You cannot compare them because back in time the suplements were not so advanced compared with the acttual ones. Arnold was all about pure strenght, great simetry even though he did not had a six pack or the fact that he had a smaller bicep from his right hand. He is a legend. In my opinion in classic bodybuilding he had the best body, great pose and very low fat percentage.
@@andreimitrofan7124 I guess we’re just going to have to take this guys word what Arnold supposedly lifted…and yes Arnold was jacked up on roids since he was 17.
Blows my mind how large and full Arnold looked at such a light weight for his height. His chest/waist comparison still has to be the best ever in bodybuilding.
It's mostly due because he was on a different era and thus drugs cycle. Right now they have much more muscles in their legs, arms shoulders and back, wich makes the chest looks much smaller + makes you much heavier for similar chest results. Plus Arnolds chest was insane in itself, but the proportions nowadays have changed, back then their were in V shape, now they are in X shape
You can't help but be impressed by Arnold. Most of his lifts were done without wrist straps, belt, knee wraps, etc. Hell, he used to squat barefoot. They were certainly built of different stuff back then.
Considering that Arnold had much less acess to modern drugs, training knowlegede, nutrition knowledge, and that he still looks very good next to Chris 30+ years later. Its amazing!
This is purely speculation on my part, but Ive always suspected that had Arnold chose to continue to train purely for strength, he had the right sort of genetic make up to go considerably further than he did. Despite being a similar height and weight to Chris, Arnold just looks more fuller with denser muscle mass. His neck, jawline hands and wrists, indicate to me that he could of handled a lot more body mass, and corresponding heavier weights. When you see pictures of him around 73/74 he was a beast, and still very young.
His upper body does look fuller, but his legs in comparison to cbum's are not that great and look to have a considerable less mass. Beeing the same weight, his less massive legs enabled him to build up more muscle in his upper body, wich is why I think he appears bigger
The reason he appeared bigger was because bobdybuilders then would come on stage at about 8-9% bf compared to 5% nowadays and with that little fat percentage your muscles will lack any carb storage which is they main reason for that , also Arnold’s legs were tiny compared to everyone on stage nowadays let alon cbums
@@leovulinovic914 I still think that Arnold is genetically the bigger guy. If they were competing in the same era, at the same age, my guess is that Arnold would likely be bigger and stronger than Chris. But in terms of aesthetic look, that's far more subjective.

I do train my forearms directly though with weights and it's one of my strong points.
Arnold's deadlift is way more legit and stronger imo. Straps do make a difference. More weight and raw is way more impressive than less weight for 2 more reps with straps
All of the lifts from Chris are in the gym. He has video of everything. It was different in the 60s and 70s. Arnold was stronger. But that’s doesn’t mean Chris is weak by any stretch. Both are great and will go down as legends. Arnold already has.
All the vids of Chris arent PR's though, they're just working sets where it's clear he's calling it quits before actual form breakdown. I wouldn't say this is as representative of his actual strength as Ronnie's training footage is
This is why strength is so important in bodybuilding. You have to be extremely careful though. Only lift heavy when you feel strong and well-rested. When your joints are sore, cut your workout short. If you push past the pain to always lift heavy, you're going to one day be stuck on machines and light weights forever due to irreparable injuries. Train heavy, but train smart

Serious question: How can they "only" bench around 200 kg? In my gym I have seen people bench around 180 kg and they are not even half the size of Arnold or Cbum
Arnold is 6 feet 1.5 inches tall (1.86-1.87m). At least he was in his bodybuiding prime. The referees measured him as much. His listed 6'2'' by wiki for convenience. But yet again being only 107-108 kg in contest is pretty much lightweight for his sport/height comparison.
In the very last picture (@4:49), with Chris and Arnold side-by-side, Chris's head looks like a banker's head photoshopped/pasted onto a body builder's physique. Arnold's head, by contrast, doesn't look aesthetically dissociated from his body. His facial aesthetic fits his physique. This unity and integration twixt face and body is not a small part of what made Arnold more aesthetically pleasing and successful than his competitors.
If I am not wrong Arnold was something like 18 or 19 in 1968 before his first bodybuilding show and he won all those powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting competition in teens it means he had greatest Base foundation of strength and that's the reason he responded to steroids so well at age 20 if you even wanna be best version of natural of your self focused on strength early days rather than muscles.
The difference in time is huge. The difference in knowledge of anabolic steroids is dramatic, let alone knowledge about training methods and nutrition. But the point is well made that Chris isn't really going for strength.
Chris's era also has alot more variety of steroids at hand to attain his physique. Alot of guys from Arnold's era only speak of Dbol and some said test aswell. Even without that id say Arnold with still a great respect going to Chris.
Chris' physique is incredible but Arnold's slightly outshines it in almost every way. They look so similar but something about Arnold's physique is just unmatched.
arnold has worse back traps shoulder legs and calves he also has worse forearms and wasnt as lean how does arnold outshine is any way he just has a better chest and biceps

I don't think you can truly compare. Arnie grew up tough. He grew up hard. Chris was a party animal before the gym... Both legends in their own right
I did not know Chris was that strong
In the very last picture (@4:49), with Chris and Arnold side-by-side, Chris's head looks like a banker's head photoshopped/pasted onto a body builder's physique. Arnold's head, by contrast, doesn't look aesthetically dissociated from his body. His facial aesthetic fits his physique. This unity and integration twixt face and body is not a small part of what made Arnold more aesthetically pleasing and successful than his competitors.
both my parents competed nationally but i dident think he was this close to arnolds max bench, my dads personal best is 220. Wow
3:57 wow.. those biceps 💪 really big
how are their bench and squat basically the same weight?
Only Arnold can be Arnold
If I am not wrong Arnold was something like 18 or 19 in 1968 before his first bodybuilding show and he won all those powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting competition in teens it means he had greatest Base foundation of strength and that's the reason he responded to steroids so well at age 20 if you even wanna be best version of natural of your self focused on strength early days rather than muscles.
Arnold started to took steroids at 15
@@gustavobarrientos999o2 wtf he started training at 15 not steroids he took steroids at 19
Arnold is...every ways that no one gone by ever...the best ...
Upper body-arnold
Lowerhalf -cbun
The difference in time is huge. The difference in knowledge of anabolic steroids is dramatic, let alone knowledge about training methods and nutrition. But the point is well made that Chris isn't really going for strength.
I saw a video of Jay Cutler incline pressing 405 lbs 12 times. When he racked it I believe he still had a rep or two in him.
That wasn't 405, it was 331lbs (150kg).
It is 6 x 15kg (33lb) plates x 2 x 20kg (44.5lbs) plates plus the bar
Chris's era also has alot more variety of steroids at hand to attain his physique. Alot of guys from Arnold's era only speak of Dbol and some said test aswell. Even without that id say Arnold with still a great respect going to Chris.
What’s Arnold’s bent over row
Great video and I think they are pretty close. For the era Arnold was in. I'd have to give it to him. But barely
Thanks Doug, I agree, taking era's into account it goes to Arnold
AS is in the guiness book of world records for symmetry.
In my opinion Arnold is the best forever
Would love to be this strong.
Do a lot of body builders bench press?
Arnold was the greatest of his competition days and he looks fuller than chris
Arnold is my favourite of all time but in saying his muscles were "fuller than Chris", remember that guys in the golden era didn't have the same level of conditioning
Also the reason was because they used dbol as their main compound and they didnt use injectibel drugs
@@kryptonianstrength8461 lol they definitely used injectable drugs.
