Thanks to everybody who checked out the last video! I'm seriously flattered by the support on it, and it really helped motivate me to wanna get this one out the door too. I pretty much started working on this script right after I finished the last one, and I hope I can keep making these about every two to three weeks. With the holidays coming up, it might be a bit harder to maintain the schedule, but I'll do my best.

Special thanks to @CaetsuChaijiCh for chatting with me about my last video and giving me some feedback and pointers! Go subscribe to him if you haven't already, he has some amazing guides and fun content while being highly informative, and has been a heavy inspiration on this series!
Extra special thanks to Unabara Dhoro, Macaiah Altina, and Astrid Valthyr, for joining me on that Great Gubal Library run so I could get HUDless footage. I didn't have any friends on to do the run with, so I put up a PF and recruited some people so I wouldn't subject some poor roulette to my shenanigans.

idk this is something larryzaur puts in his descriptions it seems important Игры
Okay I gotta say it you maining Dragoon as a Lala is hilarious to me, I don't know what it is about that combination but it just sparks laughter out of me
@@DarkKnightofAnime the friction between taking this game as seriously as physically possible while playing a tiny little dude is like 95% of what keeps me going
It's the edginess of the job, and the fact they jump so high to yeet themselves into enemies, all in the form of a cute potato.
@ calling jump "self-firing potato cannon" from now on
You missed the reason of "I get to cosplay the ff4 logo."
Dragoon is the most iconic *and* unique job of Final Fantasy as a whole. Other jobs are as iconic visually, like White, Black and Red Mages, but their concept is pretty standard in other fantasies. Dragoons are the only knight-archetypes whose gimmick is stratospheric jumps, and using mainly lances rather than swords.
Dragoon main for life! We blackflippin' off edges with ✨style ✨
@@AnonymousPreviews That's right.
I started the game playing as dragoon because the aesthetic of it and my love for dragon themed charters (Dragon Slayer from Adventure quest is such an example) and when you go into the final fight of HW jumping off the back of Hrasvelgar and slow walking towards Nidhogg with your dragon slaying was just chef kiss pure badassery
also the 3:50 is so real
Drg will forever be my fav class simply b4 I jump rly rly high and then shit happens
Holy hell that monk hotbar has me infuriated lol
But still. Love the video
Cool
I started playing the game in Endwalker (I made an account in Stormblood, but didn't click with the game), and it took me the entirery of Endwalker... To get to Endwalker (I was a roulette fiend, so I had almost every job at 70 or 80 by the time I got there). Despite this, Dragoon became my melee DPS of choice, and it's the class I ended up going into end-game content with in Dawntrail.
Losing Dragon Sight between EW to DT really stung. I really liked that button, and was actually very skeptical of the rework. After getting to 100 in Dawntrail, I ended up mostly enjoying the busy burst windows.
Now with 7.1... The class just feels so hollow. 1 minute burst feels terrible, and it just kind of highlighted the fact that when I'm not bursting there just isn't much going on... Weird to me that removing 2 weaves ruined the job for me, but here we are.
I still play it when I don't feel like trying hard, and it's still my favorite melee DPS aesthetically, but I just enjoy playing Monk so much more now when I actually want to focus on a fight.
I'm really hoping a patch rectifies this, but looking at all the changes that have happened so far... I'm not holding my breath.
Nevertheless, I quite enjoyed hearing your story. Thank you for sharing it! Looking forward to your opinions on the other classes. Honestly, I'm almost inspired to do something similar once I get more experience on the game.
Paladin main here, but I have a measure of love for all jobs (that's part of why I main Paladin). I really enjoyed this and I hope for/look forward to however much more content you make!
Historically in the Final Fantasy series, Monk was the only melee damage dealer to exist, but Dragoon soon appeared in the sequels as a playable job, and it is far and away the more iconic and unique of the two.
Bearing that in mind, this thematic contrast between Monk and Dragoon is also reflected in the lore of FFXIV. Both Monks and Dragoons employ similar means by which to empower their bodies and techniques with aether, but while Monks are focus on erasing their egoes to achieve enlightenment through their faith in Rhalgr, the Dragoons are all about stealing the power and skills of their foes to empower themselves as individuals. Both paths potentially lead to something beyond human, but one is religious while the other is egoistic.
@@HamsterPants522 i think you're gonna like my paladin video then, i'll be digging into how well pally specifically hits job fantasy REAALLY well compared to some of the other jobs in the game
thanks for the info comparing monk and dragoon!! thatll give me a little bit to dig into on monk, cuz that one is gonna be a struggle
i Pretty much had played only dragoon up to 2018 cause because Kain ff4 is my idol and spears are cool for me and at the time of Shadow bringers had leveled all classes to 80, and I do also pretty much play and manage the hotbar for other classes based on how i set Dragoon years ago too
your set up is completely foreign for me but same thought proccess
I started playing again since heavensward and love the dragoon play style, wish i never took a break maybe i was too busy
yeah, but you gotta remember that its just a game. life always comes first. as long as the servers are still running, it'll always be here when you are ready. and looking at FFXI's longevity, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
I main Dragoon and i can't see that changing. I do like Gunbreaker and Pictomancer though.
You should share your hotbar layouts for the controller.
I have always wanted to try dragoon. I got to level 70, stepped away for awhile, came back, and now I’m completely lost with the class and left it alone since.
I do really like the attack animations. Reaper has satisfying ones as well.
Any tips to help get back into it?
Honestly, just build it back from the beginning. The way I learn advanced jobs that start at higher levels is to just go through all the skills one at a time, and piece together how they fit as you go through the levels. If you're really lost, a new run of Palace of the Dead can be a really good way to give yourself an enforced crash course through the basics.
Failing all that, look up some youtube guides! Caetsu Chaiji Ch. and Wesk Alber are my personal go-tos.
Looking forward to the explanation of the Red Mage class, aka my main class in FF14 with the Dragoon being secondary.
The Sage and Ninja video also interests me so.. looking forward to it!
@@Evilriku13 spoiler alert: there's gonna be a lot of verjokes
Everyone can pick up a lance... However guns are even easier.
Y'know what, I actually forgot about the Machinist guild's whole thing when I wrote that. Thank you for the reminder!
Before guns, lances were the everyman's weapon
Takes skill to use a sword
Aint no skill required to stab or shoot
I'll be entirely honest: I haven't been the biggest fan of Dragoon. Partially because of how clunky it was when I first started playing (2019 just after Shadowbringers released), partially because so many others played it, making it hard to actually get a chance to hold on to. And partially because I didn't enjoy the combo system because HOW ARE YOU MEANT TO GET A 10 PART COMBO SYSTEM TO WORK ON HOTBARS.
It has probably been on the bottom of my played melee jobs for years, and I've desperately wanted to try to play it properly. So when it finally came time to level it to get everything to 100 in Dawntrail, I was a little nervous because I was expecting to feel like I was flying by the seat of my spear, and I absolutely did. But wow did the changes they made for Dawntrail really smooth things out, especially with the Nastrond change in 7.1. I know it has absolutely lost a lot of the flavour people knew and loved Dragoon for (I shall remember the twizzler tether forever), but I can say very comfortably right now that Dragoon is probably the best melee to start with, and it's not a bad one to stick with either. I don't think I can ever get away from my true love Reaper, but it's absolutely gotten a "yeah I'll learn this for when there's a Reaper and I need to make space" over time, which I don't think I'd have ever expected with Dragoon. It's real good
@@Lordwhizzkid yeah I can definitely sympathize with a lot of this, and honestly if I had started the game more recently, I would probably all be all in on reaper. dragoon is definitely in a much more healthy place than it was back in the day, even if i'm grumpy about losing my leash and my nastronds (go look up ring of thorns sometime too to see what they REALLY took from us)
Your comment is the perfect example of how they changed dragoon for people who didn't like it before. I was a former dragoon main but the job feels so empty now after losing every mechanic it had and the nastrond change in 7.1 was the last straw.
@@ek9750 i'm VERY grumpy about the nastrond change. i don't have a lot of hope for it, but i hope that either gets reverted, or the major combat reworks coming in 8.0 push dragoon back to feeling more unique to play again
@@Bonzi77 I'm hopeful for 8.0 that dragoon will become better but we'll have to wait and see. Just kinda sucks that we have to play with a bare bones job right now for 2 more years.
I used to main dragoon in stormblood and shadowbringers but the job has lost all its mechanics and flavor. There is nothing to manage at all you just alternate between your 2 combos and press your ogcds when they're up with 0 thought especially with the recent nastrond change the burst phase is not even busy anymore.. it also lost a lot aesthetically there is no permanent blue aura anymore or the red tether from dragon eye and all the jumps beside stardiver are so fast now that you can't even see them anymore
i definitely agree that drg (and a lot of other jobs) have lost a lot of mechanical flavor over the years.... i still think about ring of thorns sometimes 😢
