What is a Venogram? | AHVC

In this video, Dr. Behzad Molavi, Interventional Cardiologist and Endovascular Disease specialist at AHVC, explains how venograms can help detect venous disease. Usually, when we consider venous disease, we think of varicose veins or spider veins in our legs. However, these conditions can indicate a more serious condition that could be detrimental to our overall health, which is why venograms may be required.
Dr. Molavi describes how a venogram is a procedure that takes pictures of the veins by inserting small tubes or catheters into the body to examine both the superficial and deeper vein systems. Venograms can take pictures from the ankle veins up to the heart or from the thigh veins up to the heart. Once the deep vein system is assessed and treated, AHVC specialists can then focus on the superficial veins, which are the varicose and spider veins.

What if dye cannot be used due to anaphylaxis? Is there still a catheter used for other reasons? Or is it just an over the skin ultrasound procedure at that point?
