beautiful job, mama! hahaha its always like trying to fit pieces of a puzzle together getting them all in the jar! hahahaha i loved canning asparagus! and they just look so pretty in their jars!
+The Kneady Homesteader puzzle with no picture lol yes.
Thank you very helpful video.. I have never canned Asparagus before got 4 bunches gifted to me and want to can them of course I have the Ball canning book for guidance but it's so helpful to see it actually being done. Anna In Ohio.
I LOVE Asparagus. Stick to what you know is always the best..sometimes apps let you down. your cuppa friend.
+Christine Brush the app would be good for someone who is new to canning. But it just frustrated me.
Nope...I'm new to pressure canning and that app made me say the Most High Holy Mother Cussword. :) And then I deleted it.
I think they turned out pretty well. I haven't tried to can asparagus yet but looks like I will have to, lol, looking good.
+Katie Grazier I think so too. This is my first year canning it.
Hope you have good luck with it.
When I get to do it I will let you know.
Thy look lovely in the pint and a half jars :)
+All Sorts they good in any jar lol 😂
Half up and half on their head might fit more in the jar I would think. Making some this weekend. $2.48/lb here. :(
+LyLy MoWa yeah that's about the normal price here too. That's why we are stocking up on 1.99 per lb now. I have 6? More in the fridge waiting to be canned. So far have done 10lb plus. Not going to complain about that!
Off-season here it is usually 4.99 but in-season and not on sale 2.99. Isn't it crazy how prices differ?
yum the stems would make great cream o' soup
Beautiful job, Christine. You know this is weird but I do not even know if I like asparagus. I just never bought any from the store but I think I will try some now. Hope you are doing well. I am loving all the videos lately. I know you have been working hard on them. Thank you so much!!----Tressa Daigle
+Tressa's Stay at Home Life oh it's so good!!!! Cooked in the BBQ or roasted in butter with garlic or just plain with some salt. 😋
Thank you. I have a longer one coming up and it's just because I don't have the time to sit down and edit it.
These turned out beautiful!!!! I have been canning asparagus for the last three days! I got it for 68 cents a lb!!! On sale in the city 75 miles from where I live on the edge of a desert in very southern lower 48. So I brought home 40 lbs!! I came out with 12 pint and a half jars of cut asparagus and 28 pint and a half jars of spears! I did raw pack as well so they would not go to mush. They all sealed and are beautiful!! I even dehydrated the woody ends to grind into asparagus powder for soups!! Wish I could share the pics!
Okay, I was thinking of doing that, but in the back of my mind I thought no, might not taste good. Next time. That's a great price! I never see sales like that here
Wilhelms Kitchen I have not tasted the dehydrated end pieces yet.... I'll let you know how they taste and rehydrate once ground. 😊
Howdy!! I dehydrated the asparagus wood ends and ground them up into powder/flour! It made a fine nice flour! And it smells and taste like asparagus!! Will be great for asparagus soup or in stews etc!! I wasted nothing!
great to know thank you!
Asparagus is my favorite. Haha! Nothing quick about it. Easiest to raw pack it though. I hot packed mine the year before last and it takes on a life of it's own. Like trying to get cooked spaghetti to stand up in the jars. I probably had to put $10 in my swear jar by the time I finished that batch. : )
They will still be soft when you eat them, but much better flavor than store bought cans. No way to keep them crisp when pressure canning. If you want crisper, firmer asparagus then need to pickle and process in water bath canner for shorter time.
+DaelithTN I normally freeze them but when I cook then I roast them in the oven to cook off the extra Moisture. I would never water bath a veggie no way no how. Tomato I water bath but that's all. Unless pickled
Ooo, I didn't mean to imply water bath canning veggies. No, no, no...never. I meant pickle them.
oh i miss read. Sorry yesterday was a bad day.
Did you water bath can or pressure can?
Pressure canned
Love asparagus,, planning on cannng it when it drops in price
Your jars is asparagus inspired me. On sale here for $1.99. How many lbs did you start with to yield your 8 jars?
+wolchfam that was 5 lbs? I think.
Thanks 😀
I PICKLE THE HECK OUT OF SOME ASPARAGUS BECAUSE IT REALLY DOESN'T TASTE GOOD PLAINLY CANNED. YOU HAVE TO SOLIDLY PACK THEM, YOUR DOING IT CORRECTLY, THANK YOU FOR SHARING, MANY PRAYERS!
i love asparagus. i loved jarred as a child but always eat fresh now. I tried canning some a couple of weeks ago. they tasted like nothing. I added salt. i ended up throwing the jars away.. Why didnt they at lest taste like when I was a child. The commercial canned asparagus was so much better in flavor. What did I do wrong?
By getting a pressure canner this year I'm hoping to eliminate one of our chest freezers and save on our electric bill as well as have food on the shelf in case of power outages (and have no loss unlike when we had a huge windstorm with no power for 6 days and lost $$ on frozen food). I've always blanched and frozen asparagus too and even that way, you still get a softer bite to it so why not can it and save the electricity? I'm curious about raw-packing the asparagus...it takes awhile to get it all in jars, is it a problem that the jars are going to cool down during this time? PS--that canning app failed me on doing a canner load of beans. Huge sadness and of course I deleted it right away. Probably not the app's fault but my phone.
I'm new around here. Been bindge watching a few videos. I hate canned asparagus but love it fresh. So its been almost a yr since this video went up. Did they mush or stay crisp for you?
I love asparagus but my mom used to by it canned and it was a mushy nasty mess hows the texture of the home canned stuff?
+Marjorie Eades this is my first year canning it.
You don't seem to be too concerned about keeping things sterile. You touch the rims & lids with your bare hands! Will use another video instead.
+Jan Holman only if you knew the amount of time I wash my hands when doing something.
You are smart to can all you can! A power outage can wipe out an entire seasons worth of food!
YAY...We love as Kenny says it...( Ass-per-grass )...LOL
I want to do some Pickled Asparagus...Yummo!
Blessed Be and Smooches...
+The Grey March Hair 😂 my husband calls it that.
Are these Pressure canned?
yes they are
I love asparagus. but never tried canning it what is the texture?
+Chris OBrien this was my first time. So I have no idea yet.
Did you water or pressure can these please.
Pressure can
