Jesus, that story is just infuriating. The OP is pretty much a complete doormat that's unable to defend himself, just staying silent for the whole time. Thank god it's just an AI story.
Possibly but also its possible that the kid never really respected him as a Step Father either way their is hardly one Victim nor Malicious individual in this story just all around miserable people, The Step Dad should have left the Child and Mom or had a sit down with them, The Kid probably has Major Depressive Disorder, likely thanks to the Divorce of his Biological Father and Mother and it remained untreated likely thanks to Neglect, The Mom likely Neglected the Kid thinking it was "just a Phase" until it was too late, The Dad is also a Neglectful man only there to give some food to the kid.
@@raymondsolomon8935 anything with a parental conitation is still weird when you don't feel that kind of relationship. Step-dad indicates an at least second dad which the stepson may have felt the op was pushing that relationship a bit too soon.
@@Chaoshadow-SA2 TBF the Step Dad needed to take an Active stance in the situation than just react or try to just keep talking to the kid who clearly at that point has no respect for him thanks to Depression, Talking to his Wife about it in a deeper capacity would have helped the situation greatly but it seems both OP and his Ex now thought that they can fix Liam alone when he needed them both to cooperate and therapy. Doesn't make the OP and his wife bad people, its just that they just aren't equipt to deal with Liam it seems as the Kid is depressed because of her divorce.
Something about the way OP writes this makes me think there's more to the story. Also, the fact that *everyone* feels like OP went too far, not just the parents, also makes me wonder.
I remember finding the other end of this from the mother's perspective, and no. She was delusional. Almost alarmingly so, and as she went on in her post, she made it obvious OP was just there tonpau for everything and be the punching bag he thought he was. She was trash and just used him while neglecting her kid. She got blasted so horrendously by reddit that she took down the post days after it went up.
Like I tell every other male do not play stepdad to other man kids why because most of the time it always fails especially when the kid respect his father a lot Also OP is a doormat
I’m sorry she lost her son but this is a prime example of why as a man you should never enter a relationship with a single mom. You will have all the responsibility yet no authority.
"He's a kid, he can't be expected to do chores on top of schoolwork!" WHAT. Should have made him go through more by saying "The ATM is leaving the family."
So… the whole family blamed him for the stepson offing himself, saying they pushed him too far and didn’t understand what was happening to the son, but at the same time refused to tell OP what he was going through to begin with? And on top of that, the stepson was addicted to drugs?
This story feels AI generated. OP keeps reusing the same phrases over and over again, starting a new part of the story with "the tipping point came" or a similar phrase when he already used it in the previous paragraph
OP could never have blended with a rude and ungrateful stepson, who was coddled and when told to have respect, went to drug himself up to the point of death. It could have very well been an accidental overdose. The fact that he had the drugs to do it, shows it wasn’t his first rodeo with substance abuse. And his mother expects her husband to simply be disrespected for years to keep her kid happy. OP should have walked away a long ago and that kid would have still did what he did
I have been researching egyptian gods. I paused this on the first sentence a while ago and came back. I legit thought that sed Mesopotamian instead of "My step son"
Take notes single moms. Stepping up is a thankless task, and stuff like this is why men with self respect don't date women who already have kids. Also the only part of it that was actually Op fault was he didn't put his foot down, especially when he started to realize he was being used.
Its the step dads fault coz he didnt coddle a spoiled brat that his biological parents created? Sorry excuse for parents, hope the step dad moves on & finds a real family that deserves him. Cant even finish listening to it, its that infuriating. The kid was so pandered to he didnt even respect the very people who enabled him & manipulated everyone elde around him so he was as sheltered as possible.
Another chapter in the Why Single Men should stay away from Single Mothers book added thanks to the OP. Someday men will learn. Damn dude was doing the pick me with the kid 😂
Probably poisonous wlrds "daddy" Mark kept whispering in his ear, I see him and not the mom, Jessica, nor the Op as the main culprit of Liam's unistall life.dot
It means that he was being tricked. His real Dad _did_ pretend to care about him, but did so in the "fun" ways that Liam liked. OP actually cared about him far more, but his care was the "not fun" way that actually mattered. If OP had left before Liam's death, he'd find out pretty quickly how much his real dad actually cared about him.
@maxwhite8616 I sincerely doubt OP was abusive to Liam. In fact, it seemed like Liam wasn't afraid of him at all and thought of OP as a nuisance and hindrance. For Liam's father...it's very possible. The father has a lot of narcissistic traits, and a big part of that is making vulnerable people reliant on them by emotionally breaking those people down behind closed doors. At the funeral, the father seemed to be more focused on securing his image as the "good dad" than he was on mourning the loss of his son.
Unpopular opinion: as someone with mental health issues... Liam was a a hole and a coward. He had a man genuinely care for him and had a place in his heart and he threw it all in his face, gave no respect and abused that love. Liams choices were his own and we don't know if it was a intentional overdose or not... But either way he chose to do drugs and chose to be a disrespectful a hole. OP was *NEVER* at fault. Jessica, Mark, carol ect are all responsible for Liam's death... they enabled his attitude, they never disciplined him and allowed him free roam. Liams blood is on there hands. OP gave the guy love, time and respect and didn't get anything back. I genuinely hope OP can find someone who loves him. Because I was in OPs shoes? Mark would get a crack, carol as well, divorce papers for jessica and a public post saying exactly what happened and pointing to the family as the cause of his death. Then walk away and never look back because they weren't worth the love and effort.
Well, at least we know that Liam's substance use didn't have anything to do with his struggles and untimely demise and all of Liam's family was a constant and reliable source safety and trust for him so much so that he didn't feel alone or unsafe.
Single mothers are very rarely a prize especially if they do nothing about they're children being disrespectful, marrying her when all she did was coddle bad behavior was your first mistake should've kept her as a GF until you found better.
It's a sad story but I'm sure OP noticed Liam's negative behavior before he married his mother, he should've never married someone who wasn't willing to be on his team.
AI Checklist.... ✔ "I don't know what the future holds" (used 3x times here... most fake stories use this phrase) ✔ Uses an active tone while writing in the past tense ✔ Uses the phrase "Against the weight of it all" (another common AI phrase people don't often use) ✔ Repetitious Story Segments ✔ Frequently describing the environment around the storyteller when it doesn't further the plot ✔ Excessive use of analogy in describing emotions That is because LLMs are trained on more professionally authored fiction, not actual user posts, so they read more like a novel than someone speaking frankly in a forum. I appreciate that it is a little less obvious, but still not really fooling anyone. Too many tells. Fake stories are fine, but they're hard to get into when they are obvious. A few fixes to the prompts can remedy this. Otherwise, not a bad story.
I get the feeling the Dad is at fault. I think Liam asked to stay and he said no in his sorry because yada yada reason and he worked out that Mark wasn’t as great as he thought and he’d been babied by Mom and stuffed his relationship with Step-Dad the only one trying to be a real parent. It why Mark pushing hard on OP and going to events he shouldn’t be going to.
Wow a whole family of adults failed this kid. Op should have left LONG ago. Not for his sake, not for his wife, but because it is very clear this child didn't want anything to do with him. Worse: He "punished him harder out of resentment". Bro if you're doing that, you are failing hard.I don't think hes being fully honest about how he was with him either. But then theres the wonder parents. His wife didn't every try to help ease liam in to this. No attempt to talk to him. And no support when he did all this stuff. But then theres daddy of the year. Only there half the time, and using his money to help him resent his family. Do not, ever, EVER use your children as pawns in a divorce, or to get back at your wife.
Why is everyone talking like the 17 year old is a vulnerable middle school kid with severe mental health issues? He was a coddled brat who freaked out the second he felt resistance from anybody. If you're so delicate you can't stand the fact your step dad, who is the reason you're so well fed, clothed & can attend a good school, asks you to help out round the house by cleaning up after yourself, then you're too fragile for this world & should be disposed of immediately, especially while your biological dad can only be bothered with you once a month but he's idolised by you. I dont waste time on extending compassion to clear lost causes.
1- how much stricter? 2- "i was working so hard to be a part of this family" kinda feels like a bit of over inserting going on there. 3- probably some rather serious stuff being left out there.
Forgot rubber spine, op doesn't have spine at all. He should have left way before his stepson unalive. Also surprise everyone is blaming op when children's are parents responsibility and not step parents. Anyway the story is fake because no one would go so long in real life.
@@goodnightmyprince6734 so is Carly Gregg who killed her mom, but they still took souls and brought a lot of suffering to their extended families, except in this kid's case, the soul he took was his.
Imagine all the narcissists out there defending OP. He sounds like a narcissistic stepparent that demands to be acknowledged as a parent. He's a grown adult but the world isn't spinning right if his stepson doesn't call him dad or treat him like one. It amazes me how people can just decide how a young kid should think or react to a newcomer that they didn't choose to come into their lives. Respect is something freely given not something you can demand. It sounds like OP was constantly riding the kid, pushing him to grow angrier and more resentful. The mother should have put her child first and left OP ages ago. Stepparents should never think they have any right to discipline a kid that isn't theirs. All it does is create resentment.
OP's little monologue at the end just ticks me off. It's like he's defending his actions and refuses to take accountability for this. OP chose to play dad for another man's kid, forcing that relationship onto Liam and holding his 'sacrifices' over Liam. That kid would probably still be alive if OP just shut his mouth that night or stopped to think about Liam's feelings for once, but its okay: OP's only human right? Also, its fine Jessica probably knew how bad Liam's mental state was but didn't get him therapy for any sort of help because she's only human and its okay for Mark to abandon his parental responsibilities and be the 'fun dad' since he's also only human! (I know its not what OP meant but his logic can apply to Jessica and Mark. My point is all three of them failed this kid and he lost his life because three adults couldn't give him the help and support he needed).
OP’s actions were correct, jessica is the problem due to her guilt of leaving his dad, she excused his behaviour for years and not demanding that she respect the man who is trying to give him a good life. My only problem with OP is he is to soft and didn’t stick up for himself.
@@bryanfevrier7900None of OP's actions were correct. All OP cared about was himself and kept acting like a victim and bringing up all the "sacrifices" he made for Liam. OP was never a parent but a selfish delusional man and now he's paying the price for his actions
@@amyyaku5022 how can you be a parent with resistance from the child’s parent and the child? OP didn’t want to cross boundaries for the sake of jessica, yet she chose to not deal with her son probably out of guilt. OP was to lenient with both jessica and Liam and should have put his foot down is his home. Jessica enable Liam maladaptive behaviours, while Liam tried to be accepted by his dad by rejecting OP. OP’s failing was his own goodness and his insecurities low self esteem coming from not knowing whether he is doing the right thing for everyone, not realising he is failing himself. Oh he made sacrifices for Liam by giving everything to succeed and all he ask for was some recognition.
ETA - Why in the world would the stepson need to call you dad? You’re not his dad, you’re literally just the guy his mom married. You didn’t have to cover him financially, you could have told him to go ask his awesome dad for that since he can’t be respectful. You do realize your wife & her ex were telling him his dad was paying for everything that in actuality you were paying for right? In your place I would have given the problem step kid exactly what he wanted which is nothing. I would have nothing to do with him or his costs but would allow him to live in my home because he’s a minor. Jessica & her ex are mostly at fault because they never got their child professional help for his mental problems. The boy was literally screaming for help with his actions and they did nothing but keep the status quo. What their kid did is on them. I don’t know how you did it because I would have thrown Jessica & her demon spawn out of my house and life because who lives like that? I’d also make sure the narrative was Jessica & her ex not only messed up their kid but refused to get him the mental health help he so desperately needed. All the adults in this story suck and Jessica has been cheating on you with her ex the whole time you’ve been married.
@@nathelTaylor485 yeah all I heard was a story of a delusional man who thought he was going g to walk right into a broken home and play man of the house.
I love how when they all blamed him for not trying to understand Liam even though when he tried to fix the problem the wife literally said “you wouldn’t understand it”
Its easier for them to blame op then to look in the mirror at themselves and admit to the ways they failed him.
So... she thinks her own son's death was OP's fault, but she didn't blame herself that she did not noticing her son was a addict?
Exactly what I said
I think she also blames herself to a degree I think there is no one bad guy here just all round misery thanks to neglect
It's cause she doesn't want to blame the real person responsible, and that's herself. Her enabling led to her sons suicide
There's actually a part in this story where Jessica blames herself
Of course not. Why take responsibility and fix the problem when you can just blame the outsider?
OP stayed with it far longer than he had any reason to. It was incredibly apparent that no one respected him including himself.

This is a lesson. See how badly it happens when you can just walk away from the start instead of playing the stupid game.
Jesus, that story is just infuriating. The OP is pretty much a complete doormat that's unable to defend himself, just staying silent for the whole time. Thank god it's just an AI story.
I had chores since I was 9 I'm 21 n still donthem
Why the hell would your step son call you Dad, especially when his actual dad is in his life. I feel like there's a lot OP is leaving out
Possibly but also its possible that the kid never really respected him as a Step Father either way their is hardly one Victim nor Malicious individual in this story just all around miserable people,
The Step Dad should have left the Child and Mom or had a sit down with them,
The Kid probably has Major Depressive Disorder, likely thanks to the Divorce of his Biological Father and Mother and it remained untreated likely thanks to Neglect,
The Mom likely Neglected the Kid thinking it was "just a Phase" until it was too late,
The Dad is also a Neglectful man only there to give some food to the kid.
He said on the story that he wanted him to call him Step-dad what are you talking about
@@raymondsolomon8935 anything with a parental conitation is still weird when you don't feel that kind of relationship. Step-dad indicates an at least second dad which the stepson may have felt the op was pushing that relationship a bit too soon.
Of course you feel that way. That's the reddit sheep MO. Don't think just blame the guy who obviously did nothing wrong
@@Chaoshadow-SA2 TBF the Step Dad needed to take an Active stance in the situation than just react or try to just keep talking to the kid who clearly at that point has no respect for him thanks to Depression,
Talking to his Wife about it in a deeper capacity would have helped the situation greatly but it seems both OP and his Ex now thought that they can fix Liam alone when he needed them both to cooperate and therapy.
Doesn't make the OP and his wife bad people, its just that they just aren't equipt to deal with Liam it seems as the Kid is depressed because of her divorce.
I don’t understand why everyone is villainizing single moms for existing? lol.
Litrally. Not all single moms are horrible😭
For most guys, it's just a matter of preference.
Literally
OP should have divorced Jessica years ago. He was nothing but an ATM to the family. Get out OP.Z

Sad story of a simp doormat ATM
Like I tell every other male do not play stepdad to other man kids why because most of the time it always fails especially when the kid respect his father a lot
Also OP is a doormat
This script not only tells a great story but also carries meaningful messages that make the audience reflect. 📝💭
I’m sorry she lost her son but this is a prime example of why as a man you should never enter a relationship with a single mom. You will have all the responsibility yet no authority.
Then you simply reject the responsibilities. You can't get a coin without two sides.
@ nah I’d reject the woman. Plenty of childless girls out there.
@@C.G.Gaster Just imagine what the single mother would do if you do that. You would lose your whole purpose or being a nice and obedient ATM.
@@MdMzzz right. I’d rather just not get my self into a situation like that. Plenty of women with no kids out there
What about single father's
"He's a kid, he can't be expected to do chores on top of schoolwork!" WHAT. Should have made him go through more by saying "The ATM is leaving the family."
So… the whole family blamed him for the stepson offing himself, saying they pushed him too far and didn’t understand what was happening to the son, but at the same time refused to tell OP what he was going through to begin with? And on top of that, the stepson was addicted to drugs?
OP didnt do anything wrong. He should divorce her and sue for all the money he spent on them.
This story feels AI generated. OP keeps reusing the same phrases over and over again, starting a new part of the story with "the tipping point came" or a similar phrase when he already used it in the previous paragraph
Maybe that or the original story was 1/4th of the length of this one and they just asked AI to lengthen it with useless filler.

There is a interesting comment by Liam that I want to address. He said at least his dad doesn't pretend to care about him. What does he mean by that?
Probably poisonous wlrds "daddy" Mark kept whispering in his ear, I see him and not the mom, Jessica, nor the Op as the main culprit of Liam's unistall life.dot
It means that he was being tricked. His real Dad _did_ pretend to care about him, but did so in the "fun" ways that Liam liked.
OP actually cared about him far more, but his care was the "not fun" way that actually mattered. If OP had left before Liam's death, he'd find out pretty quickly how much his real dad actually cared about him.
@@misterb3577 I wonder if he was also abusive
@@CRSB00 well obviously as how else did he get the drugs
I wish this man find a single woman not a mother and finally to have a real family.
That's manipulation stringing a single mum along until a man found someone else
It's a sad story but I'm sure OP noticed Liam's negative behavior before he married his mother, he should've never married someone who wasn't willing to be on his team.
Let's be real here: Mark is the reason Liam was an addict.
And this is just another reminder why you never get involved with a single mom.
Or dad

AI Checklist....
✔ "I don't know what the future holds" (used 3x times here... most fake stories use this phrase)
✔ Uses an active tone while writing in the past tense
✔ Uses the phrase "Against the weight of it all" (another common AI phrase people don't often use)
✔ Repetitious Story Segments
✔ Frequently describing the environment around the storyteller when it doesn't further the plot
✔ Excessive use of analogy in describing emotions
That is because LLMs are trained on more professionally authored fiction, not actual user posts, so they read more like a novel than someone speaking frankly in a forum.
I appreciate that it is a little less obvious, but still not really fooling anyone. Too many tells. Fake stories are fine, but they're hard to get into when they are obvious. A few fixes to the prompts can remedy this. Otherwise, not a bad story.
The fact that it's just a story without any comments is a sign enough this is written by AI or at least put through Chat GPT to embellish it.
Nta op son was an addict he made his choice unfortunately he didn't get help he died not your fault
Death is not a good feeling but op tried to becomea a father figure for the. Kid
This is just….. horrible…. RIP Liam….
Liam was done dirty by his entire family and they kept OP from helping him.
Single mothers: Not even once.
with kids the 'no' wins. and never ever get involved with a childed person. so many times it doesn't work out for whatever reason.
one of the reasons I never ever wanted kid. who needs this kind of garbage.
Exactly 😂
OP is an ah. he wanted to get into someone's family and become a knight on a white horse. it definitely wasn't as it appears as he projeckts
Yeah I doubt that. Don't be a reddit sheep think for yourself.
Is the ah for bing a doormat
A rule I follow for relationships do not get involved with someone who has children, from my experience its too much unwanted drama.
You married a single mom. Enough said
1- how much stricter?
2- "i was working so hard to be a part of this family" kinda feels like a bit of over inserting going on there.
3- probably some rather serious stuff being left out there.
Liam was the problem.
Forgot rubber spine, op doesn't have spine at all. He should have left way before his stepson unalive.
Also surprise everyone is blaming op when children's are parents responsibility and not step parents.
Anyway the story is fake because no one would go so long in real life.
Everyone sucks in this story. Including the kid
The kid was mentally ill
@@goodnightmyprince6734 so is Carly Gregg who killed her mom, but they still took souls and brought a lot of suffering to their extended families, except in this kid's case, the soul he took was his.
What did she did to help her son tho
Is discipline asking someone to put out the garbage. Oh no Im a narcissist!

@@leegraves8878 he married someone with a kid . Expecting someone who is not your kid to call you dad is ridiculous .
