There are only a few (but very important) basic ideas: quickness to go around, shoot or pass; fakes to force the defender to move out of your way; spacing to maintain options. Defenders need to keep spacing right too. Too close and the offense goes around you or you foul. Too far away and you can't go for the ball or guard a shot. This spin move is a thing of beauty. It can be all about quickness, but it can also be fakery and quickness combined. It can be about the drive or just lateral spacing to shoot.

I remember watching Kobe/Lebron doing this but from the post a lot when I was younger. I added it to my game and it works a lot more than it doesn’t. Especially when you fake a spin with just a slight head turn then go directly to the hoop the other way

Good move. Simple setup but if someone is d’ing up your back 30 feet from the rim they deserve to get burned.

I think one other detail you missed is that when he splits his stance, his leading food is parallel or ahead of his defender's foot. That gives him a bit more edge. It's somewhat similar to a drop step post move.
Also, love this new vid format. I've always liked your film analysis, so combining it with a training demo adds the finishing touches

I always appreciate you putting videos like this out. Brings a lot of insight into footwork while handling.
Kobe used this move a lot, using hops to get into his post position. He'd combo this move with others like the dream shake or straight into a left-turn or right-turn fadeaway.
Isaiah Thomas used to do this move but he split it in half, making it look like a half spin before the NBA ruled it a travel/carry.
Keep it up brother, I come to your channel to polish up on details in my game and for simple reminders. God Bless.
