KaptinSir its because when he sings he uses his gut or also known as his false vocals, that's why there is that big of a difference. He doesn't sing with his regular vocals.
Oliver Easton something tells me he didnt really fancy the woman interviewing him, she went pretty flat on his joke he made starting the interview, every person does this when youre obligated talking to persons you dont like, no eye contact

I know most of the you have realized that this interview does not have 10 questions because it was shortened. This is the transcript for the full interview: Rebecca: Why did "Green Day" decide to do a "Rock Band" game? Billie Joe: It was a new way of getting our music out there. Formats are constantly changing, and there are really no rules for the way you put your records out anymore. There are also so many people who are gamers. I am not, but I have played the drums [in "Rock Band"], and I am terrible. Rebecca: How do you respond to people saying that "Green Day" is not punk anymore? Have you changed your style in response to naysayers? Billie Joe: Our main goal is to write great songs, and that comes before genre. The thing about punk is that in any genre of music whether if it is punk, or blues, or jazz, or straight up rock and roll, there is purist on every side. So once you start getting outside of that, then they do not think what you are necessarily doing is quote on quote Punk rock. But for me, I want to be a great songwriter. So my range of songwriters, my favorites, goes anywhere from a band like the "Sex Pistols" all the way to Lennon-McCartney. That is what "Green Day" is. There are no rules. Rebecca: What do you think about the current state of punk rock? Billie Joe: There are always young bands playing in their garages. A lot of punk rock is not going to be in the mainstream. It is below the radar. The beauty of it is that you are not supposed to always know. It is subterranean. Rebecca: What makes you want to have a Broadway musical adaptation of "American Idiot"? Billie Joe: When we were first doing "American Idiot" and while we were making it, we always thought it was something very theatrical and it had a storyline to it. So we always thought it should be staged somehow whether it would be in the theater or would it be in something else. We really did not know how it was going to come up. So when Michael Mayer did a musical called "Spring Awakening", when he called, we took that call immediately. Rebecca: What is it like to be seeing your songs on stage? Billie Joe: It has been surreal. It has been amazing to hear the different voices, especially women to sing your songs. I did not really know that women can sound really that good singing your songs. They are even better than the way I sing them. So it was just great to see the story that you had in your head that was in the record for a minute and then suddenly it is on stage acted right in front of you and it was kind of like seeing the whole thing coming from fruition. It is like “This is what we have started with which was the album and now there is a stage production with the storyline” and it is pretty amazing. Rebecca: How did your band get its name? Billie Joe: I wrote a song called "Green Day" because I was smoking a lot of dope. Our drummer put "Green Day" on his jacket and said, "Maybe we should call the band that." And I said, "That is a good idea." We used to be called "Sweet Children". Rebecca: How do you create a setlist for live shows? Billie Joe: Setlists are tough because you come up with this structure of how the songs are going to go from one to the next, but at the same time, you have to be spontaneous and take requests and change the setlist at the drop of a hat. Rebecca: A while ago, in "Behind the Music" on "MTV", you said you regretted signing to a major record label. What do you think now? Billie Joe: I have no regrets at all. I did not know what head space I was in [when I said that]. Back then, I had a lot of time to reflect on my life and career. But no, I do not regret signing to a major. It was the right thing to do, and we have had no problems. Rebecca: Do you think that musicians have a responsibility to try to have a social or political message in their music? Billie Joe: I think that the only people that should have responsibility for singing about social issues or politics or anything like that are the ones that are not full of shit about it or the ones that are not preaching. If you are going to write a political song, it has got to come from the same place that you would write a love song. It cannot be some empty rhetoric where you are involved in a bunch of finger-pointing. You have to have yourself involved in it. So when it is like I have that song that says “Don’t want to be an American Idiot”, I am talking about myself and what is going on in my country at the same time and how I fit into it and how I feel alienated from it at the same time. So, it is self-deprecating, but it is also trying to empower yourself. Rebecca: What bands have influenced you? Billie Joe: When I first started getting into music that mattered for me, I would say that a lot of Minneapolis bands like "Hüsker Dü" and "The Replacements". Then after that, "The Ramones" and then the local punk rock scene that we came from in Berkeley which was bands like "Operation Ivy" and "Crimpshrine" and this great record compilation called "Turn It Around" which was like the first sort of wave of the "Gilman Street" punk band that was coming out of there. So, that was a pretty big record for me. Rebecca: Why do you never seem to age? Billie Joe: (Laughs) Age? Oh, I age. I definitely age every single day as this time goes on, I am aging. As soon as it is there, it would be in the past. So, I think trying to mentally keep yourself in a place where you still have excitement in your life and you are always in awe and you always have that thing about you of where you are dreaming the next dream and never resting on your laurels and not going through emotions and that is to me, that is the Fountain of Youth. I mean, it has nothing to do with the wrinkles on your face or how fat you get or if you get gray hair. It is just your zest for life.
When he was saying about how all his songs show his emotions and they come from his heart, I was thinking where the hell did he get Kill The DJ from? Does he just hate DJs with a passion?!! 😂😂
I have so much respect for him. And not just him, all the members of Green Day. They are the reason that I started playing guitar and I am so passionate about music. Before I heard of them I didn't realize how beautiful music was. Thank you Green Day
Having seen them in 1993/1994 as a buncha amazingly talented unknown hard partying punks, it’s great to see he’s so solid, super smart, seems like a nice guy.
I'm not concerned with whether or not Green Day is still purely "punk". All I care about is the music and if it speaks to me or not, and Green Day consistently keeps me listening :) They've been around before I was even born. I'm 21 now and just saw them in concert a few nights ago and it was incredible.
I've always thought about Green Day as a mix of Sex Pistols and The Beatles. Anyone who have listened a lot of Pistols and Beatles can recognize influence of both in Green Day's songs. In this video Billie Joe confirmed that. Green Day are the best join of The Beatles and Sex Pistols in their unique way and I just love them.
Rick hickd There's no accounting for taste. But you should behave yourself and at least be polite when you talk to other people. If insulting is the only thing you're capable of, I feel sorry for you.
+Rick hickd I didn't say they are. I'm just saying - behave yourself. Who do you thin you are to talk to others like you did? An in my initial comment I said that Green Day sounds like a mixture of Sex Pistols and The Beatles to me. You can disagree, but that doesn't give you the right to be insolent.
I have been listening to green day and watching their live dvds for years and i completly forgot that Billie would have an american accent.. . can't hear it at all in the songs
It's September 2019 and I am only experiencing Green Day for the first time as back in the day I graphed in with bands such as The Who, Mr. Springsteen, Ray Charles, U2, Elvis and many of the band's that made it to Cleveland. Music died for me a few years back and their 'raw punk' audio adrenaline, symbolic facade and lyrical discourse have ignited and resurrect my hearts passion for music. Perplexing to revisit my personal playlist and re-evaluate and reorganize this history. Their contributions will be passed on with importance.
Every day being in awe of something. Right on! I'm the same age as Billy Joe. I was a punk in Minnesota listening to the Replacements as a teen. I think punks are punks because of being in awe of things. We let ourselves feel. We get into the minutia of things and let ourselves be amused and fascinated.
I love people who are completely honest like this. You can just tell that there's no bs in what he's saying. That's also why I respect a lot of the so- called "emo" bands as well. They're just honest and they say it how they believe it.
They might have been a punk band since Insomniac, but you gotta admit, they're still a great rock band and they still kept that punk attitude for a good, long time in their career, so that in itself is something to be impressed by. Cause if there's anything the media doesn't like, it's anything having to do with true punk at heart.
No. But Billie did seem uncomfortable around her. I noticed he didnt look her in the eyes while speaking and when he joked around in the beginning he turned his attention to the dudes in the back.
The thing is that the reporter was expecting to talk to a full man who would turn her on a bit, but he actually is bisexual so she ends up disappointed about that.
Holy shit! The 2 questions from the US are from Kentucky? I think that's a sign that Green Day needs to come back to Louisville! Especially considering the fact that they've only been here one other time, during the American Idiot Tour.
It always amazes me how big of a change there is between his talking voice and his singing voice...
That is what i think everytime
KaptinSir I know right.
KaptinSir its because when he sings he uses his gut or also known as his false vocals, that's why there is that big of a difference. He doesn't sing with his regular vocals.
Taylor Tripp check out "stay the night acoustic" , it's closer to his talking voice.
His talking voice reminds me a bit of Gerard Way’s talking voice
Billie Joe is immortal.

I'm in love with him lol
"If you're gonna write a political song, it has to come from the same place as where you'd write a love song" I love this
I love Billie Joe Armstrong!!! You rock!!!😘😝😎
He has such a soothing voice
I love people who are completely honest like this. You can just tell that there's no bs in what he's saying. That's also why I respect a lot of the so- called "emo" bands as well. They're just honest and they say it how they believe it.
4:56 the best and cutest laugh ever❤and the best question too
“Why do you ever seem to age?”
*Nervously laughs*
does he ever make eyecontact with the woman?
Trust me, doing interviews while making eyecontact it's really hard for some people.
Me included.
He's precious
They might have been a punk band since Insomniac, but you gotta admit, they're still a great rock band and they still kept that punk attitude for a good, long time in their career, so that in itself is something to be impressed by. Cause if there's anything the media doesn't like, it's anything having to do with true punk at heart.
That laugh at 4:57 tho 💙
Ya know I just ya know and Ya Know it's really ya know so ya know like ya know ?
This damn reporter acts like she is too good to interview Billie or something...
No. But Billie did seem uncomfortable around her. I noticed he didnt look her in the eyes while speaking and when he joked around in the beginning he turned his attention to the dudes in the back.
Billie's too good to get interviewed by her
He may have social anxiety. Just because he's famous doesn't mean he's great at interviews or talking to people in general
Yeah she is like "ok i am here...let's do this quickly"
The thing is that the reporter was expecting to talk to a full man who would turn her on a bit, but he actually is bisexual so she ends up disappointed about that.
I love how he's always saying *yknow*
hes such a perfect person
I don't like the band/the music they make, youtube just kinda brought me here and I have to say as a person he seems pretty great and authentic
Him and his band are fabulous
+Green_Day LIFE yes
Holy shit! The 2 questions from the US are from Kentucky? I think that's a sign that Green Day needs to come back to Louisville! Especially considering the fact that they've only been here one other time, during the American Idiot Tour.
Holly cow he sounds completely different from when he sings
Minneapolis is my home town! We always got love for GREEN DAY!
Man u should see how Billie Looks like in 2020 he looks like a American Dad trucker
Never realized how much he sounded like Gerard Way but with a different accent
Why is he like so bae ya know
billie is so sweet
His answers are so straight up it’s amazing
this sucks...there are just 5 questions not 10
But 21 guns is from the album 21st Century breakdown?
yeah, it is why?
I love how he connected ageing to mature and like mentally ageing than actual physical ageing 🤣
"Ya know" he's so cute I love him😂😂💓
he sits like a little kid who was forced to apologize for being rude at the dinner table. I love him!
he’s so gorgeous omd.
The lady looked like she had a crush on Billie Joe
