Red is always been a color that indicated danger, and Red is the color with the longest wavelength, so it can be seen from a greater distance than other colors.
That's why Stop Signs, Flags, Alert Lights, etc. are colored red.
And red is way harder to see at night hence the reason why stop signs and all used to be yellow before
