- What happens when a Centrifugal Fan (3 phase) is wired so that it runs in the opposite direction to normal (ie in Reverse)?
It has been estimated that around 7% of all centrifugal fans are running in Reverse!
How can that possibly be?
Wouldn't it be opposite that it was running in Reverse?
Ahh! See this video for some possible explanations.

Thank you for making this video.
Dyslexia would dictate that if the fan moved in the opposite direction, the air movement would flow in the opposite direction...which obviously isn’t the case.
As you said, the inlet will draw air in, in either direction, but it will only push that air out efficiently in the correct direction.
Having an example of this for people to watch is great. Thanks again!
Amazing demostration.
Sir by rotating in reverse direction what will be the outlet velocity increases or decteses
How is the fan power consumption affected by reverse operation?... excellent video by the way 👍
Almost same Amps if backward inclined fan
Was this a forward blades fan?
What’s the name of the device on the wall that reverses rotation?
Sorry Janik - has taken some time to get back to you. The device you refer to is an Inverter. This company shows and describes Inverters for many application requirements: acdcdrives.co.uk/index.php?route=product/search&search=inverters
