    Thanks for a nice video, Sachs was a very common engine on mopeds here in Sweden, even some light motorcycles in the 50-60's

    Glad you chose to work on the BSA. I live in the States and have heard of Sachs, but wasn't aware that BSA made small engines. Very facinating!!

    Was that a woodruff type key lying on the worktop wwhen you first put the flywheel back on ?. Seemed to be there all the time you was looking for a spark but had gone when the second rebuild found the spark . Was it not timed correctly initially ?. F and S very well know engineers, even up to aircraft engines.

    The plate on the Sachs looks like Baujahr 72. The build year.

    Now then, when I was working at Askham Bryan College, we had that exact same engine on a commercial lawnmower. Unfortunately I can't remember exactly what make, but I have 'Greens' and 'Webb' buzzing about in my mind. That big flywheel serves two purposes; one, being to maintain momentum when the mower gets into some heavy cutting, and two, because of its mass, and therefore the inertia, it helps to prevent the crankshaft from twisting or snapping in two if the mower cylinder is stalled. It's a good quality engine, used on good quality lawnmowers. I guess it would have other applications too, I only ever saw them on lawnmowers.

      Yeah I think it was off a mower. Aw be it a small one. That flywheels really do help smooth out the running. She's a lovely runner.

    Buy yourself some Deoxit D5 in a spray can. It's not cheap but it helps clean and prevent corrosion reforming it'll save you having to pull flywheels in future after cleaning them the first time. And you only need the tiniest amount. I use it for electronic repairs all the time. It's incredible stuff. Greetings from NZ

    • @NorfolkMancave
      @NorfolkMancave  Год назад +1

      I hear My mate Vince talk about Deoxit. But unsure what it is. Will have to look it up. Its a contact cleaner I guess??

    • @garethmilne6887
      @garethmilne6887 Год назад

      @@NorfolkMancave yeah it's a contact cleaner. You still need to initially clean things up for best results but it's t also a protectant and has slight lubrication properties for electrical contacts also. You can order it pretty easily online from places like element14, Amazon, RS components or other electronic retailers. Should help you out and I'd think keep points in good shape for years

    The Adamski never even checked the other head bolts and she ran well. Good job Adam. I was going to comment on the Douglas that ya'll filed the points twice too much, but hey, here you had to go back again. By a stroke of luck the flywheel wasn't one of those recalcitrant ones you had to break a half inch puller on.

    Sachs is a famous German make. They made or make a lot of stuff for the German military. ZF Sachs AG, also known as Fichtel & Sachs, was founded in Schweinfurt in 1895 and was a well-known German family business. At its last point as an independent company, the company name was Fichtel & Sachs AG. In 1997, the automotive supplier was taken over by Mannesmann and renamed Mannesmann Sachs AG.
