I’ve heard a psychologist say that abstract numbers mean almost nothing to us. If you tell people in numbers just how much damage we’re causing to the environment and the stark implications for us and life in general, it doesn’t do much to mobilize them. We need stuff that we can relate to, to which we can easily derive a meaning, something like images.

Yes I just love catching the 9am surf in London on plastic lmao. Dont know if accurate and true are correct words to use. Unless you mean it as a metafor for all our current main stream political partys lies and controlling actions and blaming and punishing the people for their friends and families owning these businesses polluting the world in the first place.

I am all in support of pointing out the problem, but what we really need is for people to find and develop the solutions.
They could start by bringing in the Deposit Return Scheme they talked about in 2018. They second consulation is running at the moment, a year behind, please have your say and convince them to bring it in ASAP.
Sounds good but it won’t help this issue. What the video exposes is that when we put a plastic item in the recycling (as with a deposit return scheme), our government sends 90% of it overseas where it may well be dumped/burned.

It's great way to visualise the impact of throwing plastic, well done green peace, i have been donating to green peace for few years now,and hopefully I have contributed a little bit towards this campaign.
There should be not only Boris on the video,but the previous UK PMs, ministers, and leaders of those countries who accept the garbage.

This is why I am taking part in Plastic Free July this year - we generate far too much plastic waste which is then shipped to other countries to deal with, who simply cannot cope with it.

Very powerful message. Also Isn't this locals governments fault as well. Why are they selling waste management solutions while clearly profiting from it by dumping it locally. Its much broader problem starting at individual level.

How sad! The government does indeed have a responsibility but so does every individual who buys, uses and 'recycles' plastic products. There are now alternatives for pretty much everything. We have a basically plastic free bathroom, cleaning products, personal hygiene products and most food products too. It can be done! It just requires some thought, some research and a willingness to do our bit. If anyone has any item they are struggling to find a plastic free option for - post it here and lets see if we as a community can help!

Best environmental advert I've ever seen
Why are people still buying things in plastic bottles, chicken and egg, shops sell it, people buy it, this could be tackled at the manufacturer end, or the consumer end but really it needs BOTH. We need zero waste shops like the one near me where you can get your bottles of washing up liquid refilled, oat milk comes out of a dispenser, and all the fruit and veg is sold loose along with nuts, rice, sultanas, and even spices. My bin is wondering what happened. I have almost NO rubbish whatsoever, just a few glass jars/bottles and a few steel cans, and there is no ocean full of either of those. Demand change. Vote with your wallet when you shop. If there's no eco friendly shop in your town / village... start one.

Greenpeace might like to investigate why nearly all freight trains on fully electrified lines in UK are now hauled by polluting diesel locomotives and why a number of good electric locos have been sold abroad and why others stand rusting away in sidings at Crewe etc. When the whole journey is on electrified tracks it doesnt make sense.
