      +Christine Brush the app would be good for someone who is new to canning. But it just frustrated me.

      Nope...I'm new to pressure canning and that app made me say the Most High Holy Mother Cussword. :) And then I deleted it.

    Half up and half on their head might fit more in the jar I would think. Making some this weekend. $2.48/lb here. :(

      +LyLy MoWa yeah that's about the normal price here too. That's why we are stocking up on 1.99 per lb now. I have 6? More in the fridge waiting to be canned. So far have done 10lb plus. Not going to complain about that!

      Off-season here it is usually 4.99 but in-season and not on sale 2.99. Isn't it crazy how prices differ?

    Beautiful job, Christine. You know this is weird but I do not even know if I like asparagus. I just never bought any from the store but I think I will try some now. Hope you are doing well. I am loving all the videos lately. I know you have been working hard on them. Thank you so much!!----Tressa Daigle

      +Tressa's Stay at Home Life oh it's so good!!!! Cooked in the BBQ or roasted in butter with garlic or just plain with some salt. 😋
      Thank you. I have a longer one coming up and it's just because I don't have the time to sit down and edit it.

    These turned out beautiful!!!! I have been canning asparagus for the last three days! I got it for 68 cents a lb!!! On sale in the city 75 miles from where I live on the edge of a desert in very southern lower 48. So I brought home 40 lbs!! I came out with 12 pint and a half jars of cut asparagus and 28 pint and a half jars of spears! I did raw pack as well so they would not go to mush. They all sealed and are beautiful!! I even dehydrated the woody ends to grind into asparagus powder for soups!! Wish I could share the pics!

      @wholesome.heartfelt  7 лет назад

      Okay, I was thinking of doing that, but in the back of my mind I thought no, might not taste good. Next time. That's a great price! I never see sales like that here

      Wilhelms Kitchen I have not tasted the dehydrated end pieces yet.... I'll let you know how they taste and rehydrate once ground. 😊

      Howdy!! I dehydrated the asparagus wood ends and ground them up into powder/flour! It made a fine nice flour! And it smells and taste like asparagus!! Will be great for asparagus soup or in stews etc!! I wasted nothing!

    Asparagus is my favorite. Haha! Nothing quick about it. Easiest to raw pack it though. I hot packed mine the year before last and it takes on a life of it's own. Like trying to get cooked spaghetti to stand up in the jars. I probably had to put $10 in my swear jar by the time I finished that batch. : )
    They will still be soft when you eat them, but much better flavor than store bought cans. No way to keep them crisp when pressure canning. If you want crisper, firmer asparagus then need to pickle and process in water bath canner for shorter time.

    • @wholesome.heartfelt
      @wholesome.heartfelt  7 лет назад +1

      +DaelithTN I normally freeze them but when I cook then I roast them in the oven to cook off the extra Moisture. I would never water bath a veggie no way no how. Tomato I water bath but that's all. Unless pickled

    • @DaelithTN
      @DaelithTN 7 лет назад +1

      Ooo, I didn't mean to imply water bath canning veggies. No, no, no...never. I meant pickle them.

    i love asparagus. i loved jarred as a child but always eat fresh now. I tried canning some a couple of weeks ago. they tasted like nothing. I added salt. i ended up throwing the jars away.. Why didnt they at lest taste like when I was a child. The commercial canned asparagus was so much better in flavor. What did I do wrong?

  • @mollysmith6055

    By getting a pressure canner this year I'm hoping to eliminate one of our chest freezers and save on our electric bill as well as have food on the shelf in case of power outages (and have no loss unlike when we had a huge windstorm with no power for 6 days and lost $$ on frozen food). I've always blanched and frozen asparagus too and even that way, you still get a softer bite to it so why not can it and save the electricity? I'm curious about raw-packing the asparagus...it takes awhile to get it all in jars, is it a problem that the jars are going to cool down during this time? PS--that canning app failed me on doing a canner load of beans. Huge sadness and of course I deleted it right away. Probably not the app's fault but my phone.

    You don't seem to be too concerned about keeping things sterile. You touch the rims & lids with your bare hands! Will use another video instead.
