we put in (to be able to play it early + for support).
I can see how €10 makes a difference for a 10 year old kid, but i get the impression your a grown-up person..
I've just come across this video randomly looking for wasteland 2 reviews................................. Is that Mack?
If it was half the price, I'd gleefully buy it. As it is $65ish here, I'm going to wait for it to drop in price.
this game looks great, its like fallout tactics!! Would definitely buy it if it was multiplayer...
I love the game! Though I only paid 17$! I would've gladly paid the original price. I hoping for more games like this,Xcom& Divinity to be put on ps4.
After seeing this, i think the game Kenshi by lofi-games might be deserving a review. But I think it might still be in alpha, I'll have to check on that.
gives off a very xcom feel
I think you hit the nail right on the head, looks decent, I am REALLY interested, but the price is preposterous given the proliferation of really good (though perhaps less deep) indie games for much much much less. Their statements that they MUST charge that price (or feel bad that the kickstarters who paid that price were somehow wronged) I think is such a poor business decision that I may never buy it.
it will eventually end up in a steam sale (may take a while) but you can get it then :)
If they pissed off the kickstarter backers like myself, by selling the game cheaper before release then what I paid for it would be a much worse financial decision. I know I would never back anything they made again and I'm sure many others would do as well. They would also get loads of bad press from backers feeling cheated.
I hope people realize when this was reviewed, it was in beta and is definitely better now.
Well the full version has been released, time for a another Worthabuy. Its gone down to $40 dollars.
Totally agree on the price for this. Looks like a good game (particularly for Early Access) but £40 is pretty steep for most PC games in general, never mind a fairly niche early access title.
But you are not paying 40 quid for an unfinished game, you are paying 40 quid for a full game that you now have early access to (Release dates Sept 19?), I liked your review but I think that your last statement is quite misleading.
This is the franchise that was stolen from the original fallout developers by ea...
Welsh, give the Director's Cut a bash eh?
it does play like xcom right?
Reviewer is right on some things. This IS a thinking persons game, akin to what Western RPGs during the golden age of RPGs USE to be like. That's what I like about it. You can approach a problem from many different angles & there are actual consequences for your actions. No karma/morality meter in a literal sense like in Fallout 3 & Fallout New Vegas, it's much more subtle & meaningful.
It's *used, not use. Just doing the Lord's work.
I love that album man
I loved 3 and NV, but I wish they borrowed a lot more from 1 and 2..
FleshEatingMouseBottles ! It's just different, Bethesda does action-RPGs. My issue with their RPGs has typically been that their NPCs have next to no depth.
Harrison11106 That is my point. I like the VATS, 3D, FPS/TPS, and stuff in 3, but I fell like the humor, choices, dialogue depth, and quality writing is gone..
NV was better, but still suffered a bit.. But I love the lore and gameplay in all of them!
the game is now 20$ I've always been interested in the original fallout game, now I have a chance to try it for myself. gamestop has a few copies. I will buy it today.
Reading through the comments, a lot of people think the game is a ripoff in multiple ways. The problem with the comments is that everyone are just giving there impressions, and really don't know much about the game or its history . I guess its because i'm a fanboy.
Gonna go ahead and give my point of view. This is the kind of game people who played Wasteland then Fallout would enjoy. its awesome and i love the progress they made on it, very close if not practically the same to Fallout 1 and 2's combat and ridiculous environment/dialog but just set in Wasteland's universe. 50 US dollars is an investment people who are huge fans of both should make, because true fans of the old school games are missing out on a chance to provide feedback to a game they have been waiting for. if this seems too pricey then wait until the final game is released. i feel like its right at home under B. Fargo's care.
It is called Wasteland 2, you got the name wrong.
can you do Unturned please
Picked it up on humble bundle for £7 pretty sure it'll be worth that
Toaster Repair Extraordinaire.
Shame you don't have Shadowrun Returns. It's only 10.99, same game type but different setting. (As far as I can tell :-) )
this has much more freedom and content than SR (which was pretty good but linear)
I gotta agree on the price being too high. I went and bought it anyway, but it still is too much for just a retro experience.
I'd like it I you reviewed planetary annihilation
REVIEW [ Starpoint Gemini 2 ] please?
looks exactly like fallout tactics
looks like fallout tactics and xcom and wtf is up with the monty python rabbits
mack u know that game will be 25$ after launch which is in around 1 month right? i agree that its really expensive and they explained why its expensive on the forums. on kickstarter it was 55$ for early access, so they didnt wanted to make it unfair for backers and make game cheap on steam. this game is definitely worth 25$ tho. i just love it. i've put few dozens of hours in it for sure, cant wait the release, devs said it will be twice as bigger as it is now.
Shut the door a d get immersed....by looking down at the top of your characters head for hours and hours and hours.
you should do a WAB on warz/infestation i know its crap but i just to see what you think lol
Do a review on "The mean greens Plastic warfare"
wut lol this is in beta? and they are advertising dlcs on main menu
Its a joke, you click on the button and it makes fun of you
In the Kickstarter video they made fun of publishers 'wanting to add little tweaks' to the game, one of those being red boots. If you look at the Torment: Tides of Numenera kickstarter they made one of the publishers have the red boots to further poke fun.
i am sorry but what kind of accent is it? am i the only one who have trouble to understand?
You sound more pissed off than normal in this video haha
You really haven't played the early fallout games...
It should be affordable now.
This guy speak like a true Jamaican
This gameis fucking awsome who cares about graphics this game is so atmospheric and addictive
You do realise this is the EARLY ACCESS price, right? The final price will be lower - around €30 and I suspect it to be £25. A very fair price for such a large game.
I disagree. You are willing to pay 50 bucks for a half game. Also its not a tripple AAA game. This game is not made by hundereds of people.
SpeletLost *facepalms* Good job of completely not getting the point of this game or my post.
redavatar
Care to explain? Sarcasm?
RainbowCynicism Totally agree mate
You are wrong, this is the price for the DELUXE edition. They might release a standard version for cheaper on release, but this type of business practice is enough to turn me off.
If this was $20 or at a push $30 it would be. But at $60, then another $50 for DLC. Having a laugh.
Review neo scavenger please
Dam prices, looks good.
That bio, though!
bought it on steam sale for about 11€
bought it for 26 dollars on steam
