  • An interview of COL(ret) John Sherner conducted by the VA students of the United States Army Graduate Program in Anesthesia Nursing. COL Sherner has been a part of Army Nurse Anesthesia since 1970 and retired following this class. From his time as a Staff Nurse in the ER for the 24th Evac Hospital in Vietnam to caring for our veterans at Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio, COL Sherner has resolutely cared for soldiers and veterans. As a faculty member and eventually Director of USAGPAN from 1982 until 1989, COL Sherner guided numerous classes who went on to care for thousands of soldiers and veterans. As well, COL Sherner was a stauch advocate for Army Nurse Anesthesia during his time as the Consultant to the Surgeon General.
