Hi Rahdo. I just got this game (including plenty of the expansion packs) last month and I'm having a great time. My partner and I are always on the lookout for cooperative games that aren't too heavy and can be set up quickly. This is an ideal game for us and we're happy to play this to completion. We just finished the first boss/Master in Ruin of Thandar and they enjoyed it!
Thandar sounds great, but I can see the flaw in the positional seating conflict. I like that it represents an RPG with field movement, but the lack of ability to assist certain co-op players in a 4&5 player game seems like it falls short. In a D&D campaign (and most tabletops and RPGs) players can move (within limits) to aid and assist their companions. Here’s a rule variant I’m working on I and want to try... If you are not sitting next to the player you wish to assist then you must spend one card from your hand to assist (this would represent the extra movement action). This could be done where you can spend a card and physically change seats at the table so the effect would last without the card spending every turn, but that’s up to your group. Of course, in other games, players are able to reposition in between rounds for the next combat. Once combat is entered you have penalties for “leaving engagement” that could be represented by loosing a set amount of health (full or half value of the previously engaged creature attack). Just a thought to fix the higher player count. Larger groups have always been a staple of RPGs for the social aspect. Maybe this will help. Any suggestions/tweaks are welcome. Enjoy!
This is on my short list. If you had to compare this to Thunderstone quest or Harry Potter Hogwarts deck builder. Which one if either would it be closer to?
@@rahdo thanks I am still learning the ropes of this hobby and am trying not to get too many games that are similar for space and money reasons. I already have one of the core boxes for pathfinder so I think I will stay with that one for now.
Hey Rahdo do you plan to playthrough duelosaur? it's a 2 player version of Dinosaur Island! It's currently in kickstarter and would love to see a playthrough of this game and of course what your final thoughts are. Thanx and keep up the good work!
that would be an interesting idea, but you'd have to physically get up and move to keep track of stuff, which would be a pain as you often have a LOT of cards in front of you
You could use number cards. Each player has a specific numbered card, ie I would always be 1. that card is always in the middle. The other cards would be 2-4. each player then puts the people they are next to's number on the side of their number, ie 2-1-4. Showing that player 2 is to my left and player 4 is to my right. It would be a little fiddley but Im sure we could come up with a good system to keep track easier. It pretty much the same as initiative in a d&d game.
Hi Rahdo, do I need to buy a pack of heroes for playing The Ruin of Thandar? Do you get a better experience of a dungeon game in Hero realms with this expansion rather than in Warhammer Quest? Thanks
@rahdo Hey rahdo ! thank you for an awesome final thought I have a question (people probably asked you a lot already) I just played star realms and hero realms once (personally felt that hero realms was a little too "snowball?") and I'm deciding which should i get I Want to know which would you recommend based on for competitive (1v1)/ solo and group competitive (3 or 4 players) also personal preference Ps. I heard you just moved in ? hope you are doing great at new place ! thank you in advance
i'm not the best person to ask as i don't enjoy the competitive angle of the 'realms' gameplay system. probably better off asking folks on boardgame geek. i can say that cthulhu realms as a base box is superior to star realms and hero realms, IMO :)

awesome. fyi there's a new legacy version of star realms (the sci fi version of hero realms) that includes a co-op mode :)
Great video! I appreciated your co hosts perspectives. Really looking forward to trying this game some time.
Does Dominic have a review channel? He has a really good perspective.

i'd say this is closer to harry potter, in that potter and this are a big lighter, while TQ gets much more complex in card funtions
Have you tried the dragon/lich boss decks!?
nope :(
what do you think of this game as compared to Pathfinder Adventure Card Game?
hmm, they're both good, but i think i prefer pathfinder (which is saying something, because i'm not a fan at all of roll to resolve)

nope, they didn't contact me about covering that one
star realms frontiers will have co op
They need to add an element or card or something that allows you to change your position.
that would be an interesting idea, but you'd have to physically get up and move to keep track of stuff, which would be a pain as you often have a LOT of cards in front of you

oh and also will base game be enough ? or will expansion is kind of necessary to improve experience for either of it
