It’s fun that DARPA runs a RUclips channel showing off the stuff they were working on in the 1970s.
Yes I couldn't agree anymore, nevertheless there are several DOD patents supporting very advanced StarTrek science and technology programs.
Theres a very good reason they dont want us to know, and distraction seems to work well
@@georgefiotakis247 They don't care if you know, they care that other countries know and try to supersede them. Only reason they keep it confidential is because people like you can't be trusted.
@Toastpost1uhh, yes you mean like virtually every single "new" piece of technology. There are limitations and a limit to how much humans are capable of advancing in literally a speck of time in the scheme of innovations. The 70s didn’t have AI, LIDAR, EO/IR high resolution imagers and codes that can write themselves.
I guess you guys reinvented the wheel there
Jaron Schreiber underrated comment
*and they said it couldn't be done*
No
ye bc its shit. the "normal" wheel doesnt offer any advantages at this poit. it wont run at higher rpm for streetuse and has unbarable unfeathered mass for a wheel configuration in offroad environments.
and yes i am indeed fun at partys
Take this like, Sir. You've earned it.
Combines have had leveling technologies since the early 70's.
What's the purpose on them?

Google RUclips vanced. No ads and background playing
Is this an issue you’d like DARPA to fix?
It’s called RUclips Red
check out the new youtube music app :)
That reconfigurable wheel track would be amazing for my wheelchair so I don’t get stuck in snow.
I am not sure it's funny or sad your comment
@@TbilisiRustaveli it's neither. It's the truth from the commentor. Government's spend billions on their military. They should spend a little on assistive technology to help everyday citizens. Peace not war! Yea, I know, I'm just a dreamer but what a wonderful dream that is!!
@@TbilisiRustaveli he has a valid point. This would be extremely useful for people in wheelchair. imagine being able to go up or down stairs using your wheelchair
Leaps and bounds are being made in All Terrain Wheel Chairs at the moment, the future is brighter! :)
Lots of DARPA and other Government tech eventually hits the market once it's obsolete (like when they finally show it to the public) so I'd keep an eye out.
Years ago I recall reading a magazine article on some guys in Australia experimenting with a gas ram system that replaced the suspension springs & dampers. With a common air tank and valving they were able to maximise the wheel traction to a point where the pressure exerted across the tyres was equal, they had a hilux drive up a mud bank using highway terrain tyres with the wheels fully articulating diagonally. They were bought out..........
it protecc
it attacc
but most importantly...
its tire change to tracc

And this is the unclassified tech, imagine what they have hiding in the candy shop.....super exiting
Remember the stealth Black Hawks they used to get Osama?
They designed, tested, built, and used stealth Black Hawks and the only reason we even know is because one broke and they weren't able to completely destroy it!

@@marc0523 I know. But all the tech came from the cancelled Commanche. Hindsight says 'well of course they did this.. whatd we think they would do.. throw it all in the corner and not touch it?'
The funny part is.. it didnt crash because of any inherent flaw in the stealth design, it was due to an aerodynamic property caused by OBL's compound while hovering.
@AAJAA5 They blew it up, but missed the tail rotor (read the article)
It was a military operation into an friendly country without asking for permission, firing a cruise missile into a compound inside a city in that country as well would have been inconceivable.
Ya its cool and but I didn't see one cup holder...

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. Doesn't seem very practical.

Finally taking the windows out and enclosing people in armor. One thing that always bugged me about space movies like Star Trek hey look here is the bridge like a bullseye on this big circle. The Bridge should be in the center of the ship.
Yeah maybe if the shuttle had a central cockpit that had no windows and was a safe pod that had a way to deploy chutes from an internal tube if something happened, lets say blow up on re-entry or takeoff, there might have been some astronauts still with us today. Only morons think it is a good idea to have windows in deep space so they can be radiated easier or have something crack the window. If you look at the ISS the windows have big blast shields that can cover them I wonder why?
Kenny S So, Stew mentions space movies, giving Star Trek as an example (which does contain some purpose built warships that still have an exposed bridge), and you key on literally one ship that was designed for exploration and call him a moron?
Secondly, even exploratory ships should have a central bridge. It would protect the bridge from all sorts of natural phenomena that it may encounter, not to mention possible hostile contact. It's still sort of silly it's not centrally located. Regardless, there's no way his point makes him a moron, it was very sensible. Why'd you have to be rude instead of providing a sensible, civil argument?
Star trek is sci-fi fantasy not hard sci fi. If everything in it was made to fit within the forever changing vision of the future tech and realism it could not have showed us the adventures they did.
Vali Tyr and who told you that it's fantasy and not sci-fi? Star trek is sci-fi. And if you don't know it, it's time to learn it from me. Star wars was space opera fantasy. Everything in star trek was more or less possible ... There is nothing magical about it. Even Q is not magic. In fact the star trek heroes hated the idea of anything supernatural. ... And wanted to explain everything in a scientific way. Let's see Star trek shall we? Warp drive? Check .. theories exist and even NASA is working on it. Teleportation, check. We have done it already with subatomic particles. Assembling a big man made structure in space? Check... The IIS. The communicator? Check.. you have a smartphone. The tricorder? Check... There are now machines that can detect medi sl conditions. Scientific tricorder. Check... That too. Shuttle craft. Check. We had the space shuttle.. in fact the first test one was called Enterprise. Ion propulsion... check. . We have that on satelites. Cloaking technology. Check. We have electromagnetic bending materials that make things cloaked. So not only Star trek is SCIENCE fiction,... Buts it's helping to create the future. The cellphone was inspired by Star trek. The guy that built the first ion drive was inspired by something Scotty mentioned in an episode... And way more such examples. Star was has inspired nothing. Ok? Now run along.
Brett Friedrichsen sorry I'm a purist. When I talk Star trek I think of the original vision of Gene Roddenberry. He wanted Starfleet to be a positive peaceful thing. The warships came latter actually after Rodenberriy's death. The epitome of sacrilige is the USS vengence Wich was a silly concept. A huge ship that could be piloted by one person... Why have all that space? It was just big because jjabrams wanted somehow to scare with size making it intimidating. He is an idiot. Roddenberry is breakdancing in his grave with all the crap jjabrams and discovery has brought to star trek and now unfortunately is canon.
Need that last vehicle to deal with the potholes in my area.

lol this is already obsolete i promise.
throw a few ideas at the public and make a profit on them for a quick buck to fund other projects. atleast thats what id do.
They're most likely 50- 75 years ahead.
yeah i totally agree. they are at least 50 years ahead. considering modern times we advance in 10 years what use to take us 100 years.
Thank you DARPA, for giving us Internet, Automatic Driving machines, and many more cool inventions that is currently helping mankind
Awesome R&D. We are going to see some cool land vehicles within few decades.
All I see is maintenance maintenance maintenance.
All I see is advancements...
Would have said the same thing about the SR-71?
My first thought as well. Maintenance times would be huge and spare parts hard to get.
And with all this delicate, expensive high tech, the costs would be exorbitant.
That means jobs, jobs jobs.
Just curious... How many have you actually done maintenance on actual military equipment? Cause I did on M1 Abrams weekly for years. These things look insane and I would want no part in being a mechanic for one of those lol.
I'd give anything to be a fly on the wall during a top secret darpa meeting.

Pratt & Miller, the makers of METS, is the team that runs Chevrolet's GTE program and other stuff. I never knew they had created such an amazing suspension system.

This is so freaking awesome
Establish a degree of effectiveness from the use of a particular technology, accomplish results particular to the use you find individually from individual use of the technology. If I was the buyer this is my mental framework.
You can keep the driverless stuf, but I love the long suspension travel one a lot. I saw a civilian equivalent on yt somewhere that had far more capabilities than this one. I like this version for it's simplicity.
That is some amazing tech! So many possible applications, both within and without military :)
I think they are working on some really cool technology.

This is great. 10 more years and the US army can use this technology to automatically change afghan people in the 3D Video to shooting targets. This way the Tank Crew wont even notice that they are killing random people while playing GTA Kabul.

Wow, a lot of really interesting tech!
Awesome . Usually things are developed for citizen use then to military as a truck driver with over 5 million miles and a former US ARMY Vet I'd like to try some of these things

I believe we have radios and TVs among other things which were made for the Army first :v

This is all exciting stuff. It will help make our armed forces more capable while protecting our troops. Awesome.
Oh please, get outta here with that. We've been fighting a war against people with homebrew mines and ak-47s in the back of pickup trucks for over 15 years now and we've been losing. To think that some fancy tires and driver aid systems are going to fix what is fundamentally an international political crisis is silly. Will these technologies help in other areas? Sure. But right now they mainly exist to give people jobs for the sake of them having jobs, that's it.

Hope nobody has a EMP weapon....we will be screwed with all of those electronics.
killersushi99 it's pretty hard to do, most military hardware is strengthened to resist EMP attacks, and besides that I doubt anyone would deploy soldiers with EMP weaponry, seeing as right now, they're fairly short ranged and even then, wouldn't disable most hardware, except civilian hardware. Which even then, would only require a quick restart of the electronic in question.
Alex I hate how people delude themselves with fears of EMPs, hell most consumer electronic are inherently EMP/EMF hardened simple to avoid FCC violations. Remember people: anything that has a clock frequency in the GHz range is generating RF noise and dependent on the power output, requires metal shielding (which most [all] modern phones have) to stay within FCC radio noise guidelines. This metal shielding adds EMP/EMF hardness, besides alot of consumer hardware ICs have some level of static shock protection (humans can build relatively high static charges and devices need to be able to resist this) and as a result they gain further resistance. Not all ICs are built with such measures (think processors and NAND mem) and since the shielding is for internal noise reduction it isn't flawless but you can assume alot of your tech will just re-boot/set from an EMP.
MarcTBG Exaactly
USA has emp since 70s, we are well prepare.
+killersushi99 -- In case the others are mistaken and EMPs do pose a significant threat: one option would be to keep conventional windows installed, with panels of heavier armor covering them. A mechanical latch accessible from the inside could make the armor panels come off (but keep the bulletproof glass in place). That way, if cameras go down, they would at least be able to see where they were driving, albeit with less protection
Wow, it's amazing how this advanced defense industry can do wonderful things for the United States! go ahead darpa!!!
Those 3 gear electric rims... I have a NEED for those.....
