I'm a Scot living in Turkiye (sadly not for much longer) and I fell in love with Şebnem Ferah's music, her voice, her use of language (she's a big reason why I'm learning Turkish), her stage presence and performance. If I had only one chance to travel in time, I'd go to that concert in İstanbul - it is legendary. She stopped performing live because of COVID but I hear she will return to the stage. When she does, I'll come back to Türkiye...
I was there. No cellphones, no instagram. Şebnem in her purest form. The orchestra. We immediately realised we were going to have a historic night the moment she came on stage. Couldn’t sleep that night. It was so exciting.

LOL I am Turkish and her fan since my childhood, I am 29 now. Sometimes facing your anger and sadness is better then meditation. You can’t relax and “burry” your feelings before you express your anger fully. You don’t have to try to relax if you are angry for something. After singing and screeming with her for an hour, I feel fully healed. Her lyrics are so beautiful and most of her songs are protesting, against something wrong in society, something we are not okay with it. For example this song is about a man (or men in general) who think that they own their girlfriends in a relationships. When men have sex with their girlfriends, they think that they have control over their girlfriends’ lifes and these relationships become toxic after all. She states her anger about this type of men and says “You might turn on the volume while I am singing my song if you want, you might turn off and ignore this song as well (like the other songs that I wrote for you) who knows, maybe you smile or cry but you can’t turn off the voices in my heart.” So she has a clear opinion about them and she is telling it directly even if they don’t listen to her. This is the chorus that audience sings with her. So it really helps you in a good way if you have a this kind of toxic relationship. She is the real rock queen 👸

That concert was the best concert in Turkey. Sebnem Ferah is today 48 years old and still one of the best rock singers of Turkey, still performs with lots of concerts. Any song from her concerts are always explosive and high performance. She’s such a queen. I’d recommend Sebnem Ferah-Delgeç or Vazgeçtim Dünyadan or Çakıl Taşları or İyi-Kötü from the same concert for higher notes and harder sounds!

She wrote „deli kızım uyan” (wake up crazy girl) in the hospital for her. Her the Song „artik kisa cümleler kuruyorum“ of her melancholic album (1999) telling about these hard last years, and what changed in her life. In one sentence she wrote „My heart hurted 2 years ago“
I wasn't in that concert, but I had a chance to listen to her live performance, and I gotta say, she is definitely one of a kind. I was 20 when I went to her concert, and I'm 34 now, and that concert is still one of my best experiences. She is a legend for our generation. Thanks for your sincere reaction :)
I’m so damn proud that was my bday present from the sound tech and organisation team. it was such an honour and I was really really lucky that she was ok with the date. I spend all my luck in there I suppose but totally worth it. I would never ever ever forget that day. it was beyond amazing. guess I’ll never experience anything like that again (working in this business, been n seen a lot of concerts) it felt out of this planet. she is so damn unique and magical and amazing and all those beautiful words we can add. hope you ll have the chance to watch her live 🙏🏻

Almost every Turkish young person had gone to one of her concerts. She is literally one of the best Turkish voices ❤ i would recommend her song "Sil Baştan" its one of the songs that many people over the years tried to sing and undoubtedly failed. She is one of a kind

Okay I'm gonna give you the full juicy story, because it makes this song extra powerful, you should listen it again after reading this. To me, Kelimeler Yetse (If Words Were Enough) (2003) is one the best Turkish Rock albums of all time. If I remember correctly, this song (Ben Şarkımı Söylerken - While I'm Singing My Song) was the debut single of the album. The whole album is very personal for Şebnem Ferah and probably dedicated to one person (more one that later). By that time, she already had one rough life. While her first solo album Kadın (Woman) was released back in 1996, her older sister was in a coma. She passed away in 1998. Şebnem dedicated her second album Artık Kısa Cümleler Kuruyorum (Now I Only Speak in Short Sentences) (1999) to her. Later that year, she also lost her father in Yalova Earthquake. I wouldn't wish such stuff even for my enemies. Nevertheless, she later had a relationship with the general director of her record label, and things were looking rather good for her after all. Though that didn't last for long. She learned from TV that her new boyfriend was having an affair with another pop singer from the same record label. I believe she never really admitted whom the album "Kelimeler Yetse" was written for, but it seems pretty clear at this point. All the songs are about disappointment, frustration, betrayal and so on. Here are the translated lyrics for Ben Şarkımı Söylerken: While I'm Singing My Song There is a fire burning inside me, my body feels narrow to me Either come to my fire with stoke or with water, I don't really care Talk all you want to me, lie all you want You can't silence the voices inside me that make me myself Did you thought that little slippery hole you crawled inside was a new and big world? I watched one of şebnem ferah's concerts in 2015 from the front. The windows of houses and cars from meters away were shaking when she screamed. It was an incredible performance.

For example this song is about a man (or men in general) who think that they own their girlfriends in a relationships. When men have sex with their girlfriends, they think that they have control over their girlfriends’ lifes and these relationships become toxic after all. She states her anger about this type of men and says “You might turn on the volume while I am singing my song if you want, you might turn off and ignore this song as well (like the other songs that I wrote for you) who knows, maybe you smile or cry but you can’t turn off the voices in my heart.” So she has a clear opinion about them and she is telling it directly even if they don’t listen to her. This is the chorus that audience sings with her.

That concert was the best concert in Turkey. Sebnem Ferah is today 48 years old and still one of the best rock singers of Turkey, still performs with lots of concerts. Any song from her concerts are always explosive and high performance. She’s such a queen. I’d recommend Sebnem Ferah-Delgeç or Vazgeçtim Dünyadan or Çakıl Taşları or İyi-Kötü from the same concert for higher notes and harder sounds!

I spend all my luck in there I suppose but totally worth it. I would never ever ever forget that day. it was beyond amazing. guess I’ll never experience anything like that again (working in this business, been n seen a lot of concerts) it felt out of this planet. she is so damn unique and magical and amazing and all those beautiful words we can add. hope you ll have the chance to watch her live 🙏🏻

Okay I'm gonna give you the full juicy story, because it makes this song extra powerful, you should listen it again after reading this.
To me, Kelimeler Yetse (If Words Were Enough) (2003) is one the best Turkish Rock albums of all time. If I remember correctly, this song (Ben Şarkımı Söylerken - While I'm Singing My Song) was the debut single of the album. The whole album is very personal for Şebnem Ferah and probably dedicated to one person (more one that later).
By that time, she already had one rough life. While her first solo album Kadın (Woman) was released back in 1996, her older sister was in a coma. She passed away in 1998. Şebnem dedicated her second album Artık Kısa Cümleler Kuruyorum (Now I Only Speak in Short Sentences) (1999) to her. Later that year, she also lost her father in Yalova Earthquake. I wouldn't wish such stuff even for my enemies. Nevertheless, she later had a relationship with the general director of her record label, and things were looking rather good for her after all. Though that didn't last for long. She learned from TV that her new boyfriend was having an affair with another pop singer from the same record label. I believe she never really admitted whom the album "Kelimeler Yetse" was written for, but it seems pretty clear at this point. All the songs are about disappointment, frustration, betrayal and so on.
