Update: I had no idea about Jordan Peterson’s views and neither did my brother 😣 we will definitely be doing better research on authors from here on out 🤦🏽♀️
Wait what are his views?
Hey Khalilah, I'm a MD and an avid reader writting you from Portugal! Really love your vlogs and book recommendations. On the Jordan Petterson point you don't need to explain yourself on reading his books. I mean, he has his political position well defined as a lot of people may know, and whilst I may not agree on every single issue he comes with I mean... he should be recognized for how easy it seems to be for him, through a lot of practice I imagine, to put his thoughts into words and knowing how to discuss a lot of topics. I, for myself, now know what I agree or dont because I read his books, and I believe I grew a lot with that. Hope you continue to share your readings regardless :) will be following you to know what comes next!
i absolutely adore your response to this, when i heard that you were reading 12 rules for life my heart dropped because in my experience that is THE gateway to the J.P. rabbit hole. I immediately went to the comment section being like girl noooo only to be greeted with the best comment ever. Thank you for listening!! For those who may also be unaware but J.P. has spiraled over the years to being an extreme alt-right figure, as well as making his claim to fame on rejecting trans acceptance as a university professor at UofT. It's important to be mindful of the people we consume content from. You can always choose to separate the work from the artists but it should be an educated decision! Happy reading everyone :)
i don't think u should explain yourself. if someone is intrigued by a certain author or book, hell yeah buy it, say that u bought it, u are a book tube channel. i don't focus on that, but on your funny and relatable personality. u have a brother, which recommended it, so what. i personally thought, holy cow they have a good relationship with one another and recommend books to eachother , not OMG HE RECOMMENDED WHAT. yall that made the petterson comments chill
Hi! Don’t worry Khalilah, his books and shorts are very interesting! I find that reading people that aren’t as accepted gives us a bigger perspective. Don’t feel like you need to apologize for agreeing with a problematic figure, he does say interesting things that make you think in different ways. One should never apologize for expanding their horizons.
as someone with no book money, I am absolutely living through you. love these bookstore vlogs
Same! I'm too poor to be buying book.😅
Sameee right
I do hauls at the library.
Carmilla is so underrated and yet its an important book for its time. To write about a saphic vampire back then amazes me. I used to love watching the youtube series carmilla as a kid. To me she is everything a vampire should be.
GIRL I AM SO PROUD OF YOU FOR GETTING MISERY! I am the Misery person from the comments and 1. I almost fainted when you mentioned me, 2. If it won’t be an at least 4.5 star read, I promise to buy and send you your next Stephen King. But listen however much crazy and Misery obsessed I sound, it blew my mind. Don’t put it off for too long!!!
The Stages of Book Buying by Khalilah D: 😂
1. Denial
2. Delusion
3. Acceptance
4. Grief (of money lost)
5. Screaming (preferably alone in the car)
6. Evacuation
7. Excitement
Cute outfit & PJs! Great, balanced book haul! Great vlog! Much love girl! ❤
SCREAMING!!! Now Portia you did NOT have to diagnose me like dat 😫😭😭😭🩷
We don't need selfcontrol we need books!!!
Love your uploads and your whole vibe ❤
A book I’m currently reading that I absolutely adore is “what you are looking for is in the library” by Michiko Aoyama. It’s a very sweet book that revolves around a librarian in Tokyo who knows what you want / need in life and offers you a book to help you get there, and you follow four individuals as they find this librarian and embark on a huge change in their life via the book they’ve been recommended. It’s so wholesome and very cosy, about learning new things and that it’s never too late to go for what you want in life!
Misery was my first Stephen King book last year. Since then I’ve read 16 of his books and Misery is still my favorite!!
I recently read Pet Semetary and loved it!
I LOVE your channel! I think you’re better than the other well known book vloggers like Haley Pham and Destiny Sidwell!! You pick such a different variety of books that it makes it not boring or repetitive. You’re so relatable and sweet! I love when you said you blacked out in B&N! That’s totally me. I look forward to your videos and can’t wait to see more!
Omg you’re the sweetest Mandy! Thank you for your kind words, I’m so happy you enjoy my content ❤
Haley Pham to me seems more about quantity than quality
That’s why I follow her!! She has such a variety in book recommendations ❤
@@khalilahd. ❤
Yes!! I agree! @@hallielam
Okay but who had the better pumpkin? 😏🎃
Both!! ❤
Cozy vibes aside (which we always get from your vlogs), I just LOVE how intentional you are with the people around you! Thank you for sharing these glimpses of sisterhood and love with us! Much love to you!
why am I just seeing this!!! thank you so much for your kind words Jenny. this means so much 🥹🫶🏽
@@khalilahd.
The relationship you and your sister have is the one I hope to have with mine one day when she comes along❤️ you’re both absolutely gorgeous and you can feel the love and respect between the two of you it’s so pure 😭❤️ side note, we have such similar tastes and personalities that I’m now convinced if we ever met be instant friends 😂 the amount of times I’ve blacked out in a bookstore 😩😂
I just finished "It" by Stephen King a couple of days ago and I really really recommend reading that book. I've always been intimidated by its length and it really took me a couple of weeks to get through it. But - I'm sooo glad I read it. It's just stunning. It's so much more than just a horror novel. It's about friendship and growing up and it really touched my heart.
omg khailah i LOVE your content so much!! Really wish I had a best friend like you cause you're just everything- your energy is just infectious and adorable! loving the cosy, autumnal content xxx p.s the end of this video made my heart melt aaaaaah fellow introverts unite
aww thank you Aaliyah! you just made my day 💜
@@khalilahd. stop right there- cause you make MY day when you upload
OMG The Kite Runner, a literal masterpiece!
Can’t wait to read it!
One of my favorites, getting ready to reread it. So good.
I was searching for a cozy bookish vlog all day and then I saw your notification, i'm so happy 😄
yay!! Hope you like it! 💜
No disappointment here, I was cheering you on, girl! So many great reads! 😍
the cookie on top of a cookie 🍪 is such a power move
in the theme of thrillers The Final Girl Support Club by Grady Hendrix is such a fun read
i’m also almost done with Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine, guuuurrrrl that book is tearing me up 😭
I thought I was the only one on this Earth that’s insane about buying books, but NO….!
You and I are THE SAME when it comes to buying new, fresh beautiful books! They’re like little gems.
I absolutely love your enthusiasm for books❣️❣️❣️📕 📚
Keep it up, I love your book buying adventure vlogs 🩷❤️🥰
Walmart and hobby lobby have the fleece fabric.
After watching this I feel like I need to make a book run this week.
Omg thank you! I’ll try them next time ☺️
I’m at the point where I see Khalilah’s videos on my FYP and immediately like :’) I love these videos! Rewatch all the time for the cozy vibes!
Refreshing to see how excited you are over reading, books, and learning. Hope you can continue to enjoy that in life. Your hair is very nice as well.
8:25 I don't know about the rest of the guys in the comments but to me what you did is pretty normal, you buying so many books shows your a genuine bookworm and to me, nothing's better than being a genuine bookworm❤
"Moment of silence for my wallet."
I felt that so much
Love your bookstore vlogs!
ive always loved khalilah, but khalilah as a jack edwards fan? CRYYYING! thank you for the cozy video, it really made my stressful day better!
I love the Thursday Murder Club! I have the Joy Luck Club on my list as well. Now that my library has joined a currier service with bigger towns around me, I will not have to buy as many books although i only buy 2 to 3 a month.
Tender Is The Flesh is iconic. I can't read it but I'm obsessed with the cover 😅
the convenience store woman is one of my all time favorite books!!! i hope you love it!!!
Definitely would look into Peterson before platforming, just a heads up! What he talks about and his position on things
Yeah I was really shocked to see him mentioned in this video. 🤢
I’ve read many Stephen King books, and Salem’s Lot is one of the scariest books I have ever read. I read it many years ago (I’m old enough to be your grandmother) I love your channel. I’m smiling the whole time!😊
This vlog was the best! I go and buy books every freaking week! So you are doing pretty good!
omg i’m early 😮 i’m with you on expanding my book library to intellectually stimulating kinds. I like your viewpoint when it comes to being open and learning new things. your channel inspires me to branch out and i really appreciate that 🩷 I love the covers they did on the classics
im just letting you know that Holly is part of a series. Anda Kent did a a video on the books you need to read first
T Kingfisher is one of my all time favorite authors!! I hope you love What Moves the Dead! I highly recommend reading Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allen Poe before reading it however to get the full vibes. I'm living vicariously through you, since I try to not buy books unless I've read/loved them because I have such limited space and tend to drop books so fast (my library is the real mvp), but would looooove to do that kind of damage in Barnes
The Alchemist is my all time favorite book. I read it over and over. It’s so good! I hope you enjoy!
Bars on bars on barsss!!! 🔥🔥🔥 such a cute video!!! I used to have days like that with my little sister! 😩 We’d go out to eat and then go to the movie theater 🥰💕
I used to read novels in my college days and I used t be very peace minded but then I left and got into depression al,it's my first time to across to your vedio and I'm excited to start reading again... Thank you so much
FINALLY A NEW BOOKSTORE VLOG OMG THIS IS THE BEST ONE YET😭
🥹🫶🏽
Yay! When I saw that you posted a new video, I said “Khalilah!” Instant happiness! 😁😆 I was not a happy camper this morning. Thanks for bringing me some sunshine. ☀️ I swear your channel is like therapy! You have no idea. 🥹🫶🏽📚
No judgment here. Book Hauls are the best. We only live once and if books make you happy, buy as many as you want. 😊 The pumpkins were so cute.
I love your facial expressions, you make every video so vivid, can't wait for the book reviews that are about to come🧡🩵💜

This was such a cute vlog ❤ So excited for you to read Pride and Prejudice 🥰
Great video! Awesome selection! Impressive cart! And I really like your “Marty McFly jacket!”
You should see my apartment. I am the book hoarder from eastern Canada. I keep buying books. We go into a whole new world when either of us go into a book store. You and your sister look like you had a great time. The cookies looked awesome. Have a great week. Love and hugs to you both.
Man do I love your bookstore vlogs ❤❤❤ And those beautiful books... So satisfying.
I just finished Carmilla yesterday! I actually did some research because I was interested in it and by chance Carmilla is the first written Vampire book! I say by chance because there are 2 poems of vampires that came out before Carmilla. The very first one just mentions a vampire in passing and isn't part of the plot of the poem and the second one is pretty much the same plot of Carmilla, it being a lesbian vampire. I think you're gonna like it I highly recommend listening to a playlist that goes with the book also I will say how it was written is kinda tricky to get into because of it being written in 1871.
what's the poems names?
@@andia.x The names are Thalaba The Destroyer by Robert Southey (1801) and Christbel by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1816).
Also I went back looking for these names and even though I found the text that I copied in my notepad on my phone, saying the first poem was the first mention of vampires in english literature, though the first vampire poem ever was Der Vampire (The vampire) by Heinrich August Ossenfelder (1748).
Also the first vampire books started in 1819 starting with the unfinished Fragment of a Novel by Lord Byron who was in the same writers club and wrote this story in the summer of 1816 at the same ghost writing contest where Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein/The Modern Prometheus. Lord Byron's unfinished work inspired The Vampyre by John Polidori's (1819) and there's also The Black Vampyre by Uriah D'Arcy (1819).
So I messed up in my research but Carmilla (1871) might not be the first Vampire book but it's still regarded as the first lesbian vampire book!
What Moves the Dead is so good. Read it in one day this month. Absolutely recommend for spooky fall vibes.
Can’t wait to read it!
I loved Fourth Wing. It had me happy, sad, and angry at times.📚
Girlll u should’ve gotten the special edition of fourth wing it’s for preorder on Barnes with a bonus chapter!!!!!
The video hasn't even started yet but I'm so excited to watch!! 🤎
I am so glad you got Salem’s Lot. Now that’s a scary book, Misery is good but it’s more a psychological thriller. Salem’s Lot is as Halloween, scary, autumn perfection. You are going to have fun.
I had a friend read 12 Rules For Life and I’ve been meaning to pick it up, I just haven’t gotten around to it! I finished Atomic Habits a couple of months ago and I liked it, it wasn’t groundbreaking or life changing by any means, but it was good. I also decided earlier this year that I needed to get into Stephen King’s books and for some reason thought The Stand would be a good idea as my first one… it’s over 1,000 pages long 😂
I am also currently reading my first Stephen King book, Salem's Lot. His ability to make reading a book heart pounding is incredible. Look forward to seeing your reaction to your first Stephen King.
hey
I was soooo happy to see your notification pop up on my screen after working on my essay all day and when I saw it was another bookstore vlog I almost jumped out of my seat 🩷🩷 love love love this type of videos ❣
you look so pretty Khalilah, the self control is out the window when it comes to books! 🤎😂
I always get good recommendations from your videos ❤ love this channel so much
Thank you 🥹🩷🩷
the third good girls guide to murder, as good as dead, is my favorite in the series!
“The joy luck club” sounds so interesting, I have never heard of it but it sounds so unique
Aaaahhh there's also something like little free libraries... ;) in case you're getting broke :D
You’re such a ray of sunshine lol love your videos!
You look great in green and you did what we all do! So relatable! Still recovering from book shopping this month after a surgery cause I thought I’d be resting and need more books (really it was just two massive bills, but I did read 28 books this month).
I love how wide your taste of books is, Like you try to read classics, fantasies, and etc. not the same ol same ol and I'm definitely the same way. I love all types of books, I'm definitely not that picky and I love trying out new genres.
My one friend really loves that book little woman. I havent personally read but its one her favorites
Love bookstores although they don't normally get visited by me much anymore. It's because I have to stay on track/on a budget. I am low income but eat books alive it seems. They are my best friends. Thank You for this, I subscribed and loved it. Needed this. Hugs and happy readings.
Tender is the flesh was a very interesting read. Kinda like the jungle but with a gross twist. I think you can power through and finish it!
The vibes and book choices in this vlog are awesome!
p.s. I love your hair sm!
OH- I probably haven't said this yet but your hair is special!! It makes you look more mischievous and active
I most definitely agree that when I read "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder", I felt like the book wrapped up fine so I didn't see a point in reading the second two, but I already had them so I was like might as well and I don't regret it. The other two books are also very good. And I feel like we have simialr taste in books so hopefully you like the other two as well.🥰
if you’re gonna read holly, read the outsider by stephen king first & then if it bleeds! it’s part of that series & holly is the 3rd one
the outsider is my all time favorite stephen kind book
We have the same taste for books!! Most of the books you bought are what I want to read in the future and what I’ve read already! Especially, I’m excited that you picked up Sayaka Murata’s “Convenience Store Woman”, which I read in Japanese, as I’m Japanese and I’m sure it’s going to be an interesting read for you! I don’t know how the book is translated in English, but I hope it is translated well. It is quintessentially Japanese!
The Joy Luck Club is sooo good! It’s one of my favorite books of all time and I read it way back in high school. I plan on reading again soon!
and I just saw that you bought a Paulo Coelho’s book! and you should definitely read more brazilian books, you won’t be disappointed ❤
Haha that wallet slap was funny. I DNFED Earthlings. I couldn't handle the child assault in the book :/
Kite Runner is on my tbr. I'm currently reading The Silent Patient. So excited!!!
This was too cute! The pumpkins came out nicely 😍
You could probably find those blankets at a dollar store or Walmart 🤎
I start off every year by reading the alchemist 10/10 recommend!
I like Killers of a Certain Age. I loved The Kite Runner. I think you will love it!
I just found your channel and i'm obsessed, your videos are so good! and I love your personality as well! wish all the good things for you❤
omg the pride and prejudice edition 😩🫶🏽
Lol that's how I feel every time I leave the bookstore...I've never gotten that many though...and you do look great in green! One of my favorite colors. :)
I'm reading Convenience Store Woman, I might to pick up by Norweigian Wood and Earthlings! Also love Jack Edwards! I can't till he makes a video on The Booker Price books! So I know which ones to get 😊
khali, you should also pick the house across the lake too! it’s very spooky season ngl
Great books! I loved the kite runner but it was incredibly heartbreaking :C.
I love watching your book hauls and especially when you decorated pumpkins, baked cookies, and read. Good way to get into the fall season. It was also nice you got to hang out with your niece (Sorry If I'm wrong)
youre seriously so pretty
love that i’m like reviewing this live 😭 EARTHLINGS!! oh i’m so excited to read that but i’ve heard it’s incredibly disturbing and intense at points so i would definitely check for trigger warnings!
You needed to get midnight sun which is Twilight based on Edwards past and his version, I think you would love it as it gives more from his past
Your sister is so cute! That's your twin fr fr!
I’m glad that you chose some books written by Japanese authors:)
Sayaka Murata is one of my favorite authors! The story of her books are kinda crazy but so obsessive!!!
I’m waiting for a video talking about them;)
I actually read King’s first novel Carrie first and then Salem’s Lot. Salem’s Lot was terrifying for me due to certain elements in the book. Misery was scary also. I read the book once and never picked it up again. The Stand is my favorite of all by him. I have read it over a dozen times.
i love your videos! i just finished reading eleanor oliphant and totally understand why you loved it so much.
Yay!! I’m so happy you enjoyed it as much as I did 🥹🩷🩷
That GIF of me and wallet took me TF out 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
😭😭
Misery was my first Stephen king book! I also recently finished salems lot
Robert McCammon is also a good, kind of niche, horror writer. Boy's Life is one of my favorites!
This was so cute! “Subscribe before I get you” 😂 got me lol I like how creative and different you are honestly :) salems lot is one of my favorite Stephan king books to this day, for sure one of the spookiest !! Have fun :)
OMG you should've grabbed Jane Eyre and Wurthering Heights!!! Such good books. I read Pride and Prejudice and enjoyed it but the other two are on a completely different level!
Also I think the Poe story you are mentioning is 'Fall of the House of Usher'. It's a short story and super interesting I highly recommend reading that in itself as-well.
Khalilah you look awesome in green! 😍 and girl that shopping trip was one of the best ones I’ve seen!! No need for a book buying ban - Pbj sandwiches go a long way!! 🎉😂❤❤❤
I get som excited when you go to the bookstore! Love your vlogs!
Yay! Thank you! Happy you’re here 🩷
You should DEFINITELY watch Misery after you read the book! It’s so good, and it’s Kathy Bates first big role if I’m not mistaken. I unfortunately don’t own misery even though I have like 35 Stephen King books, but I absolutely love the movie!
Bluest Eye (Morrison) and The Color Purple (Walker) are both fiction, but pretty “dense” and challenging!
