    thats a heck of a nice job Kris that should outlast similar sheds built in the modern way

    • @KrisHarbour
      @KrisHarbour  7 лет назад +1

      i hope so, and it has cost me about £40 so far. it will be under £200 when its done. so far cheaper than anything i could buy as well.

    • @thegit8698
      @thegit8698 7 лет назад

      You can't complain about that, if you was to buy a flat pack shed it would cost a bomb and you would get maybe fifteen years out of it if you maintained it and to buy the timber from a mill would be very expensive, you have got some dedication Kris fair do's to you, you have got a solid frame which I think is the backbone of a good build and I think that would probably make it easier to repair any part of the shed in the future, lashing of creosote or similar on the frame now especially on the bottom where its on the stone, that usually one of the most vulnerable places for rot and infestation and it does rain a heck of a lot down hear doesn't it

I am continuing to follow your progress. Might come to meet you before starting a similar project in Portugal ! Thank you for the positivity.

      yeah i was feeling ill super hot and just wanted to get it done. i just didnt think about it at all. of course i could have just edited it out but i like to show and honest look at what i have to do to build lie this. it wasn't to much of a big deal it didn't damage anything and i just tapped it back with a sledge hammer.

    nothing fancy but very practical. Its nice to see your not stuck to a mindset like people have when they wont want to try other ways or use less perfection. hell you can build a mansion like this and it will look and be amazing

      i dont like to do the same thing over and over, i wanted to work on my mortise and tenon joints this building design was practical for a workspace and a good chance for me to practice.

    I've loved watching your videos. The main house and this shed are two completely different types of (i'll say) ancient building techniques. Are you an architect? How did you get interested in actually building these yourself? Very interesting? Hell of a weight loss program :)

    • @KrisHarbour
      @KrisHarbour  7 лет назад +3

      Hi, yes i like to experiment with different building methods before i start a really elaborate project building an amazing house, all these buildings before hand are me working on my skills. im not an architect im just a guy that likes to make things.
      glad you are enjoying the videos. kris

    I would have used tie-beams over the top of your top beams, half-lapped and pegged through; then girts notched into the posts lower down. But each to their own, and it's looking good!

      its not easy buddy, i dont wake up every morning feeling like i just can't wait to get out there and work. most days i have to push myself. i just keep telling myself to take one little steps at a time and dont think to much about the mass of work ahead. just thousands of little jobs, each job is quite easy. just focus on that one chisel stroke, or that one saw cut. if you think to hard about the big picture you get disheartened. slow and steady one step at a time.

    Do you have to secure the frame to the foundation?

    • @KrisHarbour
      @KrisHarbour  7 лет назад +6

      No i dont think i need to. it is going to have a turf roof so it will be very heavy, and it is in a very sheltered spot. if it was in a place that could have strong winds i would secure it.

    • @opiwaran354
      @opiwaran354 7 лет назад +4

      Will you put turf on all your buildings that are planned?

    • @KrisHarbour
      @KrisHarbour  7 лет назад +3

      i think so, i like the fact that it makes them blend in from above and dont scare the land. they are also really cheap. just some pond liner is about the only expense.

    • @opiwaran354
      @opiwaran354 7 лет назад +2

      And they also look better than tiles I think

    • @wendyweaver8749
      @wendyweaver8749 4 года назад

      Salius Opirar - There is a reply from Kris that was posted about two years ago in which he wrote that yes, a two-story house can easily be built by two people using the same method as for his shed.

    I'm thinking that you guys didn't need to use the car to lift that wall frame. That wood is not so heavy that two men could not lift it. Or am I wrong?

    • @KrisHarbour
      @KrisHarbour  6 лет назад +2

      i did it on my own, my friend adam had gone by then, and there was no way i could do it alone, that was about 150kg of wood.
