I don't even know what attracts me the most here: the acting, the ability to empathize with a conductor's work, or simply the passion.... Simply great!
I personally didn't like Tár but it losing to Everything Everywhere All at Once is the Oscar's version of a 'bad beat' from Poker. Just couldn't predict that.
One of those times that - yes Yoew is a decent actress but she’s not a brilliant Blanchett level actress. So weird. Makes me think of political reasoning and Oscars aren’t above it
Tar is a movie nobody saw or even heard about, and it had a loathsome character as its base. The Oscar panel probably stopped watching the movie out of tedium.
Cate Blanchett turned in possibly the best performance of the 2010s in Blue Jasmine, and turned in EASILY the best performance of the 2020s so far in this film. She is easily one of the greatest living actors
@@romilrh For me I think she definitely is. Her range and ability to inhabit the character pitch perfectly sets her apart. Daniel Day Lewis's female counterpart haha
True oscar winner for 2022! If this was overlooked easily i don't understand what the academy defines as acting! Not against Michelle yeoh, EEAAO was my favorite movie of the year, but i think Cate gave the career best performance that's just PERFECT!
The layers and nuances Blanchett brought to her character Lydia was nothing but astounding to watch. Total embodiment of character, there was no acting. Simply masterclass performance
I thought Cate Blanchett was so much more believable as a musical genius and conductor than Bradley cooper did. Tar is a much better made movie too and it really shows her character’s musical genius so much better than Maestro did
Her best performance today by a country mile. She was clearly robbed at the Oscars but they couldn’t give it to her for the third time I guess, plus they had to appeal to multiculturalism, as usual. I love Michelle Yeoh but she wasn’t even in the same stratosphere.
Totally man. One of the greatest performances ever in cinema history. It’s that good. My theatre actors were astounded by this performance. They told me this is harder than it looks
@@rics1883 to the people who KNOW, Oscars mean nothing. Is just a red carpet extravaganza combined by Hollywood gossip and stand up comedy…oh and they happen to give some awards at the end.
Cate didn’t even care and was actively rooting for Michelle Yeoh. The Oscar’s are a way to acknowledge someone’s talent in their field by their peers. Cate Blanchett had already been acknowledged twice before, so what would really be the point in awarding her again? Plus, she has no trouble finding work. Meanwhile Yeoh was being pressured to retire/was being offered less and less roles and was not taken seriously. The award is wholly symbolic and meant more going to Yeoh. If you want what was actually the best of the year, watch Critic’s Choice.
The acted scenes here are great obviously, but its quite off-putting how often she uses her baton hand (i.e. timekeeping hand) for big expressive gestures that confuse where the beat lies.. its such a basic error and takes me right out of the immersion. I wonder why nobody caught it, even with all those musicians there? Supposedly Bradley Cooper has been learning to conduct for six years to star in the new Bernstein biopic.. we shall see what that produces!
I felt Bradley’s performance especially conducting too on the nose tbh. You could totally he was acting, there was little inhabiting the Leonard Bernstein. Although Carey Mulligan was incredible. She outshone Bradley.
Totally agree on this. FWIW I thought Bradley did an incredible job as Bernstein, especially after watching some old Bernstein footage both in interview and as a conductor. He captured Bernstein the person - but also the act of conducting more realistically than seen in this clip.
I actually thought this scene was better. While her use of the conducting hand isn’t great, she is clearly directing the music. Cooper captured the raw energy of Bernstein but not much else imo. It would’ve been difficult to follow as a musician, was largely reacting to the music vs leading it, and it was unclear what he was going for.
Oscars aren't won they're campaigned and pandered for. Hollywood SAG and Oscars stroked all four A24 actors because of irrelevant narrative over ages of 50s and 60s, comebacks or lifetime achievement. Blanchett won 10 more awards than Michelle Yeoh all season, including Critics Choice and the UK Oscar equivalent British Academy BAFTA
Blanchett’s performance is for the books. It goes beyond whether or not she won an Oscar for. Which she should have
I swear to god, I can watch hours of Cate Blanchett just speaking German, its just so gut!
I don't even know what attracts me the most here: the acting, the ability to empathize with a conductor's work, or simply the passion.... Simply great!
2:56 One of the subtle features in their marriage can be seen here. Nobody got what Lydia was looking for except her wife.
i love michelle yeoh but cate really did a phenomenal job portraying lydia tár
Comeback narrative topple artistic merit, not saying Yeoh’s performance wasn’t good but what Blanchett has done in TAR is masterclass in acting
Ikr, I thought she was real character and Cate Blanchett played her as biography

I’m convinced there isn’t any part Cate Blanchette couldn’t master.
Brilliant conducting and acting as Tar! 😍😍
She is Lydia Tar. She is not Cate here. Brilliant acting!
Instant all-time great performance by Cate... will be talked about in many years to come.
Really did deserved that Oscar, Blanchett is an incredible artist. Please continue with your greatness!
Almost forgot to watch this today

I’d go as far as she’s one of greatest of all times. Top 3 easily, male or female
@@rics1883 Top 3 of all time? I don't know, there's so many legends out there. Top 10 though? I could see it.

Julianne Moore in "Still Alice".
If you’re into over acting, sure.
Yesterday I listened to Mahler's Fifth Symphony at the Wrocław Philharmonic. I've gained an appetite for the movie.
Wow this really feels like a real rehearsal!
Catherine Blanchett 🇦🇺
You'd be forgiven for momentarily forgetting that you're watching an actor and not a world-class conductor.

I agree with you. Sadly, Politics is more important than Achievement. I got angry when they didn't give her the Oscar.
