If they can get this to work on consoles, I see no reason they couldn't get Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics on to a console. Might have to mod the UI a bit, but it could still work. I'd buy that shit in a heartbeat. Back when I still had a working pc, I tried Fallout 1. It was frustrating at first because I didn't know wtf I was doing. Which made it that much more satisfying when I figured it out. And the sheer openness and amount of choices was great.
This was made using a modern Game engine(unity) so it has the tools nesscary to get it working on a console. not to mention the code was documented properly so it could be ported.Fallout 1 and 2 was created using a proprietary engine in the mids 90s.trying to port over thoose games would be a complete nightmare, more then likely the would have to rebuild the game in a new engine. still the game will run on damn near any pc becouse of its age.just get the GOG version to avoid playing around with a bunch of ancient patches.
InXile updated a lot of the UI when they put out the Director's cut. Some of the nit picky stuff around the 5 minute mark was cleaned up. For instance opening safes etc is now much quicker. I also found the game frustrating early on due to difficulty and ended up restarting after 8 hours to create new characters. That helped a lot. I've played all the original Fallout games multiple times so I didn't expect it to be this difficult. That said, now that I've made new characters the difficulty is now something I enjoy.
W2 is playable and has a great story but W3 is a massive improvement in every conceivable way.
Should I play w2 before w3 or just go direct to w3
@@cyclonus01 straight to 3 in my opinion. A few characters from W2 show up but it’s not worth playing just for their background
@@brotheraugustine ok cool thanks for the tip
About looting: This game is just like JA2, if you are tried of looting the boxes and crates just don't do it. I don't loot everything in neither games... The drops from killing enemies are usually enough, unless you spray and pray too much.
Man, fantastic review. Its very refreshing to watch a review with actual knowledge of the game.
I'll stick with your channel for future western developed Role Playing games :D
fkin clickbait this is a 9 minute review!
REPORTED!
Oh, you!
Thanks for not fixating on fallout comparisons with this game.
As an unitiated to the old fallouts, this review seems much more true to reality (it is a standalone experience after all).
Another great review Haas, i was on the fence about this title as i love RPGs and have been wondering about this for along time. However i really don't have the patience/time that this game seems to need compared to other games with features like fast travel.
Thanks Haas!
Good timing, my friend was just recommending this to me and didn't know if it was worth full price.
Nice review, watched it before buying and now watching after completing the game. Damn, do I wish I found this game earlier. Wasteland 2 is Brain Fargo all right, the game reeks of Fallout 1 and 2 all over. I played both original Fallouts and loved both even tactics. Thus, while playing Wasteland you just keep thinking to yourself 'damn, this is the real fallout 3. If Bethesda didn't buy it this would just be it, I'm finally here.' If you want to play fallout as it was meant to be, go buy this now. Thanks.
Sure, it was on a budget so some design choices are archaic and graphics don't make you feel like batman. But underneath there are layers upon layers of rpg gameplay done by the most competent people in the industry.
So long, Rangers.
I really want to like and play this game - I grew up playing Wasteland and Fallout 1/2 - but the continuous dumbing down of rpg game mechanics in more recent times has apparently had a lasting effect on me, as I find it very annoying to micromanage and fiddle with minor details now. Man, I 've become spoiled - I used to like that stuff. =/
For me its just the steep learning curve. I only have about 6-8 hours a week for games and I don't want to spend half of it looking through forums on how to play. It sucks because I really like the idea of the game. If ammo and health wasn't such a problem and your characters had better aim then a stormtrooper. The game would be much better.
I'm watching this to see if I should buy Wasteland 2 or Overwatch, but I would be buying it on console. Do you have any thoughts?
I admit, I am a "completionist" as he puts it. Like when I'm playing XCom2 - I reload my games so much when a good character dies, it has to be PERFECT!! XD Need to start playing Ironman then, that puts hair on your chest!
Damn, I completely forgot this game came out. Need to pick this up along with Pillars of Eternity.
Fallout 1 wasn't this hard to get into (It is still a 2.5 hours), but I found this kinda sloppy, but I cannot wait to see this game get a sequel.
Wait so what number out of 10 would you give this?
where is the irrigation SYSTEM ???!!
Good review. I enjoyed both Arizona and California both equally but what I really liked about California is the visuals aesthetics, jungle+urban city is beautiful to look at.
Thank you for maintaining a high quality standard on your reviews. I am impressed with your professionalism compared to others in your field.
My main issue and it seems im not alone is i keep missing my shots, even when my hit chance is very high, miss miss miss
As for both the "Archaic UI" con you've pointed out, well, I'm not sure with what are you comparing to, as I don't play many games. But you've missed a point here.
You should have been comparing this game with its predecessors, which are Fallout and Fallout 2, which in turn are the sequels to the original Wasteland game.
So Wasteland 2 is actually what would be Fallout 3, or "Van Buren", if it was released at the time. Also, let alone the fact that the "real" Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 from Bethesda have a budget that doesn't compare to a crowdfunded game, this hsall be kept in mind while judging the UI.
That said, yes, the UI adds a lot to the slow pacing of the game. Still, I tend to make better choices when I have to "pause" to think about what will I sell, and it feels less boring than having to decide which items should be sold in Fallout 3 New Vegas, for instance, which was supposed to be an "action" fast paced game.
Talking about action, you haven't mentioned what happens when your surgeon gets unconscious in the middle of a battle with a bleeding wound trait, and you have to run around trying to use items while the clock ticks.
After both playing both pillars of eternity and divinity original sin and falling in love with them both i was looking for something similar when a friend suggested this. I gotta say i was disappointed the game design feels so archaic and.....unfinished. About 15 hours in i just gave up the pace was too slow and there was too much rng involved for my taste. This game's not in the same league as PoT or Divinity. I heard they improved it somewhat in the director's cut version so i think i might give this game another try.
best review I have seen of this game yet.
Excellent review! I will be getting this game - it is just a question of time as I am already "behind schedule". Also, I am hoping that a patch will come out addressing some problems with the game.
looks like an interesting game, but is it turnbased, reall time or mix of both?
Combat is completely turn-based, the rest is realtime.
is there VA
damn i have to read all the stuff i aint about that life

Great review, definitely going to buy this. Thanks for putting in the effort!
Long time no see bro. I was anticipating this game but it looks to be a little too tedious for me at the moment.
Too long! Got a few more videos planned for the very nearby future, hoping to step up the upload schedule a little!
As for the crappy start, well, the thing that I've liked is the many times I started all over again trying to save both cities in vain. It taught me which points I should put in the four characters when the game starts.
Also the bugs and pod people get nasty when you select the higher difficulty.
Wow very insightful, thanks.
Very helpful review; thanks.
Kinda confirmed what I was afraid of. Slow starts and bad UIs ruin already slow games for me completely. Might pick it up on the cheap sometime as it does sound decent otherwise. :)
gud job, well done. no bias here
Thank you. Great name!
HaasGaming you do great short and informative reviews keep up the good work
Should I buy this on ps4??? Is it worth 25 pounds
leightonstarr1 it's £8 on ps store atm
I'm so glad it was released but it's still a mixed bag for me.
I played thru 2 or 3 times , such an amazing game
i got the ps4 version simply because it was on sale for a good price and i figured whynot? i knew of course the pc would be 1000% better in terms of controlling my party and stuff. anyway, ive only played for an hour, won 2 battles and shut it off. its so cluunky with a controller. ill play it eventually, i just have a lot of other games i want to finish first.
maziku it's on sale for around $10 Where I live, would you recommend?
Good review as always
Nice review man :D
This review persuaded me to subscribe to your channel. Not enough good PC-reviewers on youtube now that can be trusted. IGN and Gamespot are bought.
I came here for a 70 hour long review , i bought all these fucking snacks and shit and its only 9 min :(
Easy solution, replay it 467 times!
It's getting a Switch release!
Very nice and balanced review. Gave me a neutral opinion of the game. You sir just won a suscriptor!
This reminds me of Fall out tactics :O
How dare you lol, seriously though its a great game, awsome story! sure it starts slow but once it gets going you'll be hooked.this review wasn't that great tbh but hey opinions and all...
This game reminds me Fallout Tactics but more detailed I gotta eat t lol...PS: nice video mate.......CHEERS
What I get out out of these reviews is that it's a bad game but because no one else is making this type of game people put up with all the problems
One of my favorite games.
Mine aswell cant wait for wasteland 3.
ty for the review
I think I'll give it a try. It's FREE right now on GOG for anyone else interested. The offer ends in about 44 hours as of typing this however.
1988? I thought Wasteland was 1998?
Your Problay thinking about Fallout 1(1997).
Thanks for this review. I decided to pass on this game. Why waste time (and money) on something with poorly implemented mechanics and fiddly UIs, when we have excellent games of this type like XCOM2?
just finished wasteland 3 an everything thats bad in this is clearly fixed on wasteland 3 :) exept the loading times between zones
its minds me of fallout 1 and 2
Wasteland is spiritual predecessor to Fallout series. The Wasteland 1 was made long time ago before Fallout. Following this sequel that come out 15 years later...
i want this game but im iffy about it :l
Why is "Atheist" down as a religion? Surely "None" means atheist.
Because it is...like scientism. One can't prove it and other dissprove it...to each other. One say "intent" other say "coincidence".
If you don't know 100% WTF all thing is about...and no one knows as it needs experience...then its a belief system. So proper term is "i believe there is no god" or whatever...those who didin't meet demons and other beings should say those days to not look like total fools with mind on rails.
None as in not stated, not the absence

I've just lost brain cells reading your dumb comment
If u like fallout 1 and 2 u'll love this game.
NOT
It's nothing like fallout 1 or 2. This game is like a fan made fallout 3. I liked fallout: tactics better than this game. Everyone is different, but the only way I would ever play this game again is if it was the only game I had. I really wanted to like this game, but I would rate it a 3 out of 10 it's pretty bad. Have you played fallout 1 ? It's about as good as 2
I played Wasteland 2 once and lost interest. Greatest RPG my ass. "Sorry, AG Center, I have no men to send to help you. Those 3 recruits in front of the gates, that dude cleaning graffiti off the wall, museum guy, the dude that handles recruits and all the other rangers inside the Citadel are extremely busy doing fuckall"
Oh and also apparently Nuclear fucking bombs are easier to disarm than booby traps, since with a bomb I had a 67% chance and 13% with a safe trap
thank you for the video, you saved me wasting money and time on something subpar
people need to stop playing CRPG's if they don't like skill checks
I am a huge fan of fallout 1 and 2 but this game was rather disappointing for me.
It lacks the atmosphere and story of the fallout games and tries to make it up through the tactical aspect. Unfortunately, much older games like Jagged Alliance 2 (or even 1) are superior in terms of tactics. There are no obstacles that may or may not block a shot, almost no terrain-based decisions, there is no stealth, there are no "I see you, you don't see me". The most important thing to do is be careful to not get spotted before getting into turn based mode, line up your party for a shot and get 1st turn initiative. After a few fight one gets the pattern down and fights become repetitive.
It is a crappier version of fallout combined with a crappier version of Jagged Alliance, yet still better than fallout tactics and by no means a bad game, just a mediocre one.
+Michalis Marolachakis Indeed, after playing it more I've come to conclusion that this is the best possible sequel to Wasteland, but it seems that Brian Fargo will never get togheter the original team of Fallout again.
Michalis Marolachakis They pretty much had to start from scratch after what happened with Bethesda bro. This game is unforgiving and infuriating at times but I think that makes it a little better than what you said. The aiming was really getting to me at first, nobody could hit shit and I'm like "YOU HAVE A SHOTGUN! THE ENEMY IS RIGHT NEXT TO YOU! HOW DO YOU MISS?!"
Wasteland 2 is a pathetic excuse for a game!
It forces you to play as the Disney good guy rangers, Do something the
game doesn't like and IT WON'T LET YOU LEVEL UP!!!!
Try to solve a problem your own way, IT WON'T LET YOU LEVEL UP AND
CONTINUE PLAYING!
You have to call into the ranger station to level up (because even if
you spend years doing something, say computer science for example, you
will never be better than the very first day you ever tried it unless
you call on a walkie talkie and tell someone about it) and it won't let
you call on said walkie talkie if you play in a way they don't want you
to!! "FULL OF CHOICES"????? LMAO!
Choice A? you can keep playing! GJ
Choice B? You played wrong, you can now get no better at anything ever
for the rest of your life no matter what.
Choice C? You played wrong, you can now get no better at anything ever
for the rest of your life no matter what.
Choice D? You played wrong, you can now get no better at anything ever
for the rest of your life no matter what.
Choice E? You played wrong, you can now get no better at anything ever
for the rest of your life no matter what.
Lazy excuse for a Fallout game. I don't want to be a Desert Ranger, I
want to be the people fighting the Desert Rangers. I am so tired of All
these "moral choice games" being an illusion where you can only play the
way they want you to and all you reviewers just eat it up, are paid by
them, or are just so lazy and ignorant you never tried playing the game
any other way than what was the most obvious and cliche way possible,
like they wanted you to, Such good Sheeple!!!!
The original two Fallouts you could leave the vault and guess what? YOU
COULD MAKE CHOICES!!! GO FIGURE HUH?
You didn't have to play a certain way or the game just stopped you, you
didn't have to save everyone, obey all the laws, rescue all the people
and rescue them just the way the game wanted. Heck they would turn you
into a super mutant if you so chose. Side with the super mutants and you
can still level up for God's sake.....Here if you do anything Ranger
Citadel doesn't like the GAME JUST STOPS? WTF? And you sorry game
reviewers say "Full of choices?" Did you even play this game? This game
LITERALLY HAS NO CHOICES, PERIOD. And then it has the audacity to just
end the game if you don't play their way. I mean this game cost money.
This is what consoles do to real games, they water it down for 5 year
old children who play just like mommy and daddy would want them to play.
This is supposed to be an RPG, where you can live out alternate lives
and realities. Should their be consequences for your actions, of course,
I want them. Shoot up a town and have people come after you or
something. You can't just end the game because I chose to kill a town,
WTF is wrong with you? I paid money for this crap.
After getting frustrated that I couldn't play at all how I wanted, I
thought I would try and play the way they wanted me to like a good
little Sheeple and guess what? I built a party around Angela Deth and I
get 1/3rd of the way through the game and "poof" like magic they make
her leave your party, she never returns, and they do it instantly and
won't let you kill her, she runs magically through the combat phase or
just disappears if you try and kill her before the combat phase, can't
strip her of gear or anything. I mean if your going to abandon my team
that I played and built around you, in the middle of radioactive horror
town, then I'm going to shoot you dead, Oh but wait, that would be an
RPG. This is just BS dribble for watered down child masses.
Even if I play the very strict way they want me to they still F*#k me. I
am so tired of these "moral, open ended, CHOICE" games not being any of
that but some linear good guy arc, or linear good guy arc
"sarcastically" Would it have been that hard for me to level up like a
normal person by doing things repeatedly and getting better at it? Would
it have been that hard for me to make MY OWN MORAL CHOICES instead of
being spoon fed them? Would it have been that hard for me to join RSM,
or DB instead of the Rangers if I have to keep leveling up that way?
Wouldn't that have been a decent middle ground if they were too lazy to
do it right by letting me just make my own choices? These BS
restrictions on these "restriction-less games" is really annoying and
these phony reviews full of lies or ignorance don't help anyone with a
brain.

I don't know what scares *me* more, the fact you went out of your way to post an insult to me personally without addressing any points or offering your own, or your presumed ignorance of people who might dislike something you like regardless of the *facts*.
Truth hurts, it's far easier to insult people and blindly like things......
+Death Mwauthzyx check out a game called "Underrail"
maziku
Just checked it out, thx for the tip. Looks good, I'll play it soon. I am disappointed that you don't get any companions or party and we'll see what the story/dialogue and their subsequent choices and world interaction "Underrail" provides. At this point I have found most people get the "turn based, iso action" but very few are good at crafting worlds, stories, player interactions, staying as a true RPG with skills, perks, varying methods of approach to things, changing stories ETC.
So hope they can do the latter better because I was not impressed by any of that in Wasteland 2, in fact I was quite annoyed at it.
yeah i figured wasteland 2 would just be a bunch of fights. i wasnt expecting any real role playing.
I'm pretty sure you've spammed this on at least 3+ Wasteland reviews.
you forgot the horrible graphics... also a big con...
+prygler they're not that bad. you're zoomed out the whole time anyways. and the art style is still solid
+prygler Well it did get an overhaul with the directors cut.
+prygler lmao graphics dont mean much to rpg players. its about the content. go play cod or something.......
Lee Brown I am a rpg player and graphics matter a lot to me for immersion. Bad graphics kills immersion, atleast for me, but I suspect a lot of other serious rpg players experience the same.
prygler good animations and great art style i find to be more important than graphics. BUt I get it. Video games are reliant on pleasing visuals, hence VIDEO games. If graphics didn't matter at all noone would play video games. My favorite looking RPG to date is pillars of eternity. Many would say Divinity original sin, or dragon age inquisition, or even bloodborne. But personally i think Pillars of Eternity looks amazing.
First.
To take it up the ass
Very oryginal 11/10 -IGN
+Irieora Gallenta Ironic you say that when you're the one who said "First". xD That's probably one of the most unoriginal comments you can come up with.
Drawback I'm glad you got it.
Frustrating sack of s**t game. Best companion f***s off and leaves you. Unless you study walkthroughs intently you will miss out on decent replacements, if you ever get that far! Go straight for wastelands 3 which is an awesome game instead.
