- I constructed an easy DIY control board for my lagoon nano tank! Cable management is key.
Ok, ok, ok, I hear youuuuuuuu!! I'll clean up the rats nest of cords on the floor! lol. I was actually pretty surprised at how easy this build was. If you've got some plywood and scrap wood hanging around, you should be good to go! Your coral will thank you. After cleaning up the mess, your corals will be the star of the show!

Velcro! loops for making wire bundles, and double-sided with adhesive to mount your power bricks up high in the stand. Easiest and cheapest cleanup :-)
Yeah I definitely need something better for the power brick. Thanks!!
Double sided velcro is the one thing. In addition to bricks, wrap cords instead of zip. Then when new stuff or need to remove something for maintenance just undo the velcro and re fasten it on the go
Velcro is a must!!
YESSSSSSSSS.
That's a great idea..my cords are a mess..I guess I have a project to do on Sunday..thanks Remey
Sorry for the extra work! You'll feel good about it when you're done though.
Remy, it was a pleasure meeting you! Glad you like the toadstool you got from me! Fins up!
Thanks again!! Can't wait to put this toad front and center.
Great job Remy looks a million times better
Thank you!! Feels better too.
Velcro is a must for me! 🦉🍻
YES!!! I need to grab some straps.
It looks great Remy. I’ve made two controller boards diy in the past and there is just something satisfying about doing it all from scratch! Well done!
I don't know...there were many times I wish I woulda just purchased a board, lol! Thanks for the inspo!
Love it. As an extremely OCD person when it come to cable managment I love these type of vids
Happy it passed the test! Still gotta tidy up a bit more but it's a good start!
@@BahamaLlamaCoral Cable managment is a never ending goal hahaha. I have all mine set up on piano hinges. If you need to remove something, just pop it open. Awsome build cant wait to see the next vid
The ADJ power strip on amazon has individual, lighted switches for each plug, and the wires all plug in to the back for a nice, clean look. Well worth the $37
I am very familiar with this strip! Many, many weddings I've DJ'ed and radio studios that have run this strip.
Nice you made a French Cleat out of wood for hanging. You can pick up metal ones at most framing and craft stores. 👍🏾
That's a good idea! I wanted to cut the wood at an angle but unfortunately don't have the proper tools.
Great Video !!!!! Only if you knew an electrician ...... I have ideas for the frag tank !!!!
Lets goooooo!! I never ask because I'm sure electricians and plumbers get bugged enough about this kinda stuff..
Oooo I definitely do and it definitely gets old quick. With that said its different when u combine two things you love.
Bravo! Inspiring!
Awesome nice job, thanks for the idea.
good video
Hey Remy,
cool controller board! I built my controller board at the wall side of my room divider. Now there is one cable entering the room divider. Therefore two things are indespencable (for me): drawer pull-out to slide the whole compartment beside the aquarium and velcro fastener for simple release of each controller, power adapter etc.
Love it!! I'd love to see this!
I would be delighted to send you some Pics. Is that possible?
@@germanytraveller2419 If you're on IG send to BahamaLlamaCoral :)
That's a pretty cool setup. My cords are not a mess, but the definitely don't look that nice either. I might just have to build something like that when i upgrade my tank.
It looks like the tank is ready for takeoff! I kinda love it!
@@BahamaLlamaCoral hell yeah! Are you going to do a video for the other one too?
Inspired me to sort my messy cables and controllers everywhere, gonna use florescent spray paints flicked over a black background I think that will look insane when I've got my blues on ,, cheers remi mate
Nice job Remy. It looks clean and tidy & I’m sure you feel better now that you got that pile of wires off of the floor. 😁 it turned out well..
Thanks! And 1000x yes. Now I just gotta do the frag tank.
Nice job! Thanks for another awesome video.
Thanks again!
VELCRO!! use velcro on your cables to bundle them up. dont use zipties, when you have to add something you need to cut all the zipties
Learned this the hard way! Velcro for life now! That board was made a long time ago.
I used a label maker, I got it on amazon. The best $30 that I have spend !! 🤘🏻
Great idea! That will be the next purchase for sure.
Amen, I think I have used my label maker more on my reef equipment than what I originally purchased it for.
I also got one as well after I was yelled at for not labeling my wires. 😁
@@elslick 🤣 me too! I labeled like everything on my tank man
I've had one since like...2008😂😂 so useful, I use it for everything hahhaa
Awesome video! So true... tend to let things slip to the way side with these crazy cord areas! LOOKS AWESOME!
Thanks man!! Your channel is coming along. The first 1k are the hardest but stay consistent!
New subscriber great video we can all learn something
Great video man! Was so happy when I finally made a controller board! Makes life so much easier
I'm just now enjoying that controller board lifestyle!! It's great so far!
Well I know what I'm doing this weekend!
Looks way mo better! Super easy and glad you didn’t do what I did with the hole saw 😬
LOL!!!
I use zip ties and a staple gun. I staple the excess piece to the beams i run them on. I think carpentry is one of the things that comes with the hobby that is a more difficult for me than plumbing or electric/tech stuff. Looks great! Good job!
Thank you! Yeah, wish I had more trade experience but I get by. If I can't do it we've got a great community in STL that can help!
I agree that you can use carpentry a lot, heck I built everything except the tank haha, but electricity is WAAAYYY harder. I know some but man it gets complicated😅
Awesome idea and looking good. I keep thinking I need to get a fire extinguisher but many options and with electric and water it gets muddy on what to have on hand.
Yeah, that's a good question! Now you're making me think...
I have a major rats nets by my reef tank 😑😑
Definitely need to figure something out soon!!
Good video thanks buddy!!!!
You got it! See, I feel like I can't get away with it as easy because my tanks are on RUclips all the time...lol
I have 2 power stips with outlets that rotate and can't do it without green plastic plant tie tape works great to tie chords
Nice Video, I need to work on this also.. Mines currently a rats nest but on a shelf above the tank so i'm not worried when I flood the floor...
My favorite go to for cable management is the Velcro cable tie. I use these instead of zip ties cause i always make mistakes and its easy to pull something out if you need to :)
I agree on the zipties. Plus, when you cut the excess it always leaves a sharp edge.
DO A BAHAMA BUDGET FARM BUILD! DO IT!
Looks great! I’m still in the process of running/organizing all my cords to the apex control box... (I have to get some extensions for my MP40s to reach up where I have everything mounted... shoot me now.)
My only tip is to plan where you want to store all your powerbricks for your equipment (especially if you have a bunch!) only saying this because they can generate some heat fast. I don’t have enough room inside my build, so I will most likely mount them next to the board on the wall. (I’m also not spending an arm to get the ecotech mounting brackets, so a DIY idea I must come up with...)
Cheers again though, looks a Thousand times better!
Thank you! I know guys like @fishofhex make 3d printed power bring brackets so that could be an option in the future too. Maybe for the frag. There's 4-6 power bricks on that tank.
Bahama Llama Coral yeah I was thinking about fishofhex’ model. They were like half the price, But I would still need like 10 of them. Rip.😑
@@MoreTankMoreProblems And the cost of this hobby strikes AGAIN. 😂
Imagine sorting cables
Oh wait I have to do that too
@@zafishguy5166 😝
Remy - Just an FYI, I have the same tank and use the Aqua Shield as well. Recently I had some acros die off and couldn’t for the life of my figure out why. Tried everything.
Today, I took out the Aqua Shield and found a burnt to crisp bulb and when I washed out the inside, there was black soot on the paper towel when drying it off. I guess the plastic degraded over the 8 months I’ve had it. Similar to the Jebao that FishofHex made a video on.
Unfortunately I would turn my return off for feeding, but keep the UV running. I believe this cooked the bulb and led to the plastic issues. I think it’s a solid lesson in 1.) Checking your equip regularly and 2,) Never having a UV on without running water through it. Even if it’s a couple minutes. Tbh when corals were RTNing this was the last thing I would have suspected.
Thank you for this. It's my first UV Sterilizer. I know that these bulbs need to be replaced every so often but this gives me a little extra incentive to inspect every water change. Thanks!!
Bahama Llama Coral It was/is my first UV as well.
Good news is today all my corals are starting to open back up and look a lot more healthy. Hopefully It’s the end of the losses. Thankfully didn’t lose my Purple Monster or Pink Panther Acros.
@@JMehalick 🙏sorry to hear man, good luck glad stuff is getting better.
Cords are superrrr hard to manage tbh. It’s hard to keep them in order. I try to maintain organized cords but that difficult
You got this. If I can do it...anyone can, lol!
LOL one problem cleaned up... now time to address the windows... :)
The cardboard is growing on me.
@@BahamaLlamaCoral You should at least paint some fish on it.
Sounds like a project for the kiddos.
Yay another great video, I need to make one of these My wires are a mess
Do it!! It kinda looks cool too!
Did you end up doing the frag tank cable management?
Didn't get to it before I took it down. Head over to the Reef Builders channel to see what's in its place!
Are we going to Tuesdays from now on?
Maybe Tuesday and Sunday?
@@BahamaLlamaCoral yay.
@@BahamaLlamaCoral also I love the idea of using paper templates
Hi gabe 🦉🍻
@@angryowlaquariums40 hey birdie
Just curious but what are the dimensions of you 45gallon frag tank?
48x18x12 😊
ZIPTIES !!!!
You can never have too many of these!
Does that temp controller really say 80°f ???
Sure does! 82 is what it's set at. I tried an experiment months ago while battling dinos and I just left it. No adverse affects.
What everybody dreads, the cables from hell
You'd think with all the tech we have nowadays, cables woulda been a thing of the past.
Just thought I'd let you know I pulled the trigger and got a lps frag pack from wwc I ordered it Monday was supposed to be here today but a delay occurred fedex said that it will be delivered tomorrow do you think the coral will be ok? Should right?
Should be ok...but you might have to baby it for awhile. If it's LPS it's probably gonna be pretty pulled in. They do a great job packing though. Good luck! Keep me posted.
@@BahamaLlamaCoral yeah it's all lps thanks man will do for sure! Think putting them on the sandbed is a good idea?
@@willrobertson9481 For sure. Try not to stress too much.
@@BahamaLlamaCoral ok thanks dude it's my first time ordering anything live I think I watched just about every single unboxing video and shipping video wwc has lol but anywho I'll let you know what came and also how there doing! Thanks for the advice man appreciate it!
It came corals are fine! Very nice pack it came with purple stuff echinata ,key lime gonistrea, cotton candy chalice, forest king Aussie lord and a midnightmoon favia. Seem to be adjusting well to.
dang now i gotta fix my cord problem :(
Sorrry....lol!
why dont any one mahe a vid about tanks pricing
I will make one in a couple weeks on my channel.
Love the content and I have send you a DM on IG. Hope I can help you with the frag tank when you do that one and maybe for this one as well..
I replied! Those mounts are awesome!
Zip ties. Lots of zip ties. About to move and want to do a cleaner setup though, so i might make something like this.
It was relatively easy to do. The construction paper cutouts were key.
I just use zip ties and connect my wires around a piece of drilled plywood attached to the back of my cabnet
Yeah, I think I'm going to use some zip ties to tidy up just a bit more. Thanks for the watch!
@@BahamaLlamaCoral I used a similar design to you building it out and then drilling holes and having the cable storage area in the back. I just zip-tied them and on and used the occasional velcro style zip ties to attach the wires and they run through the wires. Note this is for my freshwater tank been wanting to go and get my first marine tank for a while but since COVID my mum won't let me go out to get it. Point is not sure if the style I used would come with extra complications
😂 if you’re want another board give me a holler I’ll CNC one out of PVC
Might hit you up for the frag tank. That thing is gonna need a lot more spots.
First!
2nd first! Good work!
