- In this episode, I talk about the role of harmony in shaping emotions. I approach this from two perspectives, western and carnatic respectively. As regards western music, the example of the iconic composition by Maestro Illayaraja, the 3 note melody, where he has use chromatic harmony. Further, a small demo composition using the same 3 notes is presented to showcase the power of harmony in enhancing a very simple, uninteresting melody. Chromatic walkdown is demonstrated as well.
The second example taken in Passacaglia in C minor by Bach. Ostinato / Grounding bass is demonstrated in this case.
For the carnatic perspective, a composition of mine "malare" is explained.
